My Birthday
Born 2006, F, from Coppell, Texas, United States"Maria! Wake up!" my annoying little sister, Liana shouted into my ear.
"Go away." I said putting my pillow over my head. I took a peek at my clock it was already 8:00 but I felt like I could sleep five more hours because I was so tired from last nights party. "Come on, today's your birthday." Liana said. Just then Liana said " I think I smell pancakes." That trick always got me out of bed no matter how hard I tried to stay in bed. She practically pulled me to the bathroom to take a shower. At first I refused but then I found out that it would be useless to fight, Liana would always win. I went inside the bathroom and closed the door and if I had to say so myself the shower felt pretty good. I knew I had to hurry because Liana was banging on the door like a maniac. I got dressed in the nick of time, just when Liana was about to explode. Me and Liana walked to the dining room to eat. There weren't pancakes ( which is my favorite breakfast) there were waffles. Waffles aren't pancakes but they are still delicious. "Hey Maria!" my brother, Tyler shouted from the kitchen probably eating cookies. The second I finished my breakfast Liana dragged me to the basement for the party decorations. "First we need balloons. Red ones."
"What!" I screeched. "I want blue ones!"
"Red ones!" Liana shouted.
"Blue!" I said.
"Red!" Liana said.
"Blue!" I said.
"Hey, why don't we have purple. We both like purple." I said.
"Fine." Liana grumped. I pulled out the purple party balloons and let Liana blow them up. I knew it would take forever for her to blow them up so I decided to sneak away from her and call Victoria. I went upstairs and called Victoria hoping she was home."Hi Vicki! Can I come over?" I asked.
"Um, Not now." Victoria said.
"How about-"
"Bye!" she said cutting me off.
I went back to my sister who was still blowing up the balloons. "Can-you-help-me?" she asked between blows. I smiled trying not to laugh. I really wanted to watch Liana blow up the balloons all day but I helped her anyway. With my help we filled up all thirty of the balloons in under one hour. Next came the streamers. I really wished that my family would give me a surprise birthday party but my family technically doesn't know what a surprise party is! Me and my sister decided that all my party decorations should be purple since the balloons were already purple. We didn't have any purple streamers. Liana decided to go to the Patrica's Party Decorations store with Tyler (who is 18 and knows how to drive).
I decided to help my mom, Elizabeth Tessa Breon, with one of her stories since she is a writer. When I arrived at her home office I was surprised she wasn't there. I looked all over the house for but couldn't find her. Finally, I returned back to her office and started to look around. Then something caught my eye. My moms notebook was open and inside it was a note that said: 'Meet me at Patricia's Party Decorations with others. Liana should be there already. Meet you there.' I was confused. Why did mom mention Liana in the note? I went back to the basement. There was a stack of boxes piled on top of each other. I pushed back the boxes revealing a hiding place that no one but Liana goes to. There was a box full of purple streamers. I was puzzled. Liana should have known that the purple streamers were behind the boxes. I was more confused than ever. I turned around and saw that the purple balloons were gone. I was getting suspicious. I went to the living room and saw my dad watching TV. "Dad?" I asked. "Can you drive me to Patricia's Party Decorations?" My dad jumped up like he has been waiting for me all day. I was surprised that he didn't ask why I wanted to go to Patricia's Party Decorations. "Sure." he said. Me and my dad went inside the car. Me and my dad were driving for quite a while when I looked out the window and saw a very unfamiliar town. "Dad, are you sure we are going the right direction?"
"Trust me Maria, we are definitely going the right way." dad said. Finally dad pulled up into the parking lot. "I have a surprise for you." he said. Dad covered my eyes with his hands and led me to my surprise.
At last he said "You can open your eyes." I opened them. I gasped. I was standing in the beach. A big banner was up saying "Happy Birthday Maria!" Mom, Dad, Liana and Tyler were there, so were my friends Victoria, Gloria, Lucy, Vanessa and Kathryn. There were purple balloons and streamers. The party was a HUGE success! I got the answer to my question. Mom said "I put the notes on my office table so you would know where you had to go for your surprise birthday party."
"How did you you know I would come to your office?" I asked.
"Mothers know everything." she said.
