The Orphan
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesSattoe Kiver stood on the dock eagerly waiting the arrival of the SS Kiver. When the ship docked, the crates were unloaded, Sattoe took a crowbar and opened the crate which was suppose to contain a crystal, but it was empty. “Where is the Lightning Crystal?” shouted Sattoe. The Captain shrugged his shoulder. Sattoe started opening every crate that had been unloaded but none of them contained the Lightning Crystal. Sattoe asked the Captain again what happened to the Lightning Crystal. “I don’t know, it must have got lost in shipping,” said the captain. “Unacceptable! I don’t know how father manages to find so many incompetent idiots!” exclaimed Sattoe storming off.
Dan Karnosh and his group of thieves were in their hideout on Pirate Island Celebrating. They had stolen the Lightning Crystal before it had been loaded onto the SS Kiver. “With this crystal I will be able to destroy the world!” exclaimed Dan as the other thieves cheered.
Kid, a hungry young orphan boy was fishing just off the coast of Pirate Island. “Man, no fish,” said Kid. He heard Dan and the thieves celebrating. “Sounds like someone is having a party,” said Kid who decided to go and investigate. He rowed to Pirate Island and snuck into Dan Karnosh hide out.
Dan was holding up the crystal and making a speech when Kid entered the hideout. “ Wow! Look at that crystal. If I had that crystal I could sell it and buy food with it,” said Kid. He decided to take the crystal from Dan. He went up to the makeshift podium where Dan was speaking. “For me, oh, you shouldn’t have,”said Kid grabbing the crystal and running. “Stop that boy!” shouted Dan.
Kid got in one one of Dan’s speed boats. He could not find a key, so he hotwired the ignition to start the speed boat. Dan and his crew got in another speed boat and started following Kid trying to catch him.
The sound of the speed boats disturbed Deeva who was laying on the beach sun bathing. “What is going on?” asked Deeva to herself as she watched one of the speed boats crash onto beach and Kid running. She reached in her picnic basket and took out a deck of cards. “I don’t know what is going on but I am fixing to put an end to it,” said Deeva.
Kid fell to the ground exhausted from running. “I have you now,” said Dan approaching Kid. Deeva stepped in front of kid to protect him. “Leave the boy alone Karnosh,” said Deeva. “That boy stole something from me and I want it back. We can do it the easy way or we can do it the hard way,” said Dan. “Don’t threaten me Karnosh!” said Deeva. “And just what are you going to do?” asked Dan. Deeva drew a card from her deck. “This,” said Deeva holding the card where Dan could see the front. “I summon Blue Eye Dragon,” continued Deeva. A dragon with blue eyes appeared in front of Deeva. “This is for disturbing me and bothering that boy. Blue Eyes Dragon Attack!” shouted Deeva. Dan and the thieves turned around and started running as the dragon blew fire. When they were out of sight Deeva snapped her finger and the dragon transformed back into a card.
“What does those hoodlums want with you?” asked Deeva as she helped Kid up. “They want this, but it is mine. I am going to sell it for food,” said Kid showing Deeva the Lightning Crystal. “Food?” asked Deeva with a surprise look on her face. “Yes, I have not had much to eat in several days,” said Kid. “Where are your parents?” asked Deeva. “I don’t have any parents, I used to live at an orphanage but Sattoe Kiver closed it down and demolished it,” said Kid. “How many more orphans are there?” asked Deeva. “I don’t know, I never learned how to count,” said Kid with tears starting to run down his cheek. Deeva put her arm around kid to comfort him. She drew a teleporter card from her deck. “I am going to take you home with me, get you something to eat, and then we will go from there,” said Deeva.
Deeva put a plate of spaghetti on the table. “What is that?” asked Kid. “It is spaghetti,” said Deeva. “Is it good?” asked Kid. “Don’t tell you have never ate spaghetti before,” said Deeva. “No, most of what was served at the orphanage was soups and dry bread,” said Kid. “Soup and dry bread?” asked Deeva. “Yes, that’s all they could afford because the Kivers owned the building and kept going up on rent. When Mother Frances got behind on rent Sattoe Kiver had her and the orphans evicted and tore the building down,” said Kid. Deeva wanted to say something but she decided it would be better if she kept quiet.
“How old are you?” asked Kid changing the conversation. “I am 19,” said Deeva. “Is your parents still around?” asked Kid. “Yes, but they do not where I am,” said Deeva. “Don’t know where you are?” asked Kid with a confused look on his face. “I ran away from home when I was 14,” said Deeva. “Why did you do that?” asked Kid. “Because I was young ,stupid, and rather than live by my parent’s rules, I wanted to live by my own rules” said Deeva. “What happened?” asked Kid. “I ran away from home and while I was scavenging for food, I met a woman named Mama Luv. She took me in and got me on the right path,” said Deeva. “What happened to her?” asked Kid. “She passed away a couple of years ago,” said Kid. “I bet she would be proud if she saw what you were doing. Have you ever thought about going back and visiting your parents?” asked Kid. “I have thought about it, but I figure they would probably not see me,” said Deeva. “You ought to at least try since you have the opportunity to see your parents. I will never have that opportunity,” said Kid starting to cry.
Deeva and Kid heard a noise at the front door. “What was that?” asked Kid. “I don’t know,” said Deeva going to the window. She saw Dan Karnosh and his group of thieves. “Hand me the crystal quickly,” said Deeva. Kid handed Deeva the Lightning Crystal. She took a sticky pad wrote a note and attached it to the crystal. She drew a card from her deck. “I summon the Spell Card Wormhole,” said Deeva. A blue hole appeared on the wall and Deeva threw the crystal into the hole.
Sally and her best friend Taylor was stretched out across Sally’s bed watching tv. A blue hole appeared on the wall and the Lightning Crystal flew across the room and hit the bedroom door. “What the heck was that?” asked Taylor. Sally went over and picked up the Lighting Crystal. “It is some sort of crystal,” said Sally examining the it. She found the note that Deeva had attached to the crystal. “Need help, Dan Karnosh wants crystal, when you get this we may be captives and on the way to Pirate Island, Deeva,” read Sally. “Who in the heck is Dan Karnosh?” asked Taylor. “I am not sure, but I am trying to figure out why Deeva used the word we,” said Sally. “That is weird because we usually means more than one person,” said Taylor. “It maybe a trap,” said Sally. “What are you going to do?” asked Taylor. “We are going to teleport to Deeva’s house and find out what is going,” said Sally. “Wait a minute what is this we thing,” said Taylor. “I am going to Deeva’s house and you are going with me to cover my back,” said Sally.
Sally and Taylor teleported to Deeva’s house and saw the front door had been forced open. They carefully entered the house and searched each room but did not find anyone. Sally took Deeva’s note out of her pocket. “When you get this we may be captives on the way to Pirate Island, Deeva,” said Sally rereading the last part of the note. “We may need to go to Pirate Island,” said Taylor. “Right, but we don’t need to teleport directly, no telling what sort of hocus pocus could be waiting for us,” said Sally. “What, we need is a map,” said Taylor. “I know just where to find one,” said Sally drawing a teleporter card from her deck.
Taylor and Sally teleported to Allgood Public Library. They went into the library and started looking at a map of the Planet Utopia. “We could teleport to Water City and try to rent a boat,” said Taylor looking at the map. “If that did not work we could always try Cape Baloo,” said Sally pointing to Cape Baloo and moving her finger across the map to Pirate Island.
Sally and Taylor rented a speed boat and traveled to Pirate Island. They walked up to the front door of Dan Karnosh hideout. Sally closed her eyes and her Princess Locket began to glow. A deck of cards appeared in her right hand. She kicked the door open and Taylor followed her in. They found Deeva and Kid locked in a cell. Sally drew a card from her a deck. “I summon the Spell Card Magic Hole. A hole appeared allowing Deeva and Kid to escape from the cell. “Now lets get the heck out of here this place gives me the creeps,” said Taylor. As they started to leave Dan Karnosh entered the room. “And where do you think you are going?” asked Dan drawing a sword. “There is only one thing to do,” said Deeva. “What’s that?” asked Taylor. “Run!” shouted Deeva. Sally, Taylor, Deeva, and Kid took off running with Dan Karnosh running behind them.
Sally, Taylor, Deeva, and Kid got in a speed boat and sped away trying to escape Dan karnosh, who got in one of his speed boats and followed them.
Dan reached in his pocket and pulled out a deck of cards. He drew a card from the deck. “I summon magic cannon,” said Dan drawing his sword. “Magic Cannon attack!” shouted Dan. The cannon fired and a cannonball flew through the air towards the four young heroes. The cannonball missed the speed boat. “Drat! Stupid, stupid, magic cannon, you missed!” shouted Dan.
“Looks like Karnosh wants to play dirty,” said Deeva standing up in the boat. Sally stood up beside her. “I summon the Spell Card Fireball,” said Deeva. A fireball appeared in front of Deeva. “Fireball attack!” shouted Deeva. The fireball flew towards Dan. “He drew a card from his deck. “I play reverse attack,” said Dan laughing. The fireball turned around and headed towards Deeva. Sally drew a card from her deck. “I summon Berserker Crush,” said Sally. A Fuzzball with a pair of wings and two eyes appeared in front of Sally. “Berserker Crush destroy the fireball,” said Sally. Berserker Crush flew into the fireball. Both the fireball and Berserker Crush exploded over the water.
“Magic Cannon attack!” shouted Dan waving his sword. The cannon fired and this time the cannonball hit the speed boat. Dan started laughing as the boat started to sink.
In the distance Dan saw a Warship approaching. The warship was the SS Kiver Two and Sattoe Kiver was captain of the ship. Sattoe looked through his binoculars and saw Dan. “There is the snake that stole the lightning crystal. Fire!” shouted Sattoe. Makabu pressed a button and the cannon on the SS Kiver Two fired. A cannonball flew towards Dan. “I will get my revenge and the Lightning Crystal, but that will be another day,” said Dan turning the speed boat around and leaving.
Sattoe and Makabu rescued Sally, Taylor, Deeva, and Kid. “Thanks for saving us but how did you know where were?” asked Sally. “I have my sources. Now is the Lightning Crystal safe?” asked Sattoe. “Don’t worry about the crystal Kiver, it is someplace where you will never find it, “ said Deeva. “I don’t want that stupid crystal for myself. I just wanted to make sure that Dan Karnosh did not use it to destroy the world,” said Sattoe walking off.
Sally and Taylor were fixing to teleport home. “Could you watch Kid while I do something?” asked Deeva. “Sure if it does not take too long,” said Sally. Deeva teleported to where she lived before she ran away, but all that remained of the house where she grew up was a concrete slab. “Deeva is that you?” asked the neighbor sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair. “Yes, Mrs. Winkles. it is me,” said Deeva walking up to the front porch. “It is so good to see you,” said Mrs. Winkles giving Deeva a hug. “What happened to the house and my parents?” asked Deeva. “The house burned a couple of years ago and your parents found a new place to live. I don’t know where your parents are living now because I lost contact with them,” said Mrs. Winkles. Deeva and Mrs. Wrinkles visited for a while and then Deeva teleported back to her house.
“Did you get to see your parents?” asked kid. “No, the house burned a couple of years ago and they moved,” said Deeva. “I am sorry,” said Kid. “That is ok, I think we forgot something,” said Deeva. “What is that?” asked Kid. “When I brought you home with me we were going to get you something to eat and figure out what we were going to do next,” said Deeva.
Deeva came up with an idea. “What if you stayed with me for a while. It does get lonely and I have an extra bedroom,” said Deeva. “My own room! I never had one before,” said Kid hugging Deeva.
