A Song for Spring
Born 1954, F, from Township of Washington, United StatesMother Robin was nurturing and protective. She loved her babies and built a most beautiful nest made out of twigs and berries. She sat on her powder blue eggs to keep them warm and healthy. When they were ready to hatch, they came out into the world slowly, peering out at their new world and hanging onto their mother.
Mother Robin showed them things. She taught them about the earth and the life around them. She taught them so many things little by little, as she flew back and forth for worms and other things they needed to eat and get strong.
One day, she decided that they were ready to go out into the world. The babies cried and screamed, because they were scared, but she would not have any of that nonsense, and she very gently pushed the little birdies out of the nest.
They fell, then they flew up to the sky and down to the earth. They discovered other birds flying as they did and saw other animals and all the special things they did, like the butterfly coming out of the cocoon, the geese learning to swim and fly with the flock, the deer learning to fend for themselves by grazing and drinking water in the lush green woods and much more.
The world was a scary place for the baby robins, but they knew they had to fly and fend for themselves now, because Mother Robin wasn't there anymore. And they did. It was much easier than they thought, and it was also so beautiful. They were special. Birds are. They flew effortlessly and gracefully, as they did it more and more. What a wondrous world. Their nest was cozy and warm, but the world was flowing with such spectacular things they wouldn't want to miss. All the trees they rested upon, all the sunsets they swerved through.
They were afraid, but they learned. They had no choice, as Mother Robin kicked them out. But they were now glad and grateful for their mother but excited about the new life as one of those special animals called birds, and more specifically, robins.
