The Blob Fish Madness
November 1, 2016
In New York, there is an Underwater Creatures Museum. Dolphins, sharks and even blob fish lived in there. All the sea creatures enjoyed the attention of the amazed kids and parents when they see them in their large tank. All the sea creatures enjoyed the attention except Blob the blob fish and his blob fish friends. Because when everyone walks past their large tank, they’ll all say “Eww!” Or “What on Earth, is that a piece of blob?”. Everyone would think or say that except the marine biologist, Alexia Morgan. Alexia was studying the underwater creatures, how they lived back in the old times or if they had any powers. Alexia has long, light brown hair and is a tall person. She’s an expert researcher and marine biologist. Alexia is very good at convincing people to study how the undersea creatures live.
The museum director thinks that since no one likes the blob fish, they should get destroyed and then a new underwater creature can replace it. The museum director was already making plans to destroy all the blob fish. But Alexia thought that wasn’t necessary since she was studying underwater creatures and really thought that blob fish had potential. Alexia knew that she had to find some kind of evidence to prove to the director that blob fish should stay. So Alexia went into deep researching to prove to the director that the blob fish exhibition didn't have to get destroyed.
While Alexia researched, she found a lot of information she already knew, so she decided to read some history about blob fish. What Alexia found was very useful. She found out that blob fish had a special power. The power was that if the blob fish got destroyed, humans within 100 miles would get destroyed too. Alexia knew she had found the perfect evidence to prove the museum director, Leslie Smith, wrong. Alexia quickly jotted down the piece of evidence she found on a piece paper, and brought the history book. She could use it to tell Leslie that he was wrong about the blob fish.
Alexia was excited about her findings of the power the blob fish had. When Alexia had reached Leslie’s office, she realize Leslie had gone on a business trip. Right after telling the Anti Ugly Creature Society about destroying blob fishes. Alexia thought she had lost her chance to save the blob fishes and the world. Luckily, Alexia always had good ideas. Because she thought about the idea of going to the Anti Ugly Creature Society’s building. When Alexia arrived there, she found the office of Anti Ugly Creature Society’s director, or the AUCS office in a short form. The AUCS director, Nina Chevron, was sitting at her desk typing keys on her computer. Nina had shoulder length chestnut brown hair and wore very formal work clothes. Alexia knew she must be very serious with her job.
“What do you want?” Nina said without looking up from her computer screen when Alexia had entered the room.
“I’m Alexia Morgan, and I came here to tell why you shouldn’t destroy blob fish. Did Leslie Smith come here to fill in a report to destroy blob fish? That’s why I’m here to convince you not to.”
Nina snickered. “Sorry Miss Morgan, but I cannot share private information to you.”
Alexia’s eyes flared with anger because no one knew the power blob fish had.
“Well Miss Chevron, did you know that blob fish has a power that if they get destroyed, humans will too.”
“I don’t think that’s very possible Miss Morgan.” Nina said. Alexia showed her the proof she had written down, then showed Nina where she had found the paragraph about blob fish in the history book.
Nina’s mouth dropped wide open and her eyes were wide in amazement. Then she closed her mouth and thought quietly for a very long time. And said in a very well mannered voice, “I think you’re right, but what can we do? Mr. Smith came in
here this morning to report about the blob fishes, so we already made an appointment for tomorrow to destroy all the blob fishes. You see Miss Morgan, I only make the arrangement with whoever’s going to destroy the creatures.”
Alexia quickly thought what she could do to prevent destroying the blob fishes. Another idea formed in her head. “Miss Chevron, do you think we can spread the word around the world? So that everyone would know how important blob fishes are.”
Nina responded quickly, “That is a great idea Miss Morgan. I think we could write an article about how important the blob fish are to the world. Then we can add the evidence we have. After, we can write to New York Daily’s editor and ask him if he could help us spread the word by placing the article in the newspaper.”
Alexia and Nina worked quickly and wrote an convincing article about not destroying blob fishes and why. When the craziness of rushing to write an article and sending the e-mail to the editor was over, dawn had already turned to dusk. Alexia said bye to Nina, who promised that the word would spread. Alexia left the building, then headed to her apartment.
When the sun rose over New York City the next day, it reminded Alexia that it was time for her to get up and go to work. Alexia got dressed and showered, ate her breakfast then headed out the door for work. When Alexia was outside, she went into the bookstore to buy a newspaper. She dropped a quarter in the machine then a newspaper came out from the slot. Alexia took it then read the headline. It was a huge headline that said, ”Alexia Morgan and Nina Chevron stopped workers from destroying Blob fish”. Under the huge headline was the article she and Nina had wrote the day before. Alexia smiled to herself because she had accomplished half of her mission.
Alexia left the bookstore then headed to the museum. A lot of people must have read the newspaper because they stopped Alexia on the street to question her about the article in the newspaper and if it was true or not. Alexia took her time and explained to the people, then showed them the evidence. The people agreed and promised to try to spread the word around.
When Alexia arrived at the museum, she was right on time. She went to her office and started to research more on blob fish. When it was about lunchtime, Alexia received a call from Nina. It was about that the word had spread so quickly that the press wanted to interview them about blob fish and it’s power. Alexia agreed to do the interview. She told the museum she would be gone for the rest of the day then went to meet Nina for the interview.
“Are you nervous? We finally get to tell to world how important blob fish are to the world!” Nina said in an exited voice. Alexia had just arrived at the press office and was seated next to Nina, on the comfortable, soft couch. They were waiting for the interview to start.
“I am not nervous at all. The world should know about blob fish and their power.” Alexia said firmly.
The reporters started to fill in the room and began to ask questions. They wanted to know everything about blob fish. Alexia told them about everything she found out, their history and their power. After forty five minutes, the interview ended. The reporters began to pack their things, said bye to Alexia and Nina, then headed out the door.
“Isn’t this blob fish madness?” Nina asked Alexia.
“I agree, I hope that people in New York City know what power the blob fish has so that no one will get destroyed,” Alexia replied. Alexia and Nina went to grab a quick late lunch then each of them went separate ways. Alexia went home, and Nina went back to her office.
The next day, Alexia did her usual morning routine then headed out the door for work. It was the last day before the weekend. Alexia went to the bookstore and dropped her coin into the machine for a newspaper. She couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw the first page of the newspaper. “MARINE BIOLOGIST ALEXIA MORGAN SAVES NEW YORK CITY FROM GETTING DESTROYED” was what it said on that morning’s headline.
Alexia stood there, amazed, at what the article below said. The article explained how Alexia found out the history of blob fish and it’s power. Then it also said that in another state, someone had destroyed a blob fish and people got destroyed. This was why New York City was so happy that Alexia had made a stand and told all the citizens about the blob fish and it’s power. Alexia felt proud because she accomplished her mission.
When Alexia was walking to the museum, people stopped her on the street to congratulate her about her actions of saving the blob fish. Several people called Alexia a hero.
When Alexia arrived at the museum, all the staff members congratulated her. Even the museum director, Leslie. Alexia received a call from Nina, who also congratulated her. Alexia went to the blob fish exhibit and whispered to the blob fishes,“ I did it blob fishes, you won’t get destroyed.”
Blob fishes were now the attraction of the Underwater Creatures Museum. Everyone was interested about learning their power. When tourists went inside the museum, they all wanted to see the blob fish and get to know their history. No one ever said mean remarks about blob fishes ever again. Leslie apologized to Alexia for him misjudging the blob fishes. A lot people got inspired by Alexia’s action about saving the blob fish and citizens. Now, there isn’t an Anti Ugly Creature society anymore, it’s called HAMCS. Which stands for Helping Any Misjudged Creature Society.
After everyone realized what Alexia had done to save New York City, everyone was astonished and glad. Alexia received an amount of money from the HAMCS as a “Thank you for your action to New York”. Alexia felt really proud of herself because she had achieved a mission, and while achieving it she had help from Nina, so she also had gained a friend. Soon, the news had spread around the world about Alexia being a hero. The world learned a very important lesson from Alexia of what she had done to save New York. The people learned that you can’t judge people or creatures. Because even if they don’t look good, they still can have a great personality.

08/04/2018You've written a somewhat silly but fun story, Joyce, and I enjoyed reading it. I'm very glad that your character was able to save the blob fish, but I personally wish that there could have been a less far-fetched reason why they were saved, and that your character could have become famous for helping everyone realize how special blob fish were, and how much they deserved to survive, for a more ordinary and believable reason. There are so many creatures on our planet who are in danger of becoming extinct. I think in many ways it is true that the survival of human beings also relies on the survival of our environment and the other creatures that inhabit our world. When they die, eventually it will cause our demise as well. Honey bees for instance. We cannot survive without them, since they pollinate the food we grow and eat. We are much more dependent than we realize on so many other species, and everything is interconnected in ways we cannot comprehend. The blog fish is an amazing creature unlike anything else on the planet, in or out of water, and we really do not know very much about it yet. Perhaps it is one of the most ancient creatures of the sea that we have only recently discovered existed. Perhaps it plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and well being of the sea and other creatures that we have not learned about yet. I think your story is very good because it brings up a lot of these kinds of questions. Even if people will not immediately die if blob fish are killed, like you suggest in your story, it is entirely possible that the decline and/or extinction of blob fish could cause series damage to human beings down the road in a way that we cannot imagine now. So good job for bringing these ideas to readers through your story, Joyce! Thank you for sharing your short stories on Storystar! :-)
