The Golden Trumpet

(Note that the author was 13 years old when she wrote this story.)

Captain Andrew turned to his crew and examined their progress. Jordan was sending signals home to the mothership, Emily was checking the engine status, Chelsie was updating the Computer Systems Program (CSP), and Jenna and Tyler were checking all the ship's corridors and rooms for wear or depletion. Andrew shook his head softly and turned back to the engine controls.

"Jordan, could you send us a picture of the mothership? I would like to speak with their commander-in-chief immediately."

"Yes, Sir." As Jordan turned to the controls, Andrew smoothed his uniform and checked for stains. The red suits with their treble clef emblem in the corner were a flashy addition to the Treble Oasis, their uniquely built ship. Andrew remembered when the commander-in-chief had congratulated them because they had been able to pick decent-looking uniforms out. Most of the other ships in the music Galaxy had been totally out-of-fashion with their uniforms.

"That's wonderful news, Tyler. I hope it works out.... Oh, Captain Andrew! We found only one problem but fixed it immediately." Jenna and Tyler walked over and handed the note of inspection to Andrew before walking back to their station spots at the radio controls.

"Captain Andrew!" Chelsie yelled as she frantically pushed buttons. "The system indicates another ship in our area- and it looks as though it's from the Choir Galaxy!" Chelsie immediately began trying to get their signal.

"The Choir Galaxy? It could only be one person... Nick from the Bass Challenger. Hello men, what do you want?" Andrew had turned towards the screen and saw a picture from the Bass Challenger, one of the main ships in the Choir Galaxy. The ship looked like a large box according to Andrew, but he knew it was much more than that. The basic Office For Commands that the screen constantly showed was a large, spacious room with a black trim that stood out against the bright white walls that held several different posters for the Choir Galaxy. The three men on the screen had on crisp, clean uniforms that were overly dressed with excessive medals.

"I am Dan, and this is Vince and Chris. We are here on the orders of Nick, captain of the Bass Challenger, to receive what is rightfully ours- the Golden Trumpet!" Everyone on the Treble Oasis gasped. To their knowledge it had been confiscated, but apparently their captain still had it.

"The Golden Trumpet was created for the founder of the Music Galaxy - it has nothing to do with the Bass challenger or the Choir Galaxy. So I will ask you nicely to-" A sudden tremble in the ship sent its members in all directions. The engine's warning beeping told them that one engine was down. As Emily jumped up to check the engines, the screen flickered and reappeared - this time with Nick on it. His uniform seemed to be made of the many medals that shined against the overhead light above his head. Nick shifted from one foot to the other while keeping in perfect balance with the floor.

"You dare..." Andrew glared at Nick with anger. The smile on Nick's face showed he was confident in his capture of the Trumpet. "In our history, it is written that the leader of the Choir Galaxy made the Golden Trumpet.. and now we want it back!"

"Not without a FIGHT!" Andrew's last word was emphasized with a blast from the cannon to Nick's ship. the blow took him out greatly.

"This, Treble Oasis, means only one thing... Captain-to-captain galaxy fight!" Andrew knew his meant fighting with his galaxy at hand, but he had nothing left to do, and he knew he would win.

"You're on!" Andrew immediately fired three missiles and a base-drop cannon, but the Bass challenger was one step ahead of him - with an Automated Shield Responser. Andrew had to use all the logic he knew to miss being hit by his shots that were bouncing off the Bass Challenger's shield.

"Chelsie, turn on the battle music!" As the ship dodged another shot, Chelsie pushed the battle music button. Immediately, the crew heard the hard-core rhythm of "Back in Black," by ACDC. "Well I'm, yeah, yeah, I'm back in black, yes I'm back in black!" Andrew sung along with the music while battling. It wasn't long before he found the Bass Challenger's weak spot.

"We want the funk! Gotta have that funk!" Andrew was singing along with the next song, "Tear the Roof off the Sucker," when an idea came to him - what if Tyler and one of Nick's men had a Magic Game?
"Nick, I have a proposal for you... a Magic Game - and winner takes the trumpet!"

Andrew glared at Nick while he thought. "Hmmm. Sounds interesting. Vince!"
Vince walked over to beside Nick.
"Yes, sir?" Vince saluted him.
"I want you to go to their ship and play your heart out in a game of Magic - for the Golden Trumpet!"
Vince looked quite pleased as he took the offer. Nick turned to Andrew.
"Remember, no funny stuff. I'm watching," Nick said before transporting Vince. It was just a second before he arrived.
"Let's do this!" Vince got out his deck as did Tyler.
"Don't think you're gonna win, Vince," Tyler sneered. Vince just glared back.

The game was intense, with tricks up both side's sleeves, and each captain yelling about every move being made. It took only ten short minutes for the game to be over.
"Well, Nick," said Andrew, smiling, "I'd propose that we won. So you can have Vince back, and return to the Choir galaxy where you belong."
"This won't be the last of me!" Nick yelled before transporting Vince. Then he was gone.
"Good job, Tyler," congratulated Andrew and the crew.
"That was great!" Emily exclaimed.
"Well," said Andrew, "the only thing that really matters is that the Golden Trumpet is safe." And then he pulled it out from under his chair and began to play "William Tell."
