Tale of a Knight Called Winston

Tale of a Knight Called Winston
Our dear story begins, like most all stories do.
In a land far away, kissed by earth's morning dew.
Each tree glistened each morning, bold and bright
The flowers were beautiful; it was a wonderful site.

The houses were big, built sturdy and strong.
The people were varied, some right and some wrong.
The town does have a name; I forgot to mention
Leaving it out was not my intention.

The town was called Venice, not many knew it was there.
It wasn't a famous town, but its residents didn't care.
The town was quite tiny, thus a hero did preside.
He was noble, and brave and boasting with pride.

His name was Sir Winston; he was handsome and tall.
And never in a battle, would Sir Winston fall.
He protected his land, and was ready to fight.
This is why our Sir Winston became a knight.

He knew in his heart, he would be devoted to the code.
His honesty held up and his ability showed.
The tales of Sir Winston could go on for days.
His townspeople have even turned his stories to plays.

But this is the tale of how he met his lady liege.
And all that came with it, tears, battle and siege.
On a warm sunny day, as he was practicing swinging,
His mighty sword fiercely, he heard beautiful singing.

He stopped his act and followed the sound.
He trudged through the brush till the creator was found.
She was a beautiful girl, all of nineteen.
She was the most beautiful girl Sir Winston had seen.

She continued her song, with melody and in tune.
And kneeled to her garden and proceeded to prune.
Sir Winston watched her closely, admiring her face.
His heart was beating fast, at an irregular pace.

When suddenly, he sneezed, unable to control it.
The girl gasped and turned towards him in a frightened fit.
"Who are you?" She asked "Why are you here?"
"Sir Winston," he replied, "Please, have no fear.

I heard your song, so peaceful and supreme.
I had to find the singer, to make sure it wasn't a dream."
The girl looked at Sir Winston and began to smile.
"You've been the talk of this land, from mile to mile.

But what exactly makes you what you claim to be?
You look like an ordinary Knight to me."
Sir Winston stood still; He couldn't move.
That was a big question he had to prove.

He starred at her blankly, without a clue.
He wanted to show her that the claims were true.
"Madam," He said, I assure you I'm great!
I don't mean to be forward, but could we go on a date?"

"A date?" The lady questioned, "Well, I suppose.
You've caught me off guard, but a true lady goes.
Even when she's confused or unsure of her fate;
Be there tomorrow at my castle doors at eight."

Sir Winston left the garden and returned home.
When he arrived, he removed his armor, metal and chrome.
All night he dreamed of her and hoped she did the same.
Then awkwardly realized he didn't know her name.

'Tomorrow, I'll ask my love for her name, first and last;
and pledge to always love her, regardless of her past.'
The next day he went to her castle at eight.
He tied up his steed and entered the gate.

He called out her name, well he called out "My lady."
For not knowing her name, he felt kind of shady.
"My lady, I await you. Please, come down and greet me.
For if you choose to stay there, I'll climb up this tree.

I've prepared for this moment, and it is now eight.
The time which you said we'd begin our date."
"Sir Winston," she yelled back, "I cannot come down.
My father will kill me and confiscate my crown."

"Your crown?" He questioned. "That's absurd!
Your singing I did heed, but that you're royalty I had not heard."
"It's true, Sir Winston. My father is king.
To win my true love and present me my ring,
You must battle Farmer Horace, and defeat him alone
So that we can be together and our true love shown!"

Battling was something Sir Winston knew well.
It's obvious from his history and the stories people tell.
But to fight for love, this was his first time.
He was in excellent condition, at the peak of his prime.

He knew he could do it. He was confident with himself,
and the prize for this battle was much greater than simple wealth.
"I'll fight him, my lady. Our true love we'll proclaim!
But I must know one thing, and that one thing is your name."

"Princess Gwendolyn is my name. Remember it well.
For this will be the your best story to tell!"
So on top of Battle Hill, Sir Winston waited.
He was actually nervous. His emotions were jaded.

"Sir Winston!" a voice yelled, "This battle shall now begin
and to the knight who is victorious, the princess's love he shall win!"
The battle was long. It was fierce. It was a bloody sight.
This was Sir Winston's hardest battle to fight.

But in the end, Sir Winston was the winner.
He ran to his love, to take her to dinner.
"I've won the battle! We can be together at last.
Come down Princess Gwendolyn. Forget all your past.
We'll create a new life, filled with love and trust
and run away to a new land, so come down, you must!"

"Oh Sir Winston, my knight in shinning armor,
you've saved me from marrying Horace the farmer!
I love you with every beat of my heart.
I'll be right down, so our new life we can start!"

Princess Gwendolyn ran down and jumped on Winston's horse.
And they lived happily ever after, like all good people of course.
The townspeople made a play, like they have with the rest.
But this one was definitely the best of the best!
