The Ghosts in My Life and How They Helped Me
Born 1953, F, from Lyons, Michigan, United StatesThe first encounter with a ghost was when I was 8 I lived in the country. Every Sunday my sisters and I walked to church and on the way home from church I would lag behind. I would talk with the animals on the way, telling them all I had learned at Sunday school that morning.
My older sister Lynette would yell at me, "Hurry up, you take to long. I refuse to wait for you". I would say, "I don’t care".
It was in the fall. My Sunday school teacher Mrs. Jameson had died during the week and I wasn’t told, so when I went to Sunday school and I had a new teacher I was pretty upset. So this time when I was lagging behind my older sister didn’t yell at me, or my little sister Jane. We were both crying and walking really slowly. Jane wondered why God would take her home when we needed her so much? She had no more said that when Mrs Jameson's ghost stopped us and started talking to us, telling us that she would be here for us as long as we needed her to be.
Mrs. Jameson would walk with us and talk with us just about everyday. She helped us with so many things. One day our dog we had for 10 years died and she helped us with that, and many more things. Like when our dad would come home drunk, and she would tell us that all will be alright, and don’t go downstairs even when we heard yelling from mom. She knew we would get hurt if we did. This went on for about 5 years. Then one day Mrs. Jameson said her time here on earth was done, but don’t you worry because you will soon have another one that will help you.
My grandfather died about a month after Mrs. Jameson left us. He woke me up late one night and said, Deb, I want you to know that I killed myself tonight and I don’t want you to ever do that. June had already been woke up by Grandpa. Grandpa would tell us stories about him and his life. He also gave us advice as well. We took his advice sometimes, but not all the time. He would get a little upset when we didn’t. Grandpa always forgave us when we didn’t. Grandpa was there when our children were born and about a couple years after my last child was born he said that it was his time to go to heaven and I could now lean on my husband. Jane was told the same thing.
We miss our ghosts but we were sure glad we had them in our lives.
