The Movements!
Born 1966, F, from Bend, Oregon, United StatesIt was a cool and gloomy day. She looked out the window and saw the Juniper tree moving gracefully by a soft wind gusting quietly. She looked further and saw some movements in the middle of the bushes that were almost dried by the scorching heat of the summer. She wanted to go out to see what caused those movements, but she was so afraid that she would see something that she would not like to see.
But the more she looked at it, the more she got curious about what it would be. She opened the door, took a deep breath and slowly walked toward the bushes where she saw the movements. She was about ten feet away from where she saw the movements when she heard someone calling her name. She turned around to see who called her and she was surprised to see her neighbor behind her, carrying an axe with its blade covered with blood.
For a moment, she didn't know what to do. She wanted to say something but she couldn't think of anything to say. Finally, she asked him about how his day had been going. Then she offered him to come inside and join her for a cup of coffee. He smiled at her and followed her inside the house. He carried his axe with him and laid it under the coffee table.
They were sitting next to the window where she saw the movements in the bushes. Then she saw the movements again and her eyes were glued to it. She didn't know how long she'd stared at the movements, she just realized it had been a while because when she looked at him, he was gone.
Her imagination started running wild. She began searching the house to make sure that he wasn't there hiding. She felt relieved knowing that nobody's in the house except her.
She thought of going out to the bushes again but when she opened the door it started raining. She closed the door and locked it, then she went to the kitchen and made herself a dinner. Suddenly, she heard some noises coming from the attic, the only place in the house she hadn't searched. She panic thinking that it was him hiding in the attic waiting for the dark to come. She ran into the bedroom and looked for the gun she had been hiding for a long time. She couldn't find it. She was becoming more and more scared. What is she supposed to do?
She sat on the floor of her bedroom leaning back against her bed. She tried to calm herself down and think of what she could do in this kind of situation. She took a deep breath... then another one... and then another one. Now she had the courage to go up and check the attic. She carried an old baseball bat that her husband left her. She climbed up the stairs slowly and quietly.
A few more steps and she will be standing in front of the attic door. She bowed her head down and uttered a simple prayer. Then she walked slowly and stopped at the door. It was quiet inside. She held the door knob and twisted it to open. It was locked. Now she needed to go back down to get the key.
Downstairs, she looked out the window and saw that it was totally dark. The rain was getting heavier and the wind was blowing harder. As she stepped toward the store room to look for the key, the power went out. It was so dark and she couldn't see anything. Frustrated, she screamed so loud that she startled her cat that she didn't know was following her every move.
Afraid of the dark, she shut her eyes and ran her hands on the shelves in the store room. She knew she had a torch there and some candles and matches. But her eyes were closed so that she didn't realize she was running her hands in the wrong shelves. Then she felt something! Soft, furry and wet. What could it be? She opened her eyes and realized she could see in the dark. She looked at the thing she just felt. It was a dead mouse that maybe her cat caught and killed. The sight of it made her feel sick so that she wanted to throw up, so she ran into the bathroom next to the store room and puked herself out.
She returned to the store room and looked for the torch. She found it, but it wasn't working. She looked for the candles and the matches. She found them and she was about to light a candle when the power came back. It was such a relief! Then she heard the noises from the attic again. She grabbed the key and hurried back upstairs. This time she wasn't carrying the baseball bat.
She unlocked the door and opened it. She was shocked with the sight she just saw. The attic's window was open and the wind was blowing the rain inside and totally drenching the whole room. It was such a disaster. The noises that she heard were coming from the old painting that was hanging on the wall with the wind blowing it. She closed the window and said to herself she would take care of the attic the next day.
She looked at her watch and it was getting late. It's time to retire for the night. She looks out the window for the last time before she goes to bed. All of a sudden, there was a lightning and she saw someone standing in the bushes where she saw the movements earlier. It looked like her neighbor who had a bloody axe, and he was looking right into the house.
She went to bed and was asleep the minute she laid down. In the middle of the night she woke up with the sound of her door banging, like someone was trying to break in. She got up and, before she gets to the door, her neighbor was inside and was walking towards her with his bloody axe. She wanted to run away but she couldn't move. Her neighbor was getting closer but her feet seemed to be glued down on the floor. She just couldn't move. Then he raised his axe to kill her. She could do nothing but to scream for help. She screamed... and screamed... and screamed.... Then she heard someone calling her name. It was a voice of someone she knew. It was her husband saying, "wake up, wake up.. you're having a dream!". Then she realized she was having a bad dream.
