BIG BULL
Born 1976, M, from Maharashrta, IndiaMaya (cow) is in pain the whole night. Just before sunrise a small piece of asteroid from another planet struck the earth just beside the bull she gave birth to. The first breath the bull inhaled included the gases from another planet, as if it was planned by GOD. The fumes inhaled by the baby bull made him so thirsty he crawled to Maya for milk. After quenching his thirst for almost an hour he was ready to stand on his legs.
Ganu, who owned the cow, and Shyam, his son, were very happy to see the baby bull, as they were poor farmers and had only one bull to row the farm. The small bull, when he grows, will be of great help when farming, Ganu thought. But there was something very unususal about this particular bull. His structure was different than other small bulls Ganu had ever seen. He had a big hump and his thigh portion was much bigger.
Days went by and the small bull grew into a giant monster. Ganu had named him BIG after seeing all his features, and imagined that he was surely going to be different than any other bull in the village. BIG was very different. Where Ganu had thought that he would require 2 bulls to row the farm, BIG alone would row it in half of the time. But in return he would consume so much fodder that sometimes Ganu would be surprised. He loved him a lot and had no problem with his eating habit. Sometimes at late night he would listen to BIG eating.
The Festival POLA marks the day when farmers worship their bulls. Pola Festival is celebrated throughout the state of Maharashtra, India. Shyam had decorated BIG in such a way that every one passing by would turn around and look at him. Shyam was feeling really proud to have BIG in his family. While walking down the village street BIG came across Gauri (cow) and fell in love at first sight. BIG swiftly turned around and started walking behind Gauri. Shyam tried to get BIG back, but who can stop the BIG bull? He left him on his own and went back home. BIG came back home late in the evening. Shyam showed him the prize he had received as the best bull in the village. BIG, not showing much interest, walked and sat under a tree, dreaming about Gauri.
BIG didn't see her for quite some time and was very depressed and had no interest in work. He had been in a dreamland since he saw Gauri. Ganu was worried as to what had happened to BIG, why he had no interest to work. Also, he was not eating much. Discussing the same with Shyam he told Shyam that he would take BIG to a veterinary doctor to check him out. Shyam said, "I know what his problem is. No need to go to the doctor. He will be okay before the sunrise tommorow." That same afternoon Shyam took BIG to the place where Gauri stays. Seeing Gauri, BIG goes out of control and runs to reach her as fast as he can. Both are very happy to see each other. Till evening BIG spends time with Gauri, and then returns back home with Shyam. Shyam promises him that if he works properly and does not show lazyness, he will take him to Gauri every other day. BIG is vey happy and does as Shyam says. Days go by and BIG feels that he is the happiest bull on earth. Until one day when he comes to know that Gauri is going to go far far away from him.
There has been no rain the last year. What if this year again it does not rain???? This has been the question for the farmers. This small village in maharashtra (INDIA) is totally dependent on rain for farming. Farmers have sown the seed and are waiting for the rains to come. But instead there is drought. To survive, there is no other source of income other than farming. On the other side, there is a meat export company in the city which is waiting for such time when the farmers come to them to sell their cattle, for survival. Gauri has been sold by her master.
One day the meat exporters arrive to carry the cattle to the slaughter house in the city. They are about to tie and load everyone in the train when BIG comes running and slams through the door, looking for Gauri. When he finds her, without creating any havock, he stands silently next to Gauri. Shaym comes running and says that he did not sell his bull and demanded they let him go. People try to take BIG out of the train but he will not move a bit. Eventually they have to take him to the city. Shyam goes along with BIG, thinking that once they get down from the train he will convince BIG to come back home with him. But Shyam knows that BIG will not go without Gauri, so he leaves BIG and tells him to come back home and bring Gauri with him.
Then BIG, Gauri, and other cattle are taken to a place where there are many cattle waiting to get slaughtered. In the village people are very sad and upset that they have sold their cattle for their own survival and pray to God to forgive them. Finally, it rains that day.
At the slaughter yard, BIG is waiting for the right time.... Suddenly lighting strikes and BIG grows bigger and bigger. He slams into the slaughter room and starts hitting and kicking people around and eventually rescues all the cattle from that place and runs back down to the village with Gauri and all the cattle. BIG is now the king of the village, for the bravery he showed in rescuing the cattle, which helped the farmers and made them realise their mistake.
