The Fake Smile

She smiles at me but i know it's not real.

She says, "Everythings fine", but i know she's lying.

I followed her one day. She went down an old cracked road. She headed up one of the driveways, that by far looked like one of the worst houses. She took a deep breath and walked in as quietly as possible. But i heard screaming, cursing and things breaking. The door opened again and a man stood there with a can of beer in one hand and her in the other. She had fresh bruises all over her. He drop kicked her out the door. She layed in the yard whispering something. I moved closer and listened... "please kill me".... I stared. She seemed to realize someone was with her. She looked and gasped. Using the last of her strength she got up and ran.

I had nightmares that night about what i saw. I woke and headed downstairs. The paper was on the table. The headline read... SUICIDE. I stared, wishing it would go away. I read through it quickly. She had killed herself yesterday. The father was arrested for abuse, and the mother was no where to be found.

There was a picture of her in the middle of the page.

All i could do was stare at it because it was the first time i had ever seen her real smile....
