Orientation Day

Today I was scheduled to go to an orientation of a job I desperately wanted. However, this is inbetween packing, making phone calls, getting the kids ready, showering, doing my hair, and many other things I don't even want to think about because I probably forgot them. Ok, my orientation was at 10:00 am over towards North Tacoma. Driving time is 45 minutes from my house because of traffic and construction which never seems to be done. I leave here at 9:38am. Granted, not a very good way to start a new job by being late, but there was a miscommunication with the babysitter. Argh. But this won't ruin my day. Ok, I call and say I am going to be a tad late, jobs love the call ahead rather then just being late. Even though being late should never be a habit. Once in a blue moon is acceptable only if you do the call ahead. It never looks good if the call ahead is on the first day of work or for the orientation. Ouch. But it is ok, I will repair when I get there. Before I leave I can not find the three pack of pantyhose I bought (I bought the three pack because I always end up tearing one or two before I even get out of the house), but that does not seem like that is going to happen seeing as I can't even find them. It's cool. I call babysitter and tell my problem and ask her to come early so I can stop at the store on the way there. She says no problem I have a brand new pair you can have. Cool. She gets here late! And I have to pack kids to go with her, she thought they were coming over there, I thought she was coming here. Breathe, it's ok. I leave 9:38am. I can speed here and there. And so I do. I get there at 10:07am. I grab my pantyhose, stuff them in my purse, and remember they asked for a load of paperwork to be brought with me. I shut my eyes and groan loudly before saying a favorite cuss word of mine aloud. It's ok. They'll understand you being late and not bringing the paperwork. So ok I walk in and ask where the bathroom is and go in, struggle to put them on as fast as possible and hurry down to orientation. I walk in and sit down as quietly as possible. There is a four inch thick packet of papers sitting in front of me. I get the "late-look" from my new co-workers and my new boss. I respond appropriately with an ashamed look and sit down. My new boss stops the orientation with the others to go over paperwork with the one that is late. (Sigh) She then asks for my paperwork. I quickly tell her I did not bring it because.....she interrupts and goes on with the orientation obviously not wanting to hear a "because" story this early into my employment. We finish the paperwork and go into the other room for a video. By this time another boss has joined us and I notice him looking at my behind. I think, well that's rude to check out your employees so quickly and blatantly. The female boss walks in behind him and tells me my skirt is tucked into my pantyhose!!! Oh my god!!! What these people must think of me! I am officially a mess. Late, no paperwork, interrupted orientation, and flashing the bosses. I could just die right now. However I do not die. I struggle through the rest of the orientation without bursting into tears (kudo's Holly) and pull aside the male boss to explain I am a mad woman right now but fervently promise to have it "together" when I start working for them. How much humiliation must I take in one day? You may laugh, and later I will too, right now I am going to look for a hole to crawl into......
