Sailing, Sailing, Sailing and...

Sailing, Sailing, Sailing and…

Jerry and Jenny were two sailors who had a passion for exploring the world. They had sailed across many oceans and continents, but they were not satisfied. They wanted to prove once and for all that the earth was round, and not flat as some people still believed.
They decided to embark on a round the world voyage, following the equator as closely as possible. They hoped to return to the same point where they started, thus completing a full circle around the globe.
They set sail from Singapore, heading westward. They crossed the Indian Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Pacific Ocean, encountering many wonders and dangers along the way. They saw exotic islands, majestic whales, fierce storms, and friendly natives. They also faced pirates, sharks, icebergs, and mutinies.
They kept track of their progress using a compass, a sextant, and a map. They calculated their longitude and latitude at regular intervals and marked their position on the map. They were confident that they were on the right course, and that they would soon reach their destination.
However, as they approached the end of their journey, they noticed something strange. The sun was setting in the wrong direction. Instead of setting in the west, as it should have done at the equator, it was setting in the east.
They checked their instruments again and found that they were still at the equator. They looked at their map and saw that they were only a few hundred miles away from Singapore. They should have been able to see the coast of Asia on the horizon.
But they saw nothing but water.
They were puzzled and alarmed. They wondered if they had made a mistake in their calculations, or if their instruments were faulty. They decided to sail on for another day, hoping to find some land or some sign of civilization.
But they found nothing.
They sailed on for another week, then another month, then another year. They never saw any land or any other ships. They never reached Singapore or any other port. They never completed their round the world voyage.
They realized that they had been sailing on a flat earth all along.
They were trapped in an endless ocean.
They were lost forever.

The story left me with a mixture of admiration, and awe at the beginning and then a terrifying ending.
Great one, thanks for sharing!

It's a terrifying feeling when this happens to you. The ocean is vast and you can get lost forever. A sad end of the story

What started out as noble quest ended in peril! Nice twist to the story. An entertaining short story star of the day! Well done!

A bit of silliness in the guise of a fantasy.... or maybe a horror story. Either way, interesting short. Happy short story star of the day, Donald.
