A Sudden Awakening
Born 1990, M, from Bandera/ Texas, United StatesFamous speaker and writer Jim Rohn once said, “We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment”. As I sit in my room contemplating those few but wise words spoken by this motivational speaker, certain concepts rattle around in my mind. Rather than serving as a form of help for strives and motivation, they feel like the sudden implementation of the handbrake during a high-speed acceleration. As if life was not hard enough, my dreams seem to be set back by a lot more than half the country.
As the hopes and dreams were beginning to become a reality, I began to prepare for my first year of college, at Schreiner University. There was a sense of success and accomplishment in every thing I did: I enjoyed the rush of change and of the feeling of getting a second chance to prove that I was worthy of something great. That previous year had been a hassle because I had to pick up the slack from my freshman and sophomore years of goofing off and partying. It was like a big puzzle starting to take shape.
I loved college, everything about it, the freedoms, the sights (Sexy upperclassmen girls), the classes, and even the weird smell of Trull during my stay there in Monty Days; everything was just awesome. I lived a carefree, trouble free life.
Do you know that feeling you get whenever you write a long intricate paper full of wondrous and extravagant thoughts and stories? You know, the paper that as you go to print it, instead of hitting print, you go to print preview just to savor the moment. Yes, it is the same paper that you slowly put in your binder and slowly close away as if it were to disappear on the way to school. Well unfortunately that same paper is also the one that received a big red SEVENTY PERCENT on the top of the page, with the words “Good…BUT …OFF TOPIC”, well that same feeling is present every time I realize the painful truth about my fifty-fifty chance of being successful in my near future.
It sucks to know that I might be able to get a job just fine, and start my professional life off on a good start, but the other half is present, the part that brings me back to the instance when I received my paper back with that grade and note written on it. That feeling I get is the reason I picked the quote I did to start off my paper. To me that quote is a negative and depressing view on the possible future of mine.
I examine every angle of my future and there are more chances and possibilities of failure than those of a successful life. I see my life as a trail that is about to fork up ahead. The fork rather than having two distinct directions though, it has three, and two of those directions lead to failure, and only one to success.
As the most important goal in my life, I wish to receive my bachelors of science in the field of biology, with the purpose of getting a job as a surgeon. This goal has been tampered with; the new socialist threat has been a real setback in my plans. As I continue to do as the quote says and suffer “discipline” in college, I fear that all that will be in vain when I step into the ever-changing professional world.
I can almost see the crowded halls of the hospital full of injuries and lacerations that could have been prevented when one is faced with the thought of having to pay for medical attention rather than getting it for free. The way that society will pamper the weak and give the stupid a better chance at life only to give birth to a next generation of incompetent people only stuns me. The powerful force that is that of Natural Selection will once and for all be done away with.
There is always a reason for why things happen, as morbid as that is sometimes, especially when dealing with death; it is a necessity. To tamper with the system is just calling for failure. To fix that, which is not broken, will bring upon us a scary fait. As one takes the A.C.O.R.N. scandal into consideration to question presidential legitimacy, the once stubborn and ignorant now see the incompetence in the man they placed all their faith in, with the simple excuse of “He will change things”.
Now I ask you to think twice. Instead of just going with the flow during elections and just saying “let’s try something new” please I ask you to consider the pros and cons of the situation. Consider the amount of experience your leader has, consider the amount of support he has in congress. If he is democrat, elect republicans to keep him in check, and if he is republican elect more republicans, or else he will not be able to get any bills through, because if you have not noticed, the democratic politicians are as rebellious as their citizen followers.
When you are forced with an easy decision, get informed and if your really believe in it do it. But if you do not, do not take a chance, because that experimentation can lead to a change for the worse, and maybe in the long run you too might receive your paper back with the words “OFF TOPIC “written on it.
