The First Ghouls In The Moon
Born 1951, M, from Gore Bay, CanadaThe First Ghouls In The Moon
Professor Tinskin was a brilliant scientist, but also a very eccentric one. He had a passion for space exploration, but he was not satisfied with the conventional methods of rocketry and satellites. He wanted to build his own spaceship, using his own inventions and materials. He also had a secret: he was not alive, but a reanimated cadaver, kept in motion by a mysterious device implanted in his chest.
His protégé, Mr. Boneair, was also a cadaver, but a more recent one. He had been a young and promising engineer, who had died in a tragic accident. Professor Tinskin had found his body and revived him, using his device and some modifications. Mr. Boneair was grateful to the professor for giving him a second chance at life, and became his loyal assistant and friend.
Together, they worked on their spaceship project for years, in a hidden laboratory under the professor’s mansion. They used scrap metal, wires, batteries, magnets, and other materials to create a crude but functional spacecraft. They also devised a way to protect themselves from the harsh conditions of space, using special suits and helmets.
One night, they decided to launch their spaceship and head for the moon. They had always been fascinated by the lunar surface, and wanted to see it for themselves. They boarded their craft, activated the engines, and blasted off into the sky.
The journey was not easy. They had to dodge asteroids, meteors, and satellites. They also had to deal with malfunctions, leaks, and power shortages. But they persevered, and after several hours of flight, they reached the moon.
They landed on a flat and smooth area, near a large crater. They put on their suits and helmets, and exited their craft. They were amazed by the sight of the moon’s landscape: the gray rocks, the dark shadows, the bright stars.
They decided to explore the crater, hoping to find some interesting features or samples. They walked towards it, carrying their tools and equipment. As they approached the edge of the crater, they noticed something strange: there was a hole in the ground, leading to a tunnel.
They were curious about what was inside the tunnel, so they decided to enter it. They turned on their flashlights and walked into the darkness. The tunnel was narrow and winding, but also smooth and regular. It seemed to be artificial.
They followed the tunnel for a long time, until they reached an opening. They stepped out of the tunnel and gasped: they were in a huge cavern, filled with light and life.
The cavern was like an underground city, with buildings, streets, gardens, and fountains. There were also inhabitants: hundreds of mice, wearing clothes and hats, carrying bags and tools. The mice were busy with their daily activities: working, shopping, playing.
The mice noticed the visitors and stopped what they were doing. They looked at them with curiosity and fear. The professor and Mr. Boneair looked at them with wonder and awe.
They realized that they had discovered a civilization of intelligent mice living inside the moon.
The mice gathered around them and started to chatter in their own language. The professor tried to communicate with them using gestures and sounds. He showed them his device on his chest and pointed at his spaceship outside.
The mice understood that he was trying to tell them that he came from another world. They seemed to be impressed by his device and his craft.
One of the mice stepped forward and spoke in English:
“Welcome to Lunaria, strangers. We are peaceful beings who live in harmony with nature. We have been living here for generations since our ancestors escaped from Earth’s tyranny.”
The professor was astonished by the mouse’s speech.
“How do you know our language?” he asked.
“We have learned it from your transmissions,” the mouse said. “We have been observing your world for a long time.”
“Why did you never contact us?” Mr. Boneair asked.
“Because we feared your hostility,” the mouse said. “You have shown us nothing but violence and greed.”
“We are not like that,” the professor said. “We are explorers who seek knowledge and friendship.”
“Then you are welcome here,” the mouse said. “We will show you our culture and our secrets.”
The mouse introduced himself as Whiskermyer, the leader of Lunaria. He invited them to follow him to his palace.
The professor and Mr. Boneair agreed to go with him.
They walked through the cavern city, admiring its beauty and ingenuity. The mice had built their civilization using natural resources from the moon: rocks, metals, crystals, water.
They also had a special treasure: cheese.
The mice loved cheese more than anything else in the world. They had found it in abundance inside the moon’s core: soft cheese, hard cheese, blue cheese, yellow cheese.
They used cheese for everything: food, clothing, medicine, art.
They also shared their cheese with a hidden society of moon cheese lovers who dwelled in a hidden valley in the Himalayan mountains on Earth.
The mice had discovered the valley centuries ago, when they had sent a scouting mission to Earth. They had found a group of humans who lived in isolation from the rest of the world, and who had a passion for cheese.
The mice had befriended them and established a trade agreement: they would send them cheese from the moon, and they would receive books, music, and other cultural items from Earth.
The mice and the humans had kept their relationship secret from the rest of the world, fearing persecution and exploitation.
The professor and Mr. Boneair were amazed by this revelation.
They reached the palace, where Whiskermyer showed them his library, his laboratory, his art gallery, and his cheese cellar.
They spent hours talking with him and learning about his history, his science, his philosophy, and his cheese.
They also tasted some of his cheese, and found it delicious.
They felt a bond of friendship and respect with Remy and his people.
They decided to stay in Lunaria for a while, to learn more about their culture and their secrets.
Upon returning to earth they decided to visit the hidden valley on and to meet the mystical moon cheese lovers and see their way of life.
And they never left and lived happily ever after.
