Night of the Wolf
Born 1996, F, from Abbotsford, BC, CanadaPant, pant.
“This isn't good! The gash on my leg has opened!” Snap! A twig under my foot broke in two, and I tripped and fell flat on my face.
“I can't see anything!” My breath was short and raspy. Clouds of mist escaped my mouth each time I exhaled. It was going to be a dark, cold, lonely night. Now, you probably want to know how I got here.
Six days before...
“Kids! We are going camping!” My dad shouted throughout the house. A great moan rattled the house as we all thought about the bad parts of camping. Never-the-less, we piled into the car and drove away to the campsite. I have to admit, after all that complaining, I actually enjoyed myself. Until tonight, of course. My family and I started to pack up when my littlest sister came up to me, crying.
“I lost my dolly in the bushes over there!” She sobbed. I sighed and told mom and dad I would look for it. I ended up travelling too deep into the woods to the point where I got lost, and couldn't turn back. After that I got a gash on my leg from a pointed stick.
And that's what happened...
I pulled myself to my feet and continued on. Howls of hungry wolves entered my mind. As I stumbled onward, I came to an open cliff where the moon and stars shone brightly. I stopped inches before the drop. There is where my knees buckled.
“This is it. I can't go any further.” I started to close my eyes and fade away. A low growl then made me come back to my senses. Through weary eyes, I saw a large wolf with gleaming golden eyes, and a silver coat that seemed to shine under the moon. It was three times my size and probably weighed just as much as well.
“Hello wolf.” I thought. “Have you come here to eat me?” It stepped closer and closer, bearing its fangs. When it was no more than a hair away from me, it began to open its mouth. I closed my eyes, waiting for the killing blow. But when it didn't come after a while, I opened my eyes. A wolf-woman figure stood outlined in the moon. I could not see clearly though, for my vision failed me. Off in the distance, a gunshot sounded. Blinking and opening my eyes again, the wolf-woman was gone, and the silver wolf once again stood before me.
“Over there!” voices yelled. The wolf stared straight at me, with a calm expression, before taking flight. After that, I passed out. I awoke in a hospital, with my family surrounding me, asking me a thousand questions. But all I could remember was the silver wolf.

04/13/2021Wow! That was very intense! I have had hairy experiences while camping. Thank God nothing like that ever happened to me! Only hairy experience that I had was coming face to face twice with bears and being chased by a chihuahuah. The second was more terrifying than the first.
