The Cryptic Riddle

The fierce wind made her tremble. To save herself, she tried to find a shelter. She saw a cottage. It exuded an aura of darkness. She mustered up her courage and went inside. Its old walls were adorned with peculiar signs and symbols. Suddenly, she saw a strange riddle written on one of the walls.
It was:
In shadows, I live, yet light I find.
Solve this riddle, or forever be blind.
I visit people at night and vanish with the day.
Who am I? Find me, or forever you will stay.
As she read this riddle, the door and windows of the cottage closed viciously. The only light that illuminated the cottage was the moonlight coming from a small hole in the roof.
Victoria's fear grew. Sweat dripped from her forehead, and her eyes widened. She pondered hard to find the answer but couldn't do so.
Days passed, and with each passing day, the creepiness of the cottage increased. The walls whispered. The shadows danced around her. She was on the verge of losing her sanity when a grey-coloured monstrous hand tried to grab her neck. Suddenly, her trembling lips uttered, "The moon."
As soon as she said this, she heard a loud shriek.
Out of fear, she collapsed. When she woke up, she found herself at her home.
