Broken Arms

By Cris
Child, M, from Monterey, Mexico

Once upon a time in a quiet town called Willowville, there was a regular kid named Jake. He liked video games, reading comics, and playing with his friends. Everything was going fine until some bullies, led by a boy named Brad, started making Jake's days not so happy.
These bullies thought it was fun to bother Jake. They said mean things in the hallways, took his lunch, and even spread rumors about him. Jake felt sad and didn't know what to do.
One day, when Jake came home with a sad face and a hurt eye, his dad, Tom, who used to be a boxer, noticed. Tom didn't like seeing Jake so upset. He decided to help Jake learn how to stand up for himself. Tom thought it wasn't only about being strong and feeling confident inside.
So, they turned a corner of their garage into a pretend boxing ring. Jake wore old, big boxing gloves, and Tom taught him how to move and punch. They spent a lot of time practicing together. Tom told Jake about being disciplined, using the right moves, and most importantly, keeping calm and not getting too upset.
Week by week, Jake changed from a shy kid into a strong kid who knew how to box. The training not only made his body strong but also made him feel stronger inside. He learned how to face problems and let out his feelings by punching a big bag.
Then came the big day when Jake faced Brad and the bullies. The schoolyard was buzzing with excitement as they got ready to see what would happen. When the bell rang, Jake remembered everything his dad taught him. He moved around, ducked, and threw quick punches that surprised the bullies. They didn't expect Jake to be so strong!
But here's the shocking part: after the fight, Brad, who was feeling a bit embarrassed, held out his hand to Jake. It was like a signal for saying sorry. In that moment, something special happened. The bullies realized Jake wasn't just a target, and Jake found out that Brad had his problems too.
After the fight, Tom, Jake's dad, encouraged him to make friends with Brad and the others. Jake wasn't sure about it, but he decided to try. To everyone's surprise, they said sorry to each other, and the bullies started seeing Jake in a new way.
As days went by, something cool happened. Jake and Brad became friends! They shared their stories and realized they weren't so different after all. The pretend boxing ring in the garage turned into a place where they learned important things about being kind, understanding, and facing tough stuff together.
