Ruby was one of the most gorgeous girls you've ever seen. She had green eyes like a priceless emerald. Her eyes shined as if that was their only purpose, her hair was magnificent, deep black curls that went up to her shoulders, and not only was she beautiful on the outside but on the inside too. She was the kindest, funny, empathetic girl you'll ever meet.
She also had a peculiar life, she was a princess, heir to the throne, but she had to keep it a secret. When she was two years old, her father was murdered, making her next in line for the throne. Since no one knew who had killed her father; she was sent into hiding. Ruby stayed with her uncle and his daughter. When Ruby lived with them, something was unusual. She didn't like it, especially Riley, who was two years older than Ruby, and treated Ruby awful. Telling her she was ugly or dumb or that her parents didn't want her and that's why she had to live with them. Ruby's uncle didn't help either, always comparing Riley to Ruby, making Riley even madder. You see, Riley wanted to be Ruby. She needed to be her. All she wanted was some attention, some love, but everyone hated her, but they loved ruby. Luckily for Ruby and Riley, she wasn't there for long.
When Ruby turned 14, she received a letter that stated; “my dear Ruby, it pains me to had to let you go. But you're safer, and you didn't grow up in the spotlight. With all that pressure. You are my pride and joy, but unfortunately before we can officially meet again. you have to go to princess boarding school. I've talked it out with your uncle, he understands and to make sure you're not alone your cousin will go with you too, don't worry Ruby you'll be fine. — love mom” Ruby started pacing through her room, her mother hadn't talked to Ruby since she was two. Then out of nowhere, she decides to tell her all this. It didn't make sense, and just because her mom said it didn't mean she believed it. Why should she, her mother, abandoned her.
When the time came for Ruby to go to princess school. She was a little excited it would be different and at least she had more opportunity to avoid Riley as much as possible. She had packed all her stuff, but she felt like she was leaving something significant, something she needed. But she didn't have time for that. It was time to leave the house.
When she arrived, she saw a giant school, it almost looked like the castle she used to live in. It was a light pink with a blue ceiling. At the entrance, it had an enormous fountain in the middle, it spewed crystal clear water. Inside the school, there were chandeliers and lockers. The halls had purple curtains all over the windows and a magenta carpet on the floor. Ruby loved that.
When walking in the halls, Riley shoved Ruby to the floor, throwing her aside saying
“Don't get in my way” Then out of nowhere, Ruby saw a tan hand above her.
“Hi, I'm William Jackson, but you can call me Will,” Will said.
“Hi I'm Ruby” Ruby stated.
“What are you doing?” he asked her,
“oh, I don't know, I just threw myself to the floor”.
Will chuckled and said, “She is funny too.'' Then two people appeared out of nowhere. “these are my friends Grace and Nico”
“Nice to meet you, '' she said, still staring at Will's eyes. He had golden eyes, not brown but golden somehow. He had brown hair, but there was something in his eyes that made Ruby fall over heels for him. Nico could tell that they were both in love, but left it to his best friend to be this oblivious, before Nico could finish his thoughts, Ruby was called into the principal’s office.
“Hi, where can I sit?”, asked Ruby.
“Take a seat in the white chair, the principal will be here in a couple of minutes!”, said assistant Claire. Ruby took a seat nervously. The place looked very elegant, white chairs, wooden desks, tall magenta curtains, and abstract sculptures. Not at all like the pink and purple castle.
“Hello, you must be Ruby!”, said Marissa, the principal. “Come, stand up. Let me take you to your room. You will be assigned to Dahlia hall!”, said Marissa as they walked up the stairs. “Here we are, Room 44! This used to be my room when I was younger” Ruby walked in. The room was colorful. It had two desks and two big windows. You could see the beautiful blue lake on the other side of the school; one side of the room was all decorated pink with throw pillows and posters, I loved it. “I'll leave you two girls alone”, the principal said as she exited the room.
“Um Ruby right” said Grace
“Yeah,” Ruby said. A few seconds later, the girls talking about boys, especially too boys by the name will and Nico. They were bonding and laughing, they had become best friends.
The next day was the first day of princess classes. Ruby wondered what she would learn. It couldn't be very different from her homeschooling, her mother had provided math, science, Spanish, French, checking banking and your usual princes classes. Ruby's first class was etiquette it was an all-girls class where she learned the correct dress code for a princess and all about table manners for the day, next she had economics where she learned how to debate, and she has them homework of a 2-page-long paper of the country they were princess of politics. As Ruby walked to her last class of the day, she bumped into someone. “Ruby,” he said,
“Will, hi, do you know where dance class is?” Ruby asked
“Yeah I have it too” and would respond as they walked together someone was watching them, someone far away where the girls couldn't see.
After Ruby class, she decided to go to her dorm and sleep. She was tired and just as she fell asleep, she heard an alarm go off. It was the fire alarm! There was a fire in her room. So Ruby ran to the other side of the room faster than a cheetah. Just before she opens the door, Will barges in and accidentally throws Ruby to the floor.
Not seeing her, he yells, “Ruby, Ruby, are you here?”
“Down here” Ruby responds,
“Why are you down there?” Will asks back
“Oh, I don't know, I just threw myself to the floor” ruby states back.
Will chuckled, “come on, we have to leave before the fire spreads.” As they run outside the room, firefighters enter the room, putting out the fire. All of a sudden, Will's face is all red, and then he kisses Ruby on the lips. Ruby was traumatized. She left running, she felt amazing! Her first kiss, with the boy he likes the most on this entire planet, it all felt like a breathtaking dream! After leaving the room, she had lost Will. He had left, but Ruby was still in shock.
Ruby ran to the hall and found Grace, “we need to talk, right now!,” said Ruby as she pulled Grace's arm. They both sprinted fast to the girl's bathroom. “You won't believe what just happened!,” said Ruby!
“What, tell me!” responded Grace.
“I was in our dorm when suddenly everything just lit up in fire, I didn't know what to do, so I started panicking but then the greatest thing happened! I was there not knowing what to do, so ran trying to leave, but then Will entered the room and kissed me! I don't know how this day could get any better! Except for the fact, our room is burned.” Grace and Ruby left the bathroom with a big smile on their faces, but when they closed the door, someone came out of one of the stalls,
“Ugh, I can't believe this! Even fire can't separate those two! Will is mine so that little Ruby has to watch out! I can't believe it! How did she not die?”
A couple of minutes passed, firefighters were already upstairs putting out the fire. Ruby and Grace were walking outside, Ruby couldn't stop smiling! She couldn't look at Will's face without turning red! Suddenly the firefighters walked out, they had something in their hands like Ruby's favorite shirt, Ruby's stuffed animal llama, and some other things that they could rescue!
“Thank you so much! You don't know how much this means to me!”, said Ruby.
“You are very welcome, young lady! And actually we would like to talk with the principal! Do you by any chance know where she is?”, said the firefighter.
“Yes, she is down that path to the left!”, Ruby said.
About an hour passed, Ruby and Grace were still outside just for precaution. “May I please get everyone's attention!” said Mrs. Marissa. “I would like to make an announcement, I just spoke to the firefighters, and they told me that this fire was not an accident, someone left a burning piece of wood on dorm number 44, which is Ruby Smith and Grace Miller room. When figured out who committed this crime, that person will be arrested and kicked out of school. The security team will check the cameras, and we will figure out who did it!” Ruby stopped smiling,
“Someone tried to kill me and Grace, and they probably wouldn't stop now” Ruby thought. On the other side of the room, a worried face, Riley was there. After the announcement, the principal called Ruby
“Ruby please stay”, “you'll be allowed in your room again but, be extra careful and if you feel you know who did this don't be scared to tell me”
“I will, don't worry.”
“Grace!” Ruby called as she looked for her roommate to tell her the news the principal had said. But when Riley saw her room, she had to open the door. She needed to see what had survived and what hadn't. As Ruby walked through the room, a tear fell down her eye. But something had caught Ruby's eye, something under the bed. When she looked down she saw it, and she knew who's phone was, but Ruby needed more evidence, so Ruby looked all over the room and found a piece of a Riley shirt, and she needed to tell the principal. As she left the room, she was Nico
“oh, hi Nico”
“hey, something wrong” asked Nico
“I think I know how started the fire can you come with me to tell her” Ruby asked
“sure” said Nico.
As they walked in the hallway, someone came jumping at them. Thankfully, she only scratched Nico's arm. But it was bleeding, so they ran in the hallway they didn't dare to talk, scared that Riley would catch them, but then they recognized the room in front it was Nico and will's room
“ I forgot the key inside, will would have to open the door” Nico whispered
“I'll distract her and then run, you better close the door quickly.” Ruby said,
“Are you sure?” Nico asked Ruby, nodded and ran in the other direction, catching Riley's eye. “This can be easy if you give up!” exclaimed. As Riley ran in Ruby's direction, she cut a long line in her leg. Making it harder for her to run, but all of a suddenly, falls to the floor and sees Riley looking over her.
