There once was a place called perfect land. A land that has a lot of unknown, for the people inhabiting it, and the people outside of it. Located in the middle of the ocean, this big city was thought to have been impossible to accomplish, until it became real. The people that inhabit this land have no idea how they even got here. Were they born here? Did they get kidnapped and taken here? Did they just disappear? Many people theorized how these people got put here, but nobody knows a real answer. As time went on, people on the outside found the location of this mysterious land. Many people rushed toward this land just to see what it was all about. Shockingly, nobody could enter. People from all around the world came to the location of this great city just for them to be completely blocked out. Many tried getting in by various methods, but there had seemed to be a forcefield around this perfect city. When people attempted to get in, they were blocked off and it would act as a solid wall. When people tried to force themselves in, they would sort of “rubber band” off the wall and go the opposite direction. This city almost looked fake from a far, because of its perfect square shape.
The population of this city was a nice, even, 50,000. The land of perfection was gridded into sectors. The houses and apartments were all throughout the city, and any other buildings which were mainly goods stores, were put at the perfect no center of the city. The stores were equally spaced out from each other and were easy to access for anybody. 25,000 of the mechanical living (robots) inhabited this city with the humans. Each of the robots were labeled and named with an R followed by a number. Every robot has a unique number and there are 25,000 total numbers since there are 25,000 robots.
R09722 was the label on Ed’s robot that was in his quarters.
“Coke with a hint of vanilla please” Ed requests to his robot. The robot instantly grabs a glass and puts it in its mechanical arm and then pours a glass of carbonated water. The robot then hands Ed the glass and injects the syrup into the drink and the robot makes a soft whirr. R09722 then swirls the drink until the coke is made. Ed takes a sip and gives it back to R09722.
“Here you go Rob, ” Ed Chipperly says. Ed likes calling his robot “Rob” because he is around it all the time and Ed has always liked giving people nicknames especially if he is close to them. Fred has been Ed’s roommate ever since they have been in perfect land. Ed and Fred have known eachother for as long as they can remember, but they know that they met each other once they became roommates. Fred gestures Rob,
“Shoot me a glass, please?” Rob follows accordingly and Fred downs the entire glass and finishes with a “ahhhh” Ed was always out of the apartment for at least a few hours of each day just curious at the waters beyond this very land. Ed and Fred’s apartment was apartment #9722 obviously, since that was Rob's code name. Their apartment was also directly on the edge where the invisible wall was located that separates them from the waters beyond. Ed would sit on the edge some days and wonder what is beyond. Ed has always been a curious person all throughout his life. Even from the time that he can remember being on this land. Ed would sometimes touch the wall and feel it vibrate back as a reaction. Ed would sit and watch as the invisible wall would ripple, making it seem as though the water is rippling, and this would make Ed happy. Ed was a simple person. Ed left the apartment for his daily dose of the invisible walls. Ed wanted to try a different spot today, and he thought it would be cool to visit one of the corners of this squared land.
“See you later Fred” Ed announced.
“I'll catch up with you man,” Fred remarked. Ed would take Fred with him some days, but either way whether he was alone or not, he loved looking at the waters beyond. Once Ed arrived, he kindly asked R09000 for a light cushion for him to have for the ground. R09000 promptly zoomed to the center of perfect land and in no longer than 2 minutes, his cushion had arrived. Ed sat down and watched the waters beyond wondering how it would feel to be in such great waters. Ed closed his eyes and imagined for a while. The wiring of the robots around him turned into a nice white noise which he had thought of the ocean sounding. Ed started to imagine a slight gust of wind right in between his toes. Ed imagined the wind gradually increasing and decreasing every so often. Ed opened his eyes, but oddly he still felt the breeze. Ed wasn’t imagining anymore. Ed inspected the exact corner of the wall even closer, noticing the tiniest gap in the wall in which it seemed to be clearer than the clear or rather, invisible wall itself. Ed couldn’t believe his eyes. Ed touched all around the wall and as it vibrated, the “hole” in the wall would flap back and forth. All of Ed’s life, he had never seen something like this. An imperfection. Ed’s curiosity could not be contained. Ed could not hold back even if he tried.
Ed guided his hand toward the opening, and as it started to vibrate, there was a loud bang, followed by a ringing noise, almost like an alarm was sounding. Ed couldn’t tell the source of all of this sound, but the next thing he saw was an army of robots racing down the street, and he frantically tried to pull up on the opening. Ed was making the hole wider and wider, and right as his foot exited perfect land, he was virtually sucked out of this “perfect” land. The last thing Ed heard was “imperfection imperfection imperfection” until all sound was muted, since he escaped. Ed couldn’t believe his eyes. Ed was looking at the ocean in which he couldn’t ever come close to for all of these years. As the sun started to set, and the rays were being reflected off of the collapsing waves, Ed ran out to the water. Ed was so happy he finally got to be in the very ocean he used to always sit and look at. Ed was now back on Earth. The Earth he never got to experience, yet he was born here.
