A Day With Mowgli

Summer vacations were the most amazing and joyful part of my junior high school days. As the days in April were passing by, the enthusiasm was getting higher every day, though there was a week for the vacations to start, we already started planning for the holidays. All of the hostel boys were so happy at that moment, because it was the major holiday package from schools which allowed every hosteller to get back to his family and spend some quality time with the family. Even some of us started doing our holiday homework before the actual vacation started.

Finally the month of May occurred, probably the best month in the year for hostel students, because every year when May starts it brings immense happiness to the school students. So as the vacation started I returned back home. It was amazing when I was warmly welcomed by all family members. That was the time when I realized the advantage of a hosteller over the day scholar, because a day scholar can never get that hospitality when he gets back home after school. It was such an amazing feeling for me.

After spending a day with family, I joined my local friends. We used to play cricket and other games. The whole day was like a moment because we never realised how fast it went. I guess those were the best days of my life.

A WARM AND WINDY NOON OUT THERE AT RAJU’S UNCLE'S GARAGE
His uncle’s abandoned garage was our private friends club. We had a carom board and the other indoor games there along with some comic’s. While we were playing carom, Raju walked in with a book in his hand and all stood up in excitement and inquired anxiously about the book. Raju later told us that it was “The Jungle Book”. I took that book from Raju, as it was very fascinating for me to read about the jungle tales. Also, I used to watch these tales on cartoon channels, and sometimes I used to meet the characters in my own imaginative world. Mowgli was our hero those days.

While I was reading the book Raju came and tried to take it away from me. While we both were struggling for the book I got my head hit on the door, and I don’t remember what happened next.

The next moment I woke in a dark jungle and found myself lying against a rock. Then suddenly I heard some loud voices behind the herbs, someone was coming out from a dark image. As the shadow came to light I figured out that it was none other than SHER KHAN. His long canines were frightening me. Out he came, close to me, and said “another human in my territory... u have to pay for this with your life.” He came growling and jumped towards me. Suddenly someone hit him and pushed me away from him. It was MOWGLI, my hero. SHER KHAN started bleeding and decided to move away.

I said thank you to MOWGLI for saving my life. He raised his hand in response, and he started jumping in excitement because the presence of another human made him so happy. I also joined him. Suddenly my foot slipped over the rock and I fell into the water.

In reality it was RAJU sprinkling water over my face. And I was told later I fainted and was screaming MOWGLI while unconscious. I smiled and then snatched the book and ran away. Sometimes your imaginations really take you to a different world.
