My Life According to Meow
Born 1998, F, from Waterloo, Iowa, United StatesMy Life According to Meow

When I was only four weeks old, I was dumped off with my three siblings. We had no mother to feed our hungry bellies. We were scared, homeless, and at such a young age, unable to care for ourselves.
Unlike you, I have four legs. I also have whiskers, and while you have hands, I have paws. My name is Milky. I am a cat. This is a story of my curiosity as a cat.
It all started one day when my three siblings and I were left at the humane society. Terrified, all three of us huddled together in the corner of a cage. Everyone was banging on our cage frightening us.
One day a girl came. She twiddled her fingers in our cage. She talked to us softly and comforting. Then a lady comes which I assume is her mom, (and later found out is her mom.)
“I want them!” The young girl begged.
“Remember, we only can choose one cat or kitten.” Her mom replied.
We were only four weeks old! We needed someone to feed us. So the girl and her mom fostered us for two weeks. They bottle fed us, taught us how to eat hard food, use our litter box, and much more. Finally, the two weeks were over and they had to choose one of us. The cat they chose was me! I missed my brother and sisters but I know they have a great home now.
Me being a kitten, I was very frisky, adventurous, and wild. But most of all… curious! I absolutely loved getting in the garbage can. One day I got in the garbage after my owners Sierra and Celeste finished eating tomato soup. I was on a mission to find the soup can. I dove into the garbage can without Sierra and Celeste knowing. I soon found the can so I put my head in it and licked away! As soon as my tiny belly was full I tried pulling my head out, but couldn’t! MY HEAD WAS STUCK IN THE SOUP CAN! I meowed louder than I have ever before. Sierra came running and as soon as she saw me she popped the can off my head.
“Don’t ever go in the garbage can again!” She scolded me. As she said this she angrily pointed her finger at me. After she said that she scooped me up and cuddled me closely. As she cuddled me she scratched me behind my ear just how I like it. I still get in the garbage can today.
Another crazy thing I did when I was a curious kitten was get stuck to the Christmas tree. It was Christmastime and Sierra and Celeste were putting up Christmas decorations. When they got the tree up, I was exhilarated! I ran up the tree and climbed everywhere!
“Milky! No!” They both yelled in synch.
I knew I was being a bad boy so I tried jumping down. The only problem was I was not falling down. I was dangling and it hurt! Now, I am a fluffy long-haired Maine Coon cat, and what happened was the hair on my butt got stuck to the Christmas tree! Celeste quickly picked me up and untangled my fur from the tree.
“Milky,” Celeste said. “Don’t climb the Christmas tree!” she reprimanded. Even though I was being scolded I was relieved to be off that tree!
A year had passed and I was growing up. I was now one year old. On a bright and sunny day Sierra and Celeste came home with another animal. Everyday when my owners came home I would greet them at the door. But on this particular day they brought home a creature with white fluffy fur and a tongue hanging from its mouth.
“This is Macy. She is my aunt’s dog. We will be taking care of her,” Sierra said to me. I learned that Macy was a curious animal too. We wanted to see how many treats were in the box, so we broke into the treat box and ate all of the goodies up! I thought I wouldn’t like her, but on that day was the day I found my best friend.
I love being outside. I try to get out whenever I can.
“Don’t go outside Milky!” my owners would say. I never listened.
I snuck outside one day when my owners were leaving. When I was outside I heard a screech noise. I look up to see an animal with wings, a beak, and feathers. It was coming down to get me! I ran and hid under the deck. When I was sure the animal was gone I came out from under the deck and the animal pecks me. It was very painful. I look up and the animal pecks me in the eye. Then I hear a car door slam. This scares the animal away. I run to my owners.
“Milky, I didn’t know you were outside… Oh my! Your eye is hurt!” Sierra yelped. They get back in the car with Sierra gripping me tightly. We stop at a dreadful place I remember… the vet. Sierra carries me inside with Celeste walking quickly in the lead. Water was spilling from Sierra’s face.
“Oh Milky, I love you.” Sierra whispers in my ear.
This was the only time I ever liked the vet, they saved my life. What ended up happening was I had to have surgery and they took my eye out. But guess what? I am fine and back to acting like myself. Thanks to my wonderful owners! I know I should listen to my owners, and believe me I try! But hey, I am a curious cat and that is me!
