The Black Out
Jamie was sixteen years old and had went off for a smoke as she usually did. It was only ever so often that her mother and some of her friends warned her of the hazards of smoking.
"You know you ain't gone make it smokin' all that crap in here Jamie," her mother Angie would say. "Mom, why are you and old dad always bringing all that drama and trash to me?, hell I deal with enough of it at school!," said Jamie angrily. Angie didn't say anything back, she just went in her room and slammed the door and all the windows shook from the impact. Now Jamie was left alone in the living room, staring in the direction her mom had went when she noticed a figure at the end of the hallway. The ground came rushing up to her and everything went pitch black.
"Jamie, wake up". "Are you okay?" "What uhhh... what's going on?", said Jamie dizzily. She woke up to find herself laying down on the big brown sofa in the living room. Leaning over her was her best friend Lauren. Lauren was your typical blondie with long blonde hair and full dark eye lashes over aqua blue eyes.
"Oh Jamie, what did I tell you?", said Lauren. "What the heck are you talking about?", Jamie replied. "Girl don't act like you don't know. "Take a look in the mirror, you're way too young and pretty to be smoking cause' I can smell it on you.", Lauren said.

Chapter Two
The Late Night Scare
Later on that night when all the lights were out in the Smith's house, Jamie was awake and staring out the window. "I don't know how it happened", she thought. The figure at the end of the hallway.
"It couldn't have been mom and I know I saw it". She got up and went into the bathroom discretely because her mother hated when she got up in the middle of the night.
"Got damn it girl, you got one more time to get up this late at night in the dark and scare me", Angie would say. Now Jamie stood in the colorful pink and brown bathroom staring back at her relection in the mirror. She remembered what Lauren had said about her being pretty and about stopping the smoking habits. She looked at her eyes and how they had deep dark circles under them. At how at age sixteen, she really looked around the age of twenty or maybe even thirty. Her long hair fell over her shoulders like a chocolate waterfall. At the top, it created a bang over her forehead.
"This is getting to be an addiction", she said momentarily. "I can't let this over come me". She turned around to exit the bathroom. And screamed.

Chapter Three
You Scared Me
"Ahhh, oh my God!" Standing at the door to her bedroom was another tall dark figure. With her heart pounding so hard till her chest hurt, Jamie said in a nervous voice, "Who's there?" The figure just stood there in the dark. Her heart is beating in her mouth now. "I said who's there?", she said angrily. The tall figure stood there staring at her with wide broad shoulders. It almost looked as if it were an actual person right there. About to wet her pants with overwhelming fear, Jamie approached the figure. The dark hooded figure grabbed Jamie and wrapped its arms around her.
"Let me go you idiot", she siad in a panicky voice.
"Jamie calm down it's me, Mathew".
"Mathew you stupid idiot, get off me. How did you get in my house?"
Mathew let go of her and stood back. "I got the key from under the mat at the back door". Jamie kicked him right at his ankle.
"You got the keys my 'a', I mean, you could have gotten arrested for breaking and entering or something like that!" Mathew pretended to be hurt from the kick to the ankle. He's the type of guy you honestly know can fight and is built up like an average wrestler complete with a six pack. He has black eyes with short wavy black hair.
"Oh whatever", he said. "I could have but I didn't." "I mean, come on Jamie, it's the thirteenth, you know we always play jokes on each other on friday the thirteenth." Jamie hated to admit it but he was right. They did play tricks on each other on the thirteenth.
"Yeah but I've already been tricked earlier today stupid", she said. For a moment, Mathew looked surprised.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Four
The Explanation
"What do you mean you've already been tricked?", he said. "I mean somebody was in the house today dressed in all over black and when I looked at it I fainted."
"Lauren came by and helped comfort me but she left soon after." She looked at Mathew for an explanation. He didn't seem to know what she was talking about, "You mean a dark figure or ghost made you faint?", asked Mathew. Jamie was starting to get annoyed.
"Yes that's what I said. Do you know anything about what it could have been?", she asked. Mathew thought about it for a minute. His forehead wrinkled in concentration.
"Maybe this house has an evil spirit in it. You know, like on those television shows when they have to do an exorcism?"
"Mathew," Jamie said, "I don't think there is some type of evil spirit in someone in this house and it's certainly not in me. I mean, come on, this isn't the Exorcism of Emily Rose." With that said, Mathew left and went home and she was left alone again. She crawled back into bed, only this time to find herself lost in deep sleep.

Chapter Five
Help Me
It was dark, wet and moldy smelling. She turned the corner only to be confronted by a long, creepy old house.
"I'm lost, get me out of here." Cry no more, at this place no one can hear you. She walked up to the front door past ruined flowers and half dead plants. Spider webs made it almost impossible to open the door. She turned the knob and stepped in. On the inside, she brushed all the dirt off her shoulders, which was also now in her hair. "Got dang it", she said. "Messed up my hair." Now, standing there she looked around at the place. The home looked so familiar to her but if only she could remember.
"Hey!" At the sound of the voice Jamie jumped and winced. The voice sounded so harsh and bitter. She turned around and faced him. It was the one and only cold hearted man with two horns and a tail. Everything went up in red hot scorching flames.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Six
Exhausting Day
Beep. Beep-Beep-Beep. Beep.
"What is that noise?" Beep... so annoying. Make it shut up. Jamie woke up dazed and slammed the top button of the alarm clock. It was six o'clock a.m.
"Uhhh... gotta get up for school." And with that Jamie was out of bed and getting dressed. she decided a pair of dark blue skinny jeans matched with a silvery tank top with glitter on it. She slipped on a pair silver sandals to top it all off. Book bag thrown over one shoulder and a black and white handbag in her hand, she left the house for the one-hundreth time to go to school, literally. She walked to school down the street and turned the corner to come face to face with the school she'd been going to for the past two years, Jackson High School. She walked up the stairs and went through the entrance doors at the front. She turned right and stopped at locker number one sixty nine to grab some books and a binder. Also coming to her locker was Lauren who was wearing white shorts with a black shirt and flip-flops. "Hey Jamie what's up?"
"Oh hey Lauren I'm kind of exhausted because I didn't get much sleep and I had this weird dream. "Well with the way you're talking about bad dreams and how you fainted the other day, you probably need some help for real, I'm just sayin." "No Lauren I don't think I need any help but thanks for the advice." Jamie left and went to her other classes and when she was in geometry fourth period class, everyone heard a sound coming from her direction. Her phone had went off in the middle of class.
"Miss Smith would you like to share with the class who's calling you?", said Mrs. Buckingham. "No ma-am, I'm sorry I'll turn my phone off", Jamie said with her face turning red. The whole class exploded with laughter.

Chapter Seven
The Walk Home
On the short walk back to her house, Jamie was greeted by Mathew.
"Hey Jamie wait up!" "Oh hey what's up Mat?" Mathew hesitated for a moment. "Look I - I just wanted to say I'm sorry about the other night.", Mathew stuttered. Jamie was a little surprised at his apology. She stopped walking and turned to him.
"Mat it's okay, I mean we did agree to try to scare each other."
"Yeah you're right, thank you Jamie, you're a great friend. Do you uh... Do you want me to walk you home?" "Yeah sure, thanks." They walked in silence all the way to her house. When the two got to the house Jamie noticed her dad wasn't home but her mom was. "Thanks Mat, I'll see you tomorrow I guess." "Yeah I'll see you." "Hey uhh... wait." "What?" Mathew leaned in and kissed her on the cheek. "Bye Mathew, you're an awesome friend, really." Jamie opened the front door and stopped dead in her tracks.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Eight
The Surprise
She stepped inside and took a look around. The house was in a complete devastated mess. "Oh my God." She walked in and her jaw dropped immediately. There, in the corner of all the mess and clutter, was her mother lying face down on the hardwood floor. Jamie threw her book bag down and ran to her mother. Keeling beside her, she yelled "Mom, are you okay?"
"Get Out." Angie's voice was not her own but that of a mad man. "Oh my God mom what's going on?"
"I said GET OUT!" The voice was so evil Jamie backed away into a corner and started crying. Then her mother got up and Jamie looked up at her. Her hair was messed up and knotted into black curly tangles. Her eyes were black with no white showing at all. She looked like the true definition of a witch. All of a sudden everything happened at once. Jamie started screaming in terror and Angie started yelling in agony while throwing things. And at that same instance the door slammed open.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Nine
Oh My Goodness
Her dad walked in and immediately went to try and calm down Angie. Another man stepped in behind her dad. Jamie recognized him immediately. The priest from the christian church they go to. He was holding a cross and what looked like a mini bottle of holy water.
"Dad what's going on?" He looked at his daughter and motioned her to come foward.
"Honey the priest and I both agree that something is haunting your mother." "Oh no." "No, no, no." "This can't be happening." "Lewis, can you please tell me what happened?" Lewis sighed with noticeable tiredness. "Come outside, I have a lot of explaining to do. they moved out of the house and onto the porch. Jamie sat in the rocking chair on the front porch. Lewis sat in the one beside her. "You know the old house back in the country where them little bad kids have been sneaking in over the past few years?"
"Yeah you mean my grandma's house that she used to stay in." Lewis hesitated for a moment. "Well the truth is your grandmother was killed in that house by an evil, evil man and he tried to set her on fire but ended up setting the whole house on fire." Jamie almost screamed again.
"So that would explain that weird dream I had", she thought. "And they're all runnin' back to that house tryin' to come in contact with that man's spirit."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Ten
Back To The Old Ways
"But me and your father are almost certain that spirit is in your mother right now." Jamie looked at Lewis hoping he would change that last statement. But she saw nothing but pure honesty in those dark brown eyes. All of a sudden, the front door came open and the priest came stepping out. "I got her all tied up but she's still acting kind of insane." All three of them headed back into the house. They went through all the clutter and into the master bedroom upstairs. There, tied up to the bed, was her mother trying to desperately get loose from the cords that held her in place. But what made Jamie not want to take another step in the room was the way her mother actually looked. Her hair was the same way it was when she first saw her but her face was a sick stomach turning pale color. She had cuts and big dark bruises all over her arms and legs.
Lewis walked slowly to the side of the bed and leaned over her. He raised his right hand slowly with the cross at the tip of his fingers. He spoke the words slowly as to be clearly understood. "I command you to leave the body of this innocent woman right now! You demon, have no right to be here torturing the soul of an innocent human being, in Jesus name, Amen." Angie started screaming and kicking when all of a sudden the lights went off and came back on. Everyone got so quiet they could hear their own ear drums ringing. Then Lewis went around the bed and sprinkled holy water on everyone including Angie. "Leave her alone now!" Everyone went quiet again only this time Angie's black eyes rolled into the back of her head.
Later on that day, her mom was sent to the hospital for treatment of the cuts and bruises. She was released the next day and back to normal again. Mathew called to see if everything was okay. Jamie told him about the incident. "Wow, I totally told you an evil spirit was in your house." "Yeah well I just never thought anything like that would ever even happen. Oh and have you heard from Lauren?" "No but I'm sure she's doing okay compared to you, no offense." The next day when Jamie was at home with her mom and dad, the door bell rang. Lauren and Mathew had come over for a visit. "Hey you guys!" "Hey we just wanted to stop by and see if everything's okay around here", said Lauren. "Yeah everything's still fine so far." They eventually left and Jamie sat down on the sofa and pulled out a cigarette. She smoked while watching a re-run of Family Guy. "Guess things will be better from now on for me, thought Jamie."
