Grandparents
Born 1977, M, from Ap, IndiaIt was a village named mgdl. There lived sai, his wife shivani, with their son naresh and daughter amla. As their daughter was elder she was married to a person from the same village. Then they married his son to radha from the same village. Just after their marriage, no one knew what happened, naresh fell ill and was bedridden. They took him to doctor, hakim, but all in vain. No one was clearly able to detect what happened to naresh. It was a superstitious village, and the village rumor was that some devil someone threw black magic over him. Radha was pregnant. As radha gave birth, naresh died. Sai and Shivani did not know to be happy or sad. After completion of all formalities they came home. At home radha, along with son, was there. Radha said, "I will go to my mothers home for few days along with my son, but the inlaws insisted that she go alone. She left the child and went to her parents house. After a few days she eloped with someone from same village.
Sai and Shivani did not know how to bring up their grand son. Shivani was not getting milk, and the boy was crying out at the top of his voice for milk. She pressed her breasts so that she could get milk. Then Sai got nonvegetarian food so that she may have enough strength and she could give milk. They tried all the ways to make the grandchild not to cry. They took care of him in such a way that both replaced the positions of parents. The boy grew up. As it was, others in the village started to tell the boy what his mother did. The boy developed hatred towards his mother. Everyday the boy used to go to school on the shoulders of sai. When he did not do his homework, his grandmother used to come to school and tell the head master different excuses. They always saw the boy would not be hurt. Everyday after coming from school, his grand father used to give him a glass full of milk and made him drink it by telling him it gives strength.
They never let the boy work. To make it sweet for the boy during festival, shivani used to go for working in the fields of zameendaar and get money to prepare sweet dishes. The boy grew like a flower on a feather. His only work was to eat, drink milk, go to school and come back from school on grandfather's shoulders and study. He was never made to work.
As the boy grew, his friends started to tease him that he comes on shoulder, so the boy started to feel shy and told his grandparents that everyone was laughing at him. Then his Grandfather said they are all jealous that their grandfathers are not taking them to school on their shoulders and that's why they are making fun of him. The boy started to become very much uncomfortable. He was unable to digest their extreme love. He left home without telling anyone.
After he left home and sat in the train, he was not having money. He met a person in the train to whom he narrated his story. The man intoduced his name as anand and this boy introduced himself as krishna. They became friends. As anand was going to join the army, so krishna said he would also join. They went and got selected. There Krishna realised how much he missed his grandparents and how much they loved him.
In the village someone told Sai they saw his grandson. Sai, in fit of anger, went and convinced officials to let his grandson go and took krishna home. Shivani cried by seeing the boy and took promise he shall not repeat the same. Sai called his grand son and said, "See Krishna, this is not the way you do it. If you are interested in working you should have told us, we would have found you a job in the village. You aren't required to work in the military. We have a field. We both shall work on it.
Krishna was guilty of his action and agreed, but could'nt see his grand father work. He said, "grandpa you have become old. From tomorrow onwards don't come to work in the fields." Grandfather got angry and said, "If there is a running competition between you and me, I bet at this age also i can beat you." To this krishna also got angry and said, let's start running. They decided, fixed a target and started to run. After running to a certain distance, krishna couldn't run anymore, but as his grandfather had said he reached the target before krishna and laid on the ground. After a few hours krishna reached the target, saw his grandfather lying on the ground, tried to wake him..... and shockingly found his grandfather had died.
Krishna cried his heart out, and cursed the moment they fixed the race. He felt his grandfather wouldn't have died had they had no race. With lots of love he departed. Krishna could'nt stay in the house after his grandfathers death. Shivani also saw this. Krishna decided to leave back to the army. Grandmother said, yes, go and join.
There was rigorous training for sepoy cadre but it was not a difficult task for krishna. He wanted to come of the guilt that he killed his grandfather. He was working very hard and started to earn. Every time he got his salary he was reminded that his grandfather was not there to enjoy it all. One day one of sepoy bought a telegram in which it was written "Start Immediately, Grandmother dead". Showing the telegram to his higher authorities he was sanctioned leave and krishna immediately rushed to his village. After reaching there he found his grandmother was quite healthy. Krishna was annoyed, and angrily asked what happened. His grandmother replied, "I wanted to see you krishna, i knew it was difficult for you to come, so I sent the telegram." Krishna angrily said not to repeat this type of prank in future. He gave the money he earned to his grandmother. She bought a suit for her grandson, chicken for her grandson, every pie she spent on him only.
After enjoying, krishna once again left. This time tears rolled in the eyes of shivany. She had no option other than her grandson's happiness. After going there krishna became busy, occupied with work. After two months, again a telegram came which read "Grandmother died, start immediately". This time krishna knew it was prank as the last time he saw her she was fit and fine. Though he did not respond, his heart wondered if there was truth in the telegram? This time he could not show the telegram. So he decided to book a truncall. He would call to sarpanch, then sarpanch would find out. Then he would wait at his house to receive his call. Thinking, he called sarpanch, sarpanch said he shall inform him. Krishna understood it was a pranck, being a small village it would be news if anyone died. He became relaxed that nothing happened to his grandmother.
They were all given holidays at the end of the month. Krishna rushed to his village. Went to his home. His heart broke into pieces after knowing that his grandmother died. The telegram was true. Sarpanch said, "I went on some work to the city the day you called me, that time i had come home from city and did not know this news. After going inside the village, I came to know. I was waiting for you to call back, but you did not. All the villagers contributed and did a funeral."
Krishna bought lots of money to his grandmother, but now neither of his grandparents could see krishna earn. As a boy krishna could not not do anything for them, nor now after he grew. He could'nt attend the funeral nor see his grandmother for the last time.....He fell on the ground and cried and cried till tears of blood rolled from his heart, heart broken. .....................................
