The Maid's Harrowing Day

The Maid's Harrowing Day

One peaceful Sunday, I was settling on the sofa comfortably, dozing off. "Ahhhhh!!" A sudden scream jolted me awake, breaking the stillness of the afternoon. I stormed out of the room and searched for the source of the annoying noise. When I glanced out of the window, what i saw made me gasp and forget my rage.

There, at the apartment right next to ours, a woman dressed simply in a grey top was dangling from the eighth floor with both hands holding tightly onto the grille window. I wasted no time in calling for the civil defense team. Fortunately, as I was making the call, the civil defense team informed me that someone had earlier alerted them on this case. I went downstairs to join the crowd that had already gathered and i asked them to think of any ways that we could help the woman. I glanced around to see if something came in handy. A huge mattress appeared in my sight. 'What an opportunity!' I thought to myself, and ran as fast as my feet could carry me towards the recycling bin. Luckily, I was not the only one who spotted the mattress. There were five men trying to carry it. I helped to carry it with great effort. Many people shouted to encourage the woman to let go her hands, but she refused adamantly.

"Gasp!" At this moment, one of the woman's hands slipped and she screamed with all her might in fright. Fortunately, i heard the wail of sirens. Help had arrived.

The civil defense arrived with an ambulance, followed by the police cars. They used the fire engine ladder to bring themselves to the eighth floor, where the woman was hanging precariously. The crowd let out a sigh of relief, for the woman was saved.

The crowd was scattering, I went home too. I was glad that all's well that ends well.
