The Man Behind Santa's Face
Born 1990, M, from Lagos, lagos state, NigeriaI had longed to meet Santa in person for quite long now, because I had this notion that there was something unstraight about Santa. The story I am about to share is an account of my experience with Santa.
Mama took me to the park on a Christmas day to meet Santa. My time to meet Santa came, and I entered. "Merry Xmas!" Santa greeted, but my gaze was fixed point blank at his two tiny glittering eyes. I wanted to see who he was. I'd wished to uncover the man behind Santa's mask; so I waited patiently for the appointed time.
"Come over here son," Santa urged, and so I moved closer to him. "what's your name son?" he again asked.
"I'm Patrick, Patrick Smith," I answered.
"Alright Patrick, make a wish of Santa today and it will be all yours."
His voice was as deep as my father's when he's at the peak of anger, but it was homely though. "I wish to embrace Santa," I demanded.
"Oh, just that? A simple favour. Come along son." Then he opened his arms wide. As I came forth, I made for the helm of his mask, "Oh no, no my boy," he begged, but it was already too late. To my greatest amazement, it was Dad. Dad was the man behind Santa.
