The Stupid Kid
Born 1993, M, from West Jordan, Utah, United States"...I'm sorry. There are just too many errors here. Today is the due date, but I'll tell you what. I'll give you one more day to fix all the spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, and we'll let it slide. Look Todd, I'm only doing this for you because, although you are so far behind, I believe you have potential to pass this class."
"Huh... wha...? Oh yeah, of course. Thanks."
I took my English class project and started toward my seat. As I walked, I could feel the eyes of every student in that room staring at me. Every student that is, except Melissa. I knew that she too was listening in on what the teacher was saying to me, but she was pretending to read a book, to keep me from feeling embarassed. Melissa was the most popular girl in school, and no wonder. She was the kindest, sweetest, and most attractive girl I can ever recall. She always did things to make people's lives better, from joining a school club if it was lacking in numbers, to staying after school to help clean up the auditorium after an assembly.
As I passed her, I tried to look as dignified as possible, but what was the use? Everyone who had the same class as me knew I was a stupid failure at everything, and it didn't help that I had the face of a... well, whatever has a REALLY ugly face. Let's face it, any time someone looks at me in the hall for more than two seconds it's because they're gawking at how dreadful I look.
I sat down as the teacher got everything ready to prepare her lecture. I got ready to zone out. I had pulled an all-nighter trying to get that project of mine done, and I couldn't keep my eyes open much longer. Let's hope that lecture wasn't important.
I woke up to the sound of the bell, signifying the end of the class period. On my desk I discovered a packet with a lot of words and a lot of blanks. Did no one bother to wake me up while the teacher was handing this out?
I walked out of class to head to my next period, though I wasn't really looking forward to this one. No, it wasn't the subject or the teacher, it was because Melissa was in this class as well. And she sat right next to me. We never talk, but it's just incredibly weird and awkward because I'm always looking away whenever I can, and trying not to notice how freaking gorgeous she is whenever I'm working. It works most of the time, but every so often she catches me gawking at her face and I have to look away speedy quick. So yeah, you can probably imagine how it went when the teacher compared one of my essays (really bad) to one of her essays (really good).
"Notice how the writer goes off topic for about six sentences here," (that was mine) "this one however, gets the information spot on, and never goes off topic. It really grabs your attention, too." (You guessed it, that was hers.)
We exchanged awkward glances at each other and wouldn't you know it, my face decided then and there to go bright red and steamy. Melissa sort of did a half smile and gave me a "I feel sorry for you" face, and continued listening. My face didn't return to its original color until the end of the class period when I could go out in the hall for some fresh air.
Now that that was over, I could finally relax because it was lunch time, and I didn't have to do anything during lunch time. I sat in my usual spot in the cafeteria: alone in the corner. That just so happened to also be a spot where I could get a good look at Melissa. How can anyone look that good while eating? I'll never know, but I didn't really care because I was by myself and didn't have to worry about anything.
I observed Melissa saying hi to all of her friends. They laughed and talked a bit, but Melissa wasn't sitting down. That's odd. I then noticed her pointing in my general direction and saying something to her friends. They all looked at me. I quickly looked away and took a giant bite out of my burger.
I glanced back in their direction and saw that Melissa was walking toward me with her tray of food. OH PLEASE NO. As she approached my table she greeted me with a smile and a wave of her hand.
"Hi, you're Todd, right?" she asked, "I think we have first and second period together."
"Oh yeah, that's right. What's up?"... Is what I MEANT to say, but since I had a face-full of food, all I could get out was, "Aw Yaah, Haffsb raaght, wos offp?"
"...Yeah!" She replied with a smile, "do you mind if I sit down?"
That's so like her. Giving up her time with her friends to spend it with someone who has no friends, trying to make them feel better about themselves. Well, it's not really working in this case. It's pretty much a reminder of how much of a dork I am around girls.
She sat her tray down. "So how are you doing today?"
End of part one. Sorry, I wish I could continue, but it's way late and it won't allow me to write anything more anyway. I'll try to finish part two tomorrow!
