Friends
Born 1997, F, from Alpharetta/GA, United StatesThe flower bloomed quite prettily;
it was a sight for all to see.
Hours passed, and from a hole,
out popped a little mole.
Ears raised, he stood and said,
"Winter's gone! The frost has fled!"
In the flower buzzed a bee.
"Hello there! My name's Ronnie!"
"My, in that flower you look snug,"
peeped the mole to the bug.
"Perhaps we'll be friends?" asked the bee.
The mole replied, "I'm BB."
"Okay, let's play hide and seek!
You can hide; I won't peek!"
Ronnie began to quickly fly
while BB counted, paws on eyes.
The mole soon counted to three.
"Ready or not, I'm coming, Ronnie!"
And as BB searched and searched,
something in the shadows lurched.
Near the unsuspecting mole,
a large cat was on patrol.
Claws shot out at small BB;
"You'll make a tasty snack for Dee!"
Eagerly Dee made a trap, caught the mole,
and took her nap.
"Oh, she'll eat me" peeped the mole.
"And I cannot reach my hole!"
For poor BB could not get out.
He cried till tears ran down his snout.
Little by little, Dee awoke;
nearby a frog began to croak.
"Out of luck, mole!" cried the frog.
"If only he could be on my log."
'Voles and moles are welcome guests.
Coming here, that would be best."
Eager BB was all ears.
"Could you get me out of here?"
Alas, the frog answered, "No."
He hopped away, deep in woe.
Now the cat opened one eye.
"Soon, mole, you'll say bye-bye."
"Delicious, this'll be my sup!"
cried the cat as she sprang up.
Fearfully watching, BB heard a buzz.
"I'm coming, you ball of fuzz!"
Ronnie was suddenly there;
he circled through the air.
"I'll save you!" buzzed the bee,
and hope began to fill BB.
Enraged, the bee flew inside the cat's large
nose, but not to hide.
Now, once inside, he stung her nose;
she shook in pain from head to toes.
Dee lifted her claws and set BB free;
she swatted her nose with a great "Ahee!"
Smartly, Ronnie flew to the mole.
The friends ran all the way to BB's hole.
Having reached safety they started to play,
but they never forgot that scary day.
In the evening, when it was time for sleep,
they snoozed together, buzz and peep.
Perhaps everyone should take heed:
Be a good friend! Help those in need!
