Have you ever witnessed your parents argue or violently fight? Well, if so, you’re not the only one. I have too! It all started one random day in the year 2005. I was sleeping like a little baby when suddenly I remembered hearing something “strange” but I ignored it because I was sleepy. it sounded frightening, like if someone was being hurt. A few hours had passed and the “strange noise” had waked me up again! I thought to myself, “Am I hearing things?” Just then I heard it again, and I knew it was coming from my mom and dad’s room. It sounded like a Scream movie where one of his victim’s gets killed.
I heard my mom scream and so I rushed out of bed expecting to come face to face with the worst. I was terrified! I rushed into their room and became petrified! All I saw was my mom violently bleeding because of my bloodthirsty dad whose eyes were filled with anger. I quickly tried to protect my mom by standing right in front of the doorway where she was at. Unfortunately, my dad got through me. He eventually grabbed my mom by the hair and banged her on the dresser. I just watched as my mom got bloodier, broken, and bruised. I knew I had to do something! I quickly went to my dad and started punching him, but I was small so it didn’t hurt. After I punched him several times, he punched me back knocking me on the ground unconscious. A few moments later the scream of my mom awoke me. Then somehow, I threw an unthinkable punch to his temples knocking him on the ground unconscious. I grabbed my bruised mom as we lingered out to the front porch before my dad would wake up. All I saw as we were outside was a dark night sky. I can feel chills go down my spine because of how cold it was. I got my mom’s phone from her pocket and called the cops.
Weew! Weew! Weew! Once I heard that familiar siren a sigh of relief came upon my mom and me. The cops were finally here, and took away my dad violently because my dad fought with the cops and refused to cooperate, but then they set him free at approximately 5 A.M. the next day. Somehow I had a feeling it wasn’t over.
Once my mom’s brother came, she told him what had happened. My uncle was furious from the news he heard and so my uncle went to my aunt’s house and encountered my dad. My dad got closer and closer heading towards my uncle trying to shake his hand but just then, my uncle threw an unexpected punch to one of my dad’s eyes giving him a purple eye. My dad frantically ran to his car and came to our house where my mom and I were. As he knocked on the door, I opened. He rushed into our house heading towards the knives. I knew he was going to do something. I ran to my mom to protect her. Eventually, my dad got hold of a 10 inch knife and headed towards my mom and me. Somehow I managed to grab the knife from my dad’s bare hands and threatened him to get out or else I would hurt him. Out of nowhere my dad pulled out a brand new grey 22 caliber handgun and threatened to shoot my mom, but then I said to him, “Kill me not my mom! I love her with all my heart and I will always!” My dad pulled the trigger and shot! I was scared like I’ve never been scared before. He missed us on purpose. Afterwards, he left, leaving his marks on both my mom and me, such as scares, scratches, and bruises.
FINALLY IT WAS OVER!!!
This situation gave me a chance to feel types of scared I could have never imagined to experience. In the future something like this will never fly by me ever again because I’ve already experienced it and I will be prepared. Today I can still feel the punches and see the scars. I’m proud of myself for what I did. I did not feel afraid, but instead I felt courage.
