Staring
Born 1996, F, from Pennsylvania, United StatesI looked at the quiet boy before me and froze, if only for moment, uncontrollably. This is what always happened when I saw him, and I hated it. My feet would somehow just stop working and all of a sudden it would just be me looking at him and… And then I would catch myself losing control of myself and try to move, only it never was that simple. I don’t know why exactly he did this to me, it was just something he could just do. It was the most amazing… and scary thing I have ever been through.
It was like I would see his face and it would cause my heart to literally explode. It’s hard to explain but it’s true. Each and every time I saw that golden hair and those bottomless beautiful blues it would happen, without fail, and then once reality kicked in I’d be standing there like a fool. Then, my cheeks would flame and I’d do my best to disappear behind my chestnut waves. It’s so embarrassing. Thank God, that him and his blue eyes hardly ever even knew I existed or else I don’t think I could live with that kind of humiliation…
So there I was, staring like a fool at those glorious golden locks falling perfectly in front of those endless eyes, when he looked at me. There, in that moment, it was blue and brown, him and me. It was so wonderfully frightening that all I could manage to do was give a bewildered smile and begin to lose myself in my tawny ripples. I started to turn away, afraid, but secretly hopeful, that he might see all of the overwhelming emotions rushing through me. I was turning, hiding, and running all at the same time, when the most magnificent voice stopped me. His voice. He was calling my name. “Sophie!” he called, “Soph wait!”
I swear my heart skipped a beat as he jogged to stand next to me. “You gotta minute?” he asked, completely smooth, and he even smiled. Then I spoke in a tone that surprised even me, “Ya, sure… What’s up?” It was completely smoothe, just like his. I still have no idea how I’d managed that.
“I was just wondern` if you wanted to… um… walk to History together?” he asked with nervous eyes as he ran his fingers through his hair.
Engulfed with so much emotion, it took all I had to say an even, “Sure.” Then off we walked...
