Into the Moonlight (Part Four)
F, from Idaho, United StatesI stopped at a small river. It ran like glass through rocks. I saw that the rocks were hollow. The river ran right through them. A small waterfall was at the beginning of the river. The trees and flowers around made it look really pretty. Little birds chirped in the trees. I sat down on top of a rock. I had to think things through. I’ll start from the beginning, I thought.
My name is Tara Werlac. I come from Sidney, Australia. When I was 5, I moved to the USA. When I was 15, I was changed into a werewolf. The one who turned me was Jace Moonly. He got captured because he was close to me. That made me start this journey. The ones that started on this journey with me are Hunter Kettering and Sebastian Velon. We got five new people when we came to Stillyir. Those people are: Kaye Telver, Rylee Foster, Draven Moonly, Jacob Stouthe, and a tiny sprite named Luna. Jacob was killed by rangers. Kaye and Sebastian went missing. We are all alone.
I shook my head. Why, oh why, was I doing this?
“Are you ok?” I swung around to see a boy standing there. He had rich brown hair, hazel eyes, and was close to my height. He was cute, for a human.
“I’m fine.” He didn’t look convinced.
“What are you doing here,” he asked.
“Trying to clear my head,” I responded.
“What were you trying to clear your head about?”
“Stressful stuff.”
“As in….?”
“Look you really don’t need to know. How do I know I can trust you?” He smiled.
“You can trust me.”
I took a deep breath and was about to say something, when Hunter burst out of the trees.
“Tara, Luna told me to tell you—” He broke of seeing the boy. He growled.
“You!” Hunter ran in front of me and crouch low, a defensive crouch. He was still growling. He got down on his hands and knees and transformed into his wolf self. He sprang at the boy. The boy didn’t even look scared. He lifted a hand and Hunter froze in midair. He literally froze in midair. Only his eyes moved. The emotion in them was pure hatred and anger. The boy flicked his wrist so light that it didn’t even look like he moved it and Hunter went flying as if he weighed only an ounce. The boy turned to me.
“You are Tara? Tara Werlac?” I said nothing; did nothing. I didn’t think I could.
“My name is Austin. Austin Velverand. You have to come with me.” I shook my head. He looked at me strangely as if he couldn’t believe I had said no. He raised his hand.
Suddenly, feeling more energy than I had had before, I ran at him. He looked surprised. I got into my wolf form and took out his legs, swung back into human form, and punched him in the face. He lay on the ground, stunned.
“I’m not going anywhere,” I hissed. “I know what you’re doing. You want me for your dad. No way. I’m staying here.” He looked up at me. I smirked down at him. He scowled at me and melted into the ground. Literally, he went right through the ground. I widened my eyes. Hunter came up behind me.
“Did you—” I started.
“I did and I’ve seen it before.” I turned to look at him. His face was grim. “Let’s go tell the others what you saw.”
Aelix, Draven, and Luna were sitting around a campfire when we walk back through. Aelix’s head popped up when he heard us.
“What happened,” he asked. As Hunter told him, I walked back around to Rylee. She was sleeping now, with the arrow out of her back.
Luna did a good job, I thought, looking around for the small sprite. She was sitting in a tree, humming so low that I could barely hear it.
“Luna,” I called softly. She stopped humming, and looked down at me.
“What did you find,” she asked. I swiftly told her about Austin and what he can do. She got paler and paler.
When I finished, she said, “He’s probably as close as a human can get to a fairy or warlock!” I nodded absently. She floated over and sat on my shoulder. We walked back to the group and stood around the campfire. Hunter, Aelix, and Luna went off to bed. I stayed awake, watching the fire coals die. I heard rustling and reached for the sword at my waist.
“Who’s there,” I called hesitantly. Suddenly, a figure stumbled out of the trees. It had black hair, was really muscular, had on a black shirt, shorts, and had brown eyes. It was carrying something. No… someone! That someone had brown hair. She still looked tall even when he was carrying her.
“Man,” Sebastian said, “you have to hear the story I have to tell.”
It took me three seconds to wake up Hunter, Luna, Draven, and Aelix. I went into the camp and started screaming bloody murder. Hunter and Draven ran out of the tent as fast as they could. Luna flew up in a tree. Aelix, for some strange reason, started yelling, “Abandon ship! Abandon ship!”
“Shut up,” I screamed, and all the commotion stopped. Sebastian stepped out from behind me, carrying Kaye. Aelix saw her and ran over.
“Kaye, Kaye! Can you hear me?” She didn’t move.
“She’s unconscious,” Sebastian said grimly. Aelix looked up at him.
“Is she hurt?” Sebastian shook his head. Aelix relaxed a bit. Sebastian set her down carefully on the ground. Hunter looked at him, hatred pure in his eyes.
“WHY DID YOU DO THAT,” he yelled. “You got Jacob killed, and Rylee got shot trying to find you. Tara risked her life to come in after us after the Rangers got us! We were worried that you had gotten hurt or killed! Do you expect us to be happy for you?! Well, you get no happiness from me.” Hunter turned his back on him. Sebastian started to growl. I put a warning hand on his shoulder. He stopped.
“Can I at least tell you what happened,” he asked irritably. Hunter sighed and turned around.
“Fine.” He sat down on the log next to the fire. Sebastian sat down across from him and I sat next to Sebastian.
“Tara was taking a long time getting the wood,” he started. “Kaye decided to find out if she was okay. So, she asked me and Jacob to come. We both agreed because we were worried about Tara.
“About, a fourth of the way to the tree where Tara was cutting, we heard a noise. Like a small tinkling or a grinding. Suddenly, an arrow shot out at me. Jacob, being brave, dived in front of it and protected me. It hit him right in the arm. ‘Go and find Tara,’ he said. Kaye took his advice and bolted out of there. I hesitated and then went. We didn’t know that he had died. We went on. We passed the sprites nest and heard them whispering as we walked along. They knew who we were, where we came from, everything. Then, we came to the stream.” Hunter sucked in his breath, so quiet that no one heard it but me.
“It was beautiful, full of water and greens. We crossed it easily. We were about a mile away from it when a boy stopped us. He said his name was Austin. I had heard stories about him. How his father took supernatural’s powers. I leapt at him. He raised his hand and I froze in midair. He flicked his wrist and I went flying. I saw him turn to Kaye. He said something and then hit her. It caught her right on the temple. That’s what knocked her out. She fell to the ground like a stone. He turned, looked at me, smiled, and just disappeared. I rest for two hours. Then, I carried Kaye back to the stream. I saw footprints. I followed them to you, Tara. That’s the story.” Nothing was said when he was finished. I looked up at the night sky. Stars dotted the navy blue surface. It was beautiful even when some things were not.
“What’s going on,” a familiar voice spoke up. I swung my head around to see Kaye trying to get up to a sitting. I ran over to her.
“Do you remember anything?”
“No.”
“Well, you’re safe now, Kaye. We also have a very big surprise for you.” I backed away as Aelix walked up.
“Kaye?” Kaye looked up at him.
“Oh my god. Aelix!” She grabbed him and hugged him. Tears started spilling down her face. Aelix hugged her back. Hunter smiled and crossed his arms. I looked at them and almost started crying myself. They looked really stupendous together. Sebastian smiled. Draven looked around. He looked almost like a cat that has sensed a mouse.
“What happened—” Kaye started, but Draven held up a hand.
“Shush.” I looked around. I didn’t see anything. I was about to say something when my eyes fluttered closed. Instead of the back of my eyelids, I saw the clearing, but the trees were gone. I saw hunters creeping up on us with guns. Dang it!
My eyes opened. The others were looking at me curiously. Suddenly, there was a gunshot and Hunter fell back. I ran over to him. His green shirt started turning red.
“Oh my god! Hunter got shot,” I shouted. Luna flew down and landed next to me. She grew to human size and started to go to work.
“Luna,” I asked.
“What?”
“Can you create some swords really fast?”
“Of course I can.” Out of nowhere, three swords fell to the ground. Draven, Aelix, and Sebastian picked them up. They stuck the sword sheathes on their belts. Draven drew his sword. It was made out of gold, but it was as light as a feather. It had emeralds encrusted on the bottom. It had a red glow around it. On the gold, it had a saying on it. Entu voln beldi. It was Fairy language. Surprisingly, I knew what it said. It meant The Fire Sword.
Aelix and Sebastian looked interested. They drew their swords. Aelix’s sword had jades and crystal on the hilt. It was made out of silver. It had a green glow around it. This saying was Entu roldn beldi. It meant The Tree Sword.
Sebastian drew his sword. It was made out of bronze and had pearls and chips of gold in it. It had a gray glow around it. Entu ahes and yelan beldi. The Ash and Ice Sword. Nice.
I drew my sword. It was made out of pure crystal. It had the rubies and sapphires around it. The saying on mine said Entu balten and witl beldi. The Brave and Water Sword.
Then, two bows and two quivers of arrows fell to the ground. Kaye and Rylee picked those up. Kaye strapped her quiver her back and looked at her bow.
“Quick Strike. Nice.” She smiled. Rylee looked at her quiver for a second and then strapped it to her back. She looked at her bow.
“Light Wood.” She smirked. Luna smiled and went back to working on Hunter. I gathered up all the people that had weapons.
“Okay, we are going to split up on go into the woods. We had to find the person who shot Hunter.” I taught them a simple three note whistle. “Whistle if you find them.” Then, I taught them a four note whistle. “Use this if you’re in trouble.” We split up and went into the forest. The dark trees loomed over me. The wind whistled through my ears. I heard rustling and I quickly drew my sword. I got ready to whistle when a rabbit shot out of the bushes. I chuckled, embarrassed. I put my sword away and kept walking. I got to a giant maple tree and stopped to rest.
Suddenly, I heard a piercing four note whistle. Someone was in trouble! And it sounded really close. I started running towards the whistle. I came to a clearing. Aelix was surrounded be rangers. One of them had a T cut into his shirt. It was the rangers that killed Jacob! Warenth was advancing on Aelix.
I dropped into my wolf form and ran at the rangers. A growl ripped through my throat. The rangers turned, surprised. I sprang at Warenth. Suddenly, I heard another growl. I though Sebastian. I turned around. It wasn’t Sebastian. It was a wolf with gray curly fur. Fange? Out of nowhere, more wolves lined up behind him. I could see the black fur of Nightshade and the thin brown pelt of Lightning.
Hi, Tara, Fange said. Need help? I grinned. Fange faded into the pack, leaving me in charge. Fange flanked my right and Nightshade flanked my right.
Hold it, I said. Don’t hurt the elf in the middle of them.
Ok, came the twenty responses.
Ready, attack! The pack charged at the rangers. The rangers met us head on. I ran to find Warenth. Fange and Nightshade followed me. They stopped anyone who tried to find me.
Nightshade, I need you to find the elf, I said. He nodded his shaggy head, and took off into the fighting. I watched him go and went on. Ranger after ranger tried to get me only to get attacked by another wolf.
I finally saw him. He was stabbing a gray wolf that I didn’t know. He turned and looked at me. He threw the wolf aside.
“You,” he growled. I growled back. I sprang at him, my jaws gaping. He was ready. He pushed me off to the side. I landed on my feet. I ran at him, spun on my back kicking out at his legs, transformed back into human, and picked him up by his shirt. I punched him in the face and transformed back into a wolf and bit his leg.
Warenth howled in pain. He drew his sword.
“You fowl little—” Something jumped at him. Something black with white spots. Sebastian! Sebastian clawed at him and bit his arm. Warenth howled. He threw Sebastian on and placed a foot on his ribs. Sebastian struggled to get up. Warenth smirk and stabbed him right in between the ribs. Sebastian howled. His howl was like spike being driven into my ears. I sprang at Warenth knocking him off Sebastian. He scrambled to get up. I bit his arm. He howled. He shook me off and placed a foot on my back. I howled, trying to get up.
“I should have killed you when you came into my camp,” he hissed. “Now I’m going to do what I should have done a long time ago.” He raised his sword. I transformed back into human. His foot was on my back.
“Perfect,” he hissed. And then he brought the sword down. A searing pain went through my back up to my skull. The last thing I saw was Warenth stop laughing and fall to the ground.
My chances of finding Jace disappeared as soon as the pain went through my back. I would never see him again; I wouldn’t see Kaye, Sebastian, Aelix, Draven, Hunter, or Rylee ever again. Being back together again was good while it lasted. The pain grew intense and everything went black.
I was floating through the air. I had no sensation in any of my body parts. Clouds floated past me.
“Tara!” Calls came around me. My name over and over again.
“Her wound in deep, Fange, I think his sword cut up some of the bones on her spine. She might not make it…” I faded away. I felt something lift me gently.
“I’m going to take her back to camp.” Aelix. I faded away into nothingness.
“It’s been a week, Luna, and she hasn’t woken up yet.”
“Aelix, it takes time to heal.”
“Are we going to tell her about Rylee?”
“No, we shouldn’t yet. She is our leader, but give her time.”
“I know, but I have to tell her— look! She moved!”
“She’s alive!” A sigh. “Thank god! I’ll go tell the others.”
I had been gone for a week. I needed to open my eyes. A bunch of dreams kept me in my trance though. A bunch of people I did not know. A small black haired girl crying for help. A young man with brown hair pacing in circles. A red haired girl staring intensely at me. A black haired boy, a white haired girl, a brown haired girl, and another blond haired boy standing in a circle. A boy with feathery white wings.
I peeled open my eyes. The night sky whirled above my head. Stars dotted the pure black surface. I could see the Little Dipper and the Big Dipper. I could feel the warmth of the fire at my feet. I pulled myself to a sitting position. A pain went through my back and I fell back down again. My head felt like it was full of fluff. Suddenly, a dark brown head was bent over me.
“Tara, are you okay?” Aelix knelt next to me. I’m fine I wanted to say, but my mouth felt glued shut. I nodded. He sighed a sigh of relief. He scooped me up and carried me closer to the fire.
“Can you sit up,” he asked.
“I think I can.” My voice rubbed up against my throat. He smiled kindly. I struggled to sit up. He placed a hand on my back and helped me sit up.
“Where is everyone?” I looked around.
“They’re all asleep. I’m the only one awake.” Aelix chuckled softly.
“What happened to me?” His face got serious, and, unless I imagined it, a little sad.
“You started to fight with Warenth. He pinned you down on the ground and put his sword into your back. You blacked out after that. Kaye put an arrow through his head. He’s dead, now. After the battle, we all got together. Sebastian, Kaye, and Draven were there. No one has seen Rylee since the battle. She just… disappeared.” I looked at the ground.
“Warenth… stuck his sword into me? Where?”
“Here, I’ll show you.” He lifted up the back on my shirt and ran his finger in a line across the back on it. A searing pain went through my back.
“Okay, okay, I got it,” I hissed through my teeth. He stopped and pulled my shirt back down.
“Can you stand?” I shrugged. He held out a hand to me. I grabbed it and he heaved me up on to my feet. I staggered a bit and gripped Aelix’s hand. He steadied me and soon I found my balance.
“Thanks.” He just shrugged. I looked around the camp. Fange’s pack had set up tents. They must be staying with us. I turned to say something to him and somehow I was in the circle of his arm and he was kissing me.
At first, his mouth was hard, yielding, but he softened up. I was surprised, so surprised that I had to grab the tree for balance. Somehow, I found myself kissing him back. He ran his fingers through my hair.
“What in the world is going on?” I broke off and turned to look at who had spoken. Fange was standing right behind us with Nightshade, Hunter, Sebastian, Lightning, Luna, Kaye, and Draven. They all wore different expressions. Fange was a look of confusion. Lightning was pretty much laughing at us without laughing. Nightshade was sneering at us. Hunter had gone a really pale white and in his eyes was a look of pure horror. Kaye was staring at her brother, her face strangely unreadable. Sebastian looked like he was going to explode and kill Aelix. Draven looked… sympathetic. He was reading Aelix’s mind. Luna stared at me.
“What is going on,” Sebastian asked.
“I-I-I, um, I—” I couldn’t think of a single word to say. A sudden urge took me and I dropped down into my wolf form. I spun around and bolt off into the forest. I was lucky that I already had my sword on my belt when I changed. I ran fast, swift and silent. I passed many trees and bushes. Thorns snagged my pelt as I ran. I finally came to a clearing. I stopped and changed back into a human. I saw a berry bush near the edge of the clearing. I went over and started picking them. I ate them fast. It would settle my stomach for a little bit.
I walked back into the woods and headed the way I thought was north. Suddenly, a dart shot out and hit my back. I yowled in pain. I reached behind and pulled it out. I swung around trying to find the person who hit me.
“Tara Werlac.” A voice sounded from behind me. I turned around, but… there wasn’t anything there.
“I have been waiting a long time to meet you.” I started spinning in circles trying to find the person who was talking.
“I have heard a lot about you. How you are risking your life to save your friend, bringing along two people that I can’t wait to meet. Oh, how I have longed for this.” I suddenly heard rustling behind me. I spun around and a teenage boy walked out. He had blond hair like mine, had blue eyes, was really tall, about a head taller than me, and he had a sword strapped to his back. He looked about seventeen. He smiled at me.
“Who are you,” I asked.
“My name is Jason.”
“Why do you look so familiar?” He grinned.
“Because I am your brother.”
“No.” My legs could only barely hold me up. “I don’t have any brothers or sisters.”
“That’s because our parents put you up for adoption when you were little.”
“Yes, I got that. What are you?”
“I am a werewolf, just like you. I was bitten on the same day, same time. You and I are both Angel Wolves.” I just stared at him. I couldn’t think of what to say.
“I know where you can find Jace.” The words hit me like a blow.
“What?! You know where Jace is?”
“Yes, I do.”
“Take me, please! I have to get him back.”
“I will, but—” He peered over my shoulder. “I think they want to come too.” I whirled around and saw Aelix, Hunter, and Sebastian.
“The Kaye and Draven are going to stay here,” Sebastian said. “We’re coming with you.”
“No you aren’t,” I hissed. “You will just fight all the way. That’s why I hate you. You guys always fight. You are a danger to this group right now. I’d rather go alone with my brother than take you guys along.”
Hunter didn’t seem fazed. “Of course not, we’re still coming with you even if we have to track you.” I threw up my arms in exasperation.
“Fine, come if you want to.” I turned back to my brother. “Can we go?” Jason dipped his head, turned around, and bolted into the woods. I sprang after him. I kept up with him easily.
We passed many fruit trees, but few berry bushes. I looked behind me and saw Hunter, Sebastian, and Aelix fading far behind us. Sebastian and Hunter dropped into their wolf forms and started after us. Aelix looked like he was counting to ten. Then he started after us. He was fast. He caught up with Hunter and Sebastian easily.
We ran for miles. Jason and I weren’t tired at all. Hunter was panting. Sebastian started lagging far behind. Aelix kept up, but I could tell he was getting tired.
“Jason,” I hissed, “we need to slow down. The boys are getting tired.” He nodded and stopped reluctantly. I stopped next to him and waited for the boys. Aelix was the first to our stopping place. He nearly stumbled to the ground. He sat down and breathed deeply. Hunter was next. He flopped to the ground and was panting really hard. His fur was slick with sweat. Sebastian took the longest. He walked all the way with his head down and lay on the ground. I sat down next to him.
“Are you okay?” He nodded his shaggy head. I smiled. He laughed, or what passed for laughing as a wolf. It sounded like a growl. Hunter laughed with him. Aelix grinned.
Jason said, “I’m going to scout on ahead.”
“I’ll go with you,” I said. I turned to Aelix and the boys. “You have to stay here.” Sighing, Aelix nodded his head. I grinned. Jason scowled at him. I looked at Jason and laughed. He grinned and ran into the forest. I looked back at the boys one more time and followed after him.
Jason stopped in the middle of a circle of trees.
“Jason, what—”
“Shush!” He looked around and whistled twice. Suddenly, a burst of people ran into the circle. A hood was put over my head. I yelled and kicked out. I heard someone swear. My head was yanked back.
“Do that again, and I will stab you a thousand times and watch you slowly bleed to death.”
“Come now,” Jason’s voice came. “We don’t want to frighten her anymore.”
“Jason.” My voice was muffled by the hood. “What are you doing?”
“He paid me to bring you to him.”
“Are you really my brother? And who’s he?”
“Yes, I am really your brother, but I am not a werewolf. He is—” He stopped.
“Sir, we have to go if he wants her before dawn,” one of the men said. I could almost imagine Jason nodding. Someone tied my hands together and pushed me roughly ahead of him. I stumbled but then regained balance.
We walked for miles. Sometimes peopled pushed me, sometimes people carried me. I stumbled along stony paths, I slid along icy paths, and I tripped over rocky paths.
Finally, I heard doors open and I felt smooth tile under my feet (I had forgotten to put on shoes today).
Jason said, “We’re here.” Suddenly, I was pushed roughly to my knees. I yelp in resentment. Someone yanked off the hood and I gasped for air. Blond wisps of hair fell in front of my face. I blew them away.
“This is Tara Werlac,” a man’s voice asked.
“Yes it is, sir.” Jason dipped his head. I looked up and saw a man standing above me. He had black hair, brown eyes, and was kind of tan. He bent down in front of me and I looked away.
“Hello, Tara. Do you who I am?” I didn’t answer. The rope from my “cuffs” was digging into my skin. The pain helped me ignore him. He put two fingers to the side of my chin and forced me to look at him.
“My name is Robin. And I want you to give me something of yours. I want your powers.”
“I haven’t figured them all out,” I hissed through my teeth. He looked surprised.
“Fine. We’ll throw you in with the rest until you figure the rest of your powers out.” Someone grabbed me the collar of my shirt and yanked me up. They blind folded me and took me into a different room.
“This’ll teach you to remember,” someone growled. I was thrown down onto a hard metal floor. I heard a clang on a metal door and then silence. I reached up with my tied hands and took off the blind fold.
I was in a cage. It was really big and made out of titanium. I stood up and walked around in circles, looking around the room. There were other cages in the room.
“Hello,” I called softly. I heard rustling around the room and bunches of faces appear.
“Who are you?” The voice came from behind me. I whirled around and saw a small teenage girl with black hair looking at me.
“My name is Tara, and I’m a werewolf.” Mutters started around the cages.
“Are you the one,” asked a black haired boy.
“If you mean I’m the Angel Wolf then yes, I am the one.”
“My name is Trinity,” the black haired girl said. “I am the Element Bender.”
“What do you mean?” I was really confused.
“I can bend the Elements. Watch.” She raised her hands and started swirling them in a circular formation. Water started to form. I put my hand in front of my mouth. A blond boy was watching me.
“My name is Marcus,” he said. “I am a werewolf too.”
One by one, people started to introduce themselves. The black haired boy was Pix and he could talk to animals. A red haired girl was named Rose and she could control Mother Nature. A brown haired girl said her name was Kaleb and she had skills with a bow and arrow. Another girl with white hair was called Melody and she had the power of moving things with her mind and hands without touching them.
Finally, I turned to a boy who was in the cage in front of me. He had beautiful brown hair and had on a white shirt. Suddenly, his shirt moved and became two pure white wings. He looked up at me.
“My name is Jayco. And I am a son of an Angel.” I couldn’t think of anything to say. He grinned and looked back down He looked so beautiful. Or handsome. Which ever worked right there.
I turned to look at everyone. “We can get out of this. I know it. If we use all of our talents together, we can get out of here.” Everyone nodded. “Okay, Marcus, make a diversion and hide. As soon as the guards come running in knock them out and grab their keys. Then I’ll tell you plan two.” He nodded. He yanked off a bar from the side of the cage and ran it along the other bars. It made a long ringing sound. He kept going until we heard footsteps. Then, he hid.
Suddenly, a guard burst through the room. He glared at all of us searching for which one of us was making the racket. Marcus jumped on him from behind. He hit him. Hard. The guard slumped to the ground. Marcus bent down and grabbed the keys from his belt. He went over and unlocked Melody’s cell. She walked out.
Splitting up the rest of the keys, they walked around the room, unlocking all of the cages. Finally, Marcus unlocked my cage and I walked out. I turned around to look back at my cage. Instead, I looked at a cage behind it. Inside, a humped shape was right in the center of it. He had golden hair. I walked through the crack between cages to the cage behind mine. I got a closer look. He had golden hair and was slim. It was Jace.
Marcus tossed me the keys. I scrambled to find the key that fit Jace’s lock. I found it and scrambled inside. After I got hurt, my hopes of finding him dispersed. But now, I found him.
I knelt down next to him. His golden head was down and filthy. I gently shook him. As soon as I touched him, a bunch of images flooded my mind. Jace standing over me with Sebastian staring in horror. Sebastian was yelling at him. Another image came. Jason appearing though a Portal, landing in the middle of the empty poker room that was Fange’s hideout. I saw him grab Jace and throw him through the Portal. He said his name was Austin. But it wasn’t really Austin. The next image filled me with sympathy and horror. Jace was laying on the metal floor of his cage, yanking at the cuffs that bound his wrists.
The last image got my attention. Robin came into Jace’s cage. He looked down at Jace kneeling on the floor.
“Jace,” Robin said, “we are old friends aren’t we. Why don’t you tell me where Tara is and I’ll let you go free.” Jace looked up at him and spit a mouthful of blood on his shoes. Robin backed away disgusted. Then, he kicked Jace right in the head.
“Tara?” A voice brought me out of my mind. I looked down and saw Jace raise his head. “Tara, is that you?” Tears started spilling down my face. I didn’t make a move to wipe them. I hugged him.
“We are going to get you out of here.”
“We?”
“The other people in here. They are helping me.”
“Nice.” Melody walked up.
“I think I can help with cuffs.” She closed her eyes and raised her hands. She opened her eyes again. Instead of her pretty blue eyes, they were as white as her hair. She threw her hands wide and the cuffs. She blinked and her eyes were blue again. Jace stood up.
“Thanks,” he said, rubbing his wrists. Turning to me, he said, “How are we getting out?” I walked to the door and knocked. I heard footsteps and the door opened.
“What,” a guard said. Then, he saw me. “HOLY—” He didn’t have time to finish the curse. I punched him in the face rapidly. He slumped to the floor.
“Let’s go.” I let Trinity go first. Then, Jayco, Melody, Marcus, Pix, and Rose. Jace was the last to go out.
“Thanks,” he said. I smiled. He smiled back and walked out.
How can I be in love with two boys that I barely know???? I thought. One of them I just met and one I knew a long time ago. I sighed and walked after Jace. I shut the door behind me, so I wouldn’t raise suspicion. Finally, the escape begins.
Into the Moonlight (Part Four)(Katie)
I stopped at a small river.
