Alone but Alive(Komilannaath) David goes to his room. He opens his cupboard and takes an album. David opens it with his eyes tears flowing down. In that album, there are many pictures. David is posing with a girl in every picture. Who is the girl that's standing beside David? He turns every page recalling, his thoughts flashback. The girl who is standing with him is Jennifer.

BEGIN FLASHBACK

Jennifer is David’s childhood friend. She is also known as his best friend. Jennifer and David share their happiness, sadness, life issues, education and many more. There are many people who envy their friendship. There are also people who appreciate their friendship. Jennifer and David know everything about each other. When David and Jennifer reach 22 years old, many people suspect whether they are in love because of the way David and Jennifer mingle around. Both of them have never ever been alone.

One day, Sebastian, David’s dad, went to his friend, James’s house. There while speaking, suddenly he asked Sebastian about the relationship between David and Jennifer. Sebastian says they are just friends but James never agrees with what he says. Once he reaches home, Sebastian calls David and Jennifer to discuss an important matter.

Sebastian asks David and Jennifer personally about their relationship. David and Jennifer say they are friends. Then Sebastian decides to share what James suspected just now. Once David and Jennifer heard that, they were shocked. They also felt unhappy because Sebastian, who knows them since childhood, also suspects, as James. Then finally, Sebastian says to David to marry Jennifer so that it won’t spoil their family image.
Jennifer starts to cry once she heard that. David feels guilty to stand in front of Jennifer anymore. Both of them are facing a bad moment in their life. Then David starts to voice out once his dad tries to force him to marry her again and again.

David: Yes dad, as all of you think that there is love between us. Friendship is between lovers, similarly love is between friendships. For two people being together in any relationship they need love between them. The same love is also between us. In this love, we don’t expect anything from each other. The love that doesn’t expect anything is called friendship. The society which is accepting brother and sister, mother and son, father and daughter as true relationship, why can’t it accept a boy and a girl’s friendship? Since childhood, in the school, college, music, love, happy, sorrow and life, she was with me everywhere. We have shared everything but I can’t even think of sharing my bed also with her. Ever since I became aware of the world I’ve started to call mom as mom. it is equally true that Jennifer is my friend.

Sebastian: I thought there was no clarity in the minds of youngsters of this generation and was hoping you to reform. After seeing your clarity in the line between love and friendship, I think that my generation should be changed. It’s not my honor to give you freedom, it’s your honor being same today without misusing it. Because we are in the society that can’t take a boy and a girl to be friends forever, I can’t understand both of you. I’m sorry David and Jennifer.

One day Jennifer and David went to shop to buy things for their house. Suddenly Jennifer gets excited. David was wondering why she was so excited. Actually Jennifer met her old college mate, Lucy, at that shop. After a long time they meet each other. They share many stories. While both of them are sharing their stories, David is just looking at Lucy surprisingly. David feels the love which form into the deep of his heart. Lucy never realizes that David is looking at her. David smiles and falls into dreamland. Then David introduces himself to Lucy. Since that day the three of them start to roam together. David uses this opportunity to understand more about Lucy before he proposes to her. Lucy personally likes David very much. She shares this matter with Jennifer.

After 3 months, David and Lucy couple up. They love each other very much. They share all their experiences with each other.

One day, David rushes Jennifer to the nearest hospital because she falls in the washroom due to a floor slippery. Jennifer’s head is seriously injured. After 1 hour, the doctor gives his feedback. He says Jennifer’s life expectancy is very short because she already lost much blood. She should have come earlier.

David becomes speechless after getting to know his best friend is going to leave him forever. He cries loudly. He really cannot take it. He begs the doctor to diagnose Jennifer again. But the doctor asks Sebastian and Lucy to make him relax. Jennifer gets to know everything. Once David sits beside her, Jennifer touches his hand and says…

Jennifer: don’t worry, David. I'm going away from you with full happiness because I don’t have parents to take care of me, but at least I got a best friend. May be God doesn’t have enough friends, so He needs me. Whatever it is, God can’t take away the memories that we had together.

David: Please give me a hug, Jennifer.

They hug each other. Suddenly David feels Jennifer’s heart beat stop. David cries and cannot let her go. He keeps on hugging her.

After 6 months…..David continues his life as usual. But sometimes he will recall all his memories with Jennifer. Every moment when David is depressed there is Lucy with him. He does not want to lose her in his life. Lucy takes care of David more than herself. For Lucy, David is always her shadow. After Sebastian passed away due to aging factor, David surrenders himself to Lucy to take of himself forever. Lucy decides to live for David forever. They love each other very much.

After a long time, there is a happy news for David. Lucy's parents agree for Lucy and David's marriage. They are going to marry very soon. One day, David brings Lucy for dinner. While driving, David shares about his future plans with Lucy. She smiles after hearing that. They are enjoying their day while going to dinner. Suddenly there is a man driving his car and it bangs the divider of the road. The car was lifted and falls inverted on the opposite road just in front of David car.

Lucy and David are shocked. Luckily, David applies sudden brake. Lucy fainted in car due to the accident shock. David rushes her to the nearest hospital. David gets very nervous. After one hour, doctor says Lucy has a heart problem, she must go through heart transplantation immediately. Doctor needs David’s permission to do so. So doctor gave informed consent to David to sign it. After 2 hours, doctor say Lucy is safe now. David feels very happy and thanks doctor.

But there is twisting news for David. The heart that transplants for Lucy is Jennifer’s heart. Once David gets to know that, he gets shocked and cries silently. David begs to doctor to not inform Lucy about heart transplantation because he do not want Lucy to feel depressed about her health. He meets Lucy but he cannot express his happiness because her heart belongs to Jennifer, his best friend. He starts to feel guilty to marry Lucy now because he cannot even imagin that he is going to marry a girl who is breathing on behalf of his best friend, Jennifer.

After few days, David decides to change Lucy's mind from marrying him. He does not have another solution to solve this matter. He is in a very critical situation. He feels like he is betraying his friendship by marrying Lucy who is breathing on behalf of Jennifer, because for him, he stays in Jennifer's heart as a best friend and not more than that. At the same time he feels like he is betraying his love if he ignores it to marry Lucy who is just living for him.

In this world, if we need something we must sacrifice something.

In this story, David decides to sacrifice his love in order to safe his friendship. David simply acts like he never loved Lucy sincerely.

Lucy is shouting at David because he cheats her. He says he is going to break up with her. Lucy says she still loves him so much. But David just walks away without saying anything. At that time, she cries and begs to him. She wants him forever in her life but he just ignores her. Finally he says “sorry Lucy, don’t stop me anymore. This is my way. Just forget the relationship between us. I do not feel you are suitable for me. I'm going to search for another girl and I give you permission to search for a new guy. Just imagine our relationship is a kind of bad experience in our life and throw it from your memories. Good Bye…”

END of FLASHBACK

He closes his album and puts it back in the cupboard again. His tears are flowing down. On 27 July 2012 is Lucy's marriage. Lucy's marriage is arranged by her parents once David ignores her. Lucy cannot forget David but she gets terribly hurt when he ignores her for no reason. Until now Lucy does not know that she is alive because of Jennifer’s heart and thinks that David cheats her in love. Lucy does not know why David did that.
David says “I hate William Shakespeare’s poem titled, The Brief Candle. I hate him when he says life is meaningless. But now I agree with him. Now I am standing like a big tree without any branches, leaves, and fruits. I am lonely now. I feel fooled by my fate. I feel funny and pity when I see myself in mirror. My dreams are just dreams.”
