The Birthday Surprise

It was a usual Friday night, dark but breezy. My parents were getting ready to go to the cinema. In spite of the fact that many young teens are involved in going to cinemas, I had never been to a cinema with my parents or any of my friends – it’s not my cup of tea.

“Dear Jessie…we are going and we will be late tonight. Take care of you, OK?” mother said.

“OK mom,” I replied with a dull voice.

As I was alone in the home, I thought of reading a book, but I wasn’t in the mood for reading. So I set in the living room watching T.V trying to relieve the boredom.

Suddenly, I heard a faint sound knocking the door. I got up and stepped forward, curious to know who it would be.

To my surprise, there was no one seen from outside when I opened the door. Then I thought it might be a hallucination and just turned back to close the door, but just then I caught sight of an envelope out of the corner of my eye that was near the door.

I was quite hesitatant to take it wondering who might have left the envelope near the door, but my curiosity got the better of me and I couldn’t wait to see what was inside it. So I quickly took it and opened the envelope – and then started reading what was on the paper.

“Dear Jessie,
Don’t you know that your boyfriend Tom is with me? I am telling you, I am going to kill him within an hour. We are in the house of “Black Garden”. No one can ever save him…. hahaha
Bye darling“

Who the hell was he to write such a letter and to kidnap Tom? – I thought.
And then without the waste of any second, I took a torch and a knife in my hand and left the home running as fast as my legs could carry me. As far as I know, “Black Garden” house is said to be a vacant house for decades.

Whatever, I had no fear….I just wanted to kill that person who kidnapped Tom. I was out of control. Anyhow, I wanted to save Tom. He is so much to me…

Half an hour before, I reached to the house and so I quickly entered into the house holding the lighted torch and the knife in my hand. I was searching every room to find Tom.

Out of the blue, I heard a scary sound from the living room and saw a lurking shadow standing near the door…I didn’t see his face or body, just only the shadow.

I guessed it would be the person who sent the letter. So I went nearer to the door where he was hiding and then without a second thought, I gave an attack from his back with my knife and he suddenly fell down.

After that, I saw his face…my god! He was my Tom, the one I love. I was dumbfounded. My hands were shaking. I called for him with sobbing, but there was no answer from him. He was dead.

Then I suddenly caught a card that was in Tom’s hand. With tears I started reading the card.

“I know you are very scared to come to a house like this. But you guess what? I on purpose brought you here by scaring you…it’s because tomorrow is your birthday, so I wanted to give you a surprise by doing something unusual. Hope you enjoyed this surprise
Yours love, Tom…. xoxo”

I felt so stupid; when I found that it was just a prank he played to give me a surprise for my birthday. I couldn’t believe this. How foolish I am….I killed my lover with my hand. Oh…. So stupid! What a nice birthday surprise he gave to me.
