Run run run as fast as you can...

I could hear the pounding in my head as I ran. Beat beat beat. What was that rustle over there? Where is it? It could be surrounding me at this very moment. What is it you ask? To be honest I really do not know. It could be anything or anyone. My teachers, that strange lady that I saw on the road, even maybe my own sister. It could be anyone…Run run run I coaxed myself, thinking of the nursery rhyme, run run run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me. Thump thump thump my feet went as they hit the uneven soil. I could feel myself getting hotter and hotter and I thought that I would explode if I didn't stop. Keep going keep going!” I urged, it can’t catch you if you just keep going. But I knew it could and it would.

I had the feeling that if I didn't stop running I would drop dead on the spot. That’s better than letting it catch you I thought. I kept running until I could simply run no more. I stopped in a grassy clearing and took a deep breath but spluttered as my chest was too tight to breathe in yet. I took some short shallow breaths until my heart beat resumed its normal speed. Crrrraaack! I jumped as an enormous oak tree fell just a few metres in front of me. It was here. “W-who are you?” My voice being too loud for the silence that followed. “I-I know you’re here.” More silence. “Come out!” I was getting angry now. A bush rustled and a loud thunderclap sounded in the distance. I looked up expecting to see stormy clouds but all I saw was a bright blue sky stretching forever above me and I realized that that sound wasn’t a thunderclap but the voice of them. A small pebble hit me on the back of my head and I angrily whirled around expecting to see a person standing there but what I saw was not human...

"W-what are you?" I asked the floating black creature. It looked as if it was made of black fumes hovering above the ground. Its hollow eyes stared at me and I could not help but start to tremble. "L-l-leave me alone!" I shouted at it. Still no answer. It continued to float towards me until it was within hand reach. I could feel the cold aura radiating from within the deep black body. It kept coming towards me and I would have run but I was frozen to the spot, petrified of this magnificent yet terrifying creature. The creature opened its gaping mouth which had been hidden by the layers and folds of the black mist and said, "Michael, Michael! Wake up! You'll be late for school!" I opened one sleepy eye and breathed a sigh of relief. There was my dear mother standing over me with an annoyed expression on her face. I wistfully got out of bed and got dressed, assuring myself that it was only a dream.
Only a dream…
