Sitting on his nest, Fabio was thinking about his mate. She was killed due to poachers and now he is huddled over his three eggs wondering how he was going to raise them, especially in the hurricane that was about to pass right over them in the next week.

Fabio lived in the swamp. He loved to watch the alligators swim by underneath him while he sat on his nest. The next day the rain and wind was terrible, but Fabio was hungry and tired of stting on the nest so he went down to the water to find some fish to bring back to the nest to eat. While he was gone the wind was blowing so fast it knocked the nest right out of the tree. When Fabio went back up to the nest to put the fish in it he couldn't find it. He looked everywhere. Soon his wings got tired so he landed on a tree limb to take a break.

Fabio was getting really worried that he wouldn't find the nest. Night fell and he was extremely tired and soon fell asleep. The next day when Fabio woke up he saw that the water had risen almost five feet. He was so worried that the water could have drowned the nest or taken it somewhere far off. Fabio had no idea where he was even going to start searching. He flew and flew until he didn't know where he was. He didn't see trees or murky water. He was in the middle of the ocean with nowhere to land!

Finally after searching for hours to find something to land on, he found a buoy in the water and perched on that. Fabio's wings were aching and burning. It felt so good to rest. It was dark out and Fabio couldn't see a thing so he decided to sleep 'till the sun rose. He needed the rest so he could continue to try to find land somewhere. Well anywhere would be fine for him.

Fabio was up and searching when the sun was rising. He was not going to give up on finding his future children, he had already lost his mate. After many more hours of flying, with stops on buoys in between, he found land.

Fabio was giving up hope, when he saw something that looked like an eagle nest in a young boys hand with three eggs in it. He dove down to the nest and perched on the boy's shoulder cooing at him, thinking the boy would understand what he said. The boy looked at Fabio then at the nest and said, ''This must be yours. Let's see what I can do to help you. Just stay there on my shoulder and I'll get help.''

Fabio was placed in a widlife habitat with his nest and three eggs. A month later the eggs hatched, but only two survived. The other had too much damage from the wild journey it had been on. The two that survived, Maya and Sky, are very healthy birds.

The little boy works at the habitat with eagles, especially Fabio. They created a special bond between each other that will never be broken. Almost everyone in town goes to the habitat to see Fabio every Sunday after church. They all love him so much and he loves the attention. Fabio lives a very happy life now with his family and friends.
