I hear mama scream from the kitchen, "I done paid my rent this month and I don’t need nobody to tell me how I outta be a mama".

Mama always screaming in the mornings like a mad woman. It be hard for mama sometimes cause she don’t be making the rent on time and she don’t got no job.

"you tell me Ima owe's how much now?" Mamas voice getting louder. I walk slow down them steps. I take a peek and see she on the phone, mamas back be against the freezer. She look like me and I looks like her. Mama got smooth chocolate skin and big lips, they brown.

"oh mama I got good news, you wanna hear?" mama looked at me like I is crazy.

"you done interrupted me, see mamas on the phone Tiara" she scream again.

"sorry mama but I wanna tell you that I win the dancer competition" she look at me and laugh.

"you aint win no damn competition, you good for nothing" mama say. I almost cry, but I know if I do mama gonna want beat me. I reach in my pocket and pull out letter teacher give me at school.

"what that be right there?" mama ask me.

"a letta mama, says I win 10,000 scholarship money". My mamas eyes start glowing like she proud but I know she not.

"gimme that girl, what chu know bout all that damn money?" she hold that paper close to her heart. "I need money Tiara, you knows I do right?". I look at floor long and hard.

"answer ya mama now girl what I say?"

"yes mama you need the money" I say like baby.

"good girl, now I keep this money, you go to school and get that edumacation" I shrugs my shoulder and turn round and cry.

"you best not be crying now" mama walk over to me and slap me in the face. It hurt and It feel like burning. I push mama away and run out the house. I hear mama screamin but I do keep going, that’s all I does.

I walk to school and cry. I cry more and more and more loud. God said thou shall not steal. I know mama need that money but I needs that money more and she stole from me. Im only is 13 years old. My father done been in and out of jail my whole life. I aint never gonna get money back. I aint got not nothing to live for. Dont nobody understand me, not home, no school. I is dumb, and I is ugly. I got’s nothing to live for.
