Miracle
The beginning of term 1 of school, a new girl had started. I stared at her for a moment. Her eyes were as blue as the ocean and her skin as white as snow, although no one wanted to be her friend because she had no hair. The girl had cancer.
Everyone in class stared at her and gave her the look. I knew how it felt because I don’t have any friends. I never smiled and didn’t like anything. Everyone gave me the look they were giving her. I went and talked to her. Her name was Grace. She was a normal kid like everyone else. We happened to have a lot in common. Every day we hung out and I loved it. We got really close like sisters.
One day I decided to ask about her sickness and she had told me that everything was fine now. I believed her.
One night, it was raining almost as hard as rocks falling from the sky. At 8.45pm, I got a phone call which gave me the fright of my life. It was from the hospital telling me that Grace was in a bad condition. I drove to the hospital as fast as I could. I went in her ward and sat next to her, held her hand softly and cried. I whispered to her that everything is going to be okay. Every day I visited her and cried and kept telling her that everything will be okay. Until that moment had come. The doctors told me that Grace was on her last breath. My heart was broken and it felt like I was the one on my last breath. My heart stopped for a second.
I sat next to her and held her hand and told her “You are the only friend I have. You helped me and showed me what life is about. You taught me how to smile and live life. Please don’t take my smile away, stay, please.”
Then Grace took a deep breath and slowly opened her eyes. She held my hand tight. It felt like all my worries were gone, sun shone in my life again when I saw her eyes open. I called the doctors and they said it was a miracle. Grace had a miracle, she will survive.
A few months later, we both got to school. Grace’s hair was growing back. Kids in our school started to talk to us. We were both happy like we just won a lottery ticket except the lottery ticket, for us, was each other.
