Listen to that and tell me you didn't cry!
"Morning!" I called out through my best friends house from her back door, the same way I had done for the past nine years since my family moved into the house that was attached to the back of Georgia's. For the four years before that we lived with one house between us. It's safe to say we're pretty inseparable.
"Georgia still in bed, the lazy mare?" I asked Sam, Georgia's mum.
"Yes curlyfries" she responded as if it was obvious. She'd used the same nickname that she had used for as long as she could remember. I've never really understood it either because I have bone straight hair.
Bouncing through the hallway, I popped my head around the living room door and found Lottie, Georgia's 15 month old baby sister, sat watching the rugrats. Wow! How I've missed those babies!
"You okay Lottie-Pops?" I asked the cute toddler and she nodded enthusiastically without taking her eyes away from the screen. "Shall we go wake Georgia up?" This time I was greeted with a big slobbery grin. "I'll take that as a yes shall I Lottie?"
I held my hand out and waited for her to grab it with her surprising toddler strength. I took a sneak at the telly whilst I was waiting and saw it was the episode where tommy pickles was going through a, hem, 'natural' stage. After a few minutes, I realised I still had sensation in my hand so Lottie mustn't have held my hand yet. Turning to face her, I saw she had her two stubby little arms held up.
"Up moo, Lockie c'sant do Spairs yep!" She lisped. So I grabbed her and started to climb the stairs with her.
Standing outside Georgia's room I couldn't hear any movement so I placed Lottie on the landing and flung the door open. We cannonballed onto the bed and it was then that I realised she wasn't there. Every bad scenario started running through my head. Where was she? But then I heard her cackle. Normal people would say laugh but a) im far from normal and b) this couldn't be classed as a laugh. It was FAR too witch like. Pirouetting around, I found her doubled over at her desk.
"You-Should-Have-Seen-Your-Face!" She tried to muster out in between laughs. Anybody that knows me in our neighbourhood knows that when I get laughed at, I throw a paddy. Not a 'I'm spoilt and I shall throw a paddy to get what I want,' but a foot stomp, arms crossed, lip out paddy all the same.
"Hey, come here" Georgia said to me. So I grabbed Lottie and stalked over to her. When I got there she put a two pound coin in my bottom lip!
"What.The.Blinking.Hell.Are.You.Doing!?" I asked, well mumbled furiously as the coin was still in my mouth!
"Well Melissa, you see... Your paddy pout was the perfect new purse for me!" She stated, as if it was the most obvious thing ever. "Hey, Lottie, come here" she said, whispering something, probably evil, to her. I was right, because before I knew it I was being attacked by two pairs of tickling hands!
They just would not stop! No matter how much I begged and pleaded! In the end I had to bribe Georgia and tell her that if she didn't surrender then she'd be going shopping alone. But I had to play dirty with Lottie.
"Lottie look!" I said, pointing to the wardrobe. "Father Christmas!" As soon as she turned her head I took my only chance at freedom and ran. Getting to the bottom of the stairs I called up "GEORGIA CLAIRE TAYLOR! You have THREE seconds to be down these stairs or else you'll be shopping ALONE! 3....2...1!"
The distance from our houses and the shopping centre was only a ten minute walk so we decided to do just that and save our bus fare.
"Soo, where's lover boy Luke taking you?" I asked with a wink.
Blushing to a shade of startling pink, she replied, "Mellll, he's not Lover boy Luke! He's just Luke. And do you know that new under 18 club, Dreams That Glitter? There. Inside its glittery disco balls and dream catchers and fluffy clouds. You'd love it Melissy, you really would!"
"Well it better be good considering he's made us cancel our Saturday night sleepover, which has happened every weekend for the past seven years, but I'm not holding a grudge." I said holding my hands up. "Tell him that if he breaks your heart I'll cut his little man off AND break his Xbox or whatever he has, okay?"
After four hours of shopping, we were sat in 'dressin' up' hugging hot chocolates, desperate for some of their warmth to transfer. Georgia's out fit was to die for. It was a white dress with ruffles that would fly out whilst she was dancing and beautiful grey glittery shoes that I must just have to 'borrow' one time.
"Two ticks babe, nipping to the loo then we can get going yeah?" Georgia asked me. Giving her a look which hopefully said 'you is mad brav' I said" Georgia, in case it might have just slipped your attention a tiny bit, it's been snowing non-stop! I AM NOT MOVING!" I might have accidentally growled the last bit, but it's soo cold!
"Well I still need the blinking toilet!" She shot back, and walked off.
After waiting for twenty-five minutes she hadn't returned, so I decided to start walking back and hope she was there waiting. Putting my headphones in I started playing my favourite album, Katy Perry's One Of The Boys. I turned the volume up to full and started to walk. As I reached Georgia's I had decided I would walk through her front door so I could fly through after I'd given her, her bags and an ear ache. But as I opened the door I was stopped in my tracks. Georgia's shoes weren't In the shoe rack. That was really bad. But what was worse was Sam. She came rushing to the door. And her face was streaked with tears. What was going on?
"Sam, where's Lottie? Is she okay?" I asked, with about a million and one things rushing through my head.
"In the playroom. Can you sit with her please." She said, with no emotion In her voice, not giving me any inkling of what was going on. Walking through to the hallway, the way I had not five hours earlier, the atmosphere was completely different this time. Hanging my coat up I overheard a conversation taking place.
"No. It wasn't her."
"Are you sure Ms.Taylor?"
"Yes of course I'm bloody sure! I know what my own daughter looks like!"
Not wanting to hear anymore I went up to the playroom and found Lottie asleep in her pile of teddies. Grabbing her princess blanket, I placed it over her and sat in the rocking chair, remembering when Lottie was first born. Georgia and I would take it in turns to sit and watch her chest rise and fall and make sure she was breathing. Now, even though she was getting older I still watched her. She was getting so big! I wasn't sure how much longer I could use her to help me with my evil plots against Georgia.
About an hour later I stirred awake to the sound of Sam showing someone to the door.
"Yes thank you officer, I'll let you know." She said. I gave it five minutes and then went down and made her a cup of tea. Taking it through to her, I sat in the chair opposite her.
"Sam, what's wrong? I can listen If you want" I said, hoping she'd say something so I could put my mind at rest.
"Melissa, when was the last time you saw Georgia? Did you have a fight and she stormed off?" She asked, sounding genuinely worried.
"No Sam, we were fine. I last saw her when she went to the toilet, but she didn't come out. Why?"
B-b-be-because they found a young ladies body in the alley way by the cafe Dressin' up and they think it's Geo. Did you go to that cafe?"
I didn't know what to say. I couldn't say yes, that might mean it was her, but if I said no then where was she? "Yes, we had a hot chocolate there, and yes, that was the last time I saw her. But that doesn't mean it was her does it?"
Sam's face dropped. "Curlyfries, why don't you head home and I'll get her to phone you when she's home and ungrounded yeah? And could you take Lottie for me please in case I have to go out?"
"Yeah of course Sam. I'll go and grab her. But it's okay Sam. I promise."
