Samantha trudged into the Shop and Save store,
going to interview for a job that she wouldn't adore.

She was tired of living again in her hometown,
while she should have smiled, all she could do was sigh and frown.

The interview was aced she could start tomorrow,
but all she thought about was moving away from her sorrow.

They paid a bit more but it wasn't a bounty,
just enough for her to save for a bit and go back to Mercer County.

The first day on on the register she was quick to learn,
but then things started to take a odd turn.

His name tag read John, stationed at the end of register three,
he shot her a glance. She thought, "Who's he looking at? Me!?"

He started towards her, without a doubt,
and he said, "Hello. I'm here to help you out."

"H-hi."

So through the afternoon they scanned and packed food,
elevating Samantha's previously grouchy mood.

The trend continued for weeks on end,
and in each other they had found a confidante, a new friend.

John was working on his birthday and just shrugged it off.
But Samantha caught wind and started to scoff.

"John you shouldn't be here, go home and play!
Stop building this cup-o-soup display.
Just go home right now and relax,
let me worry about those little debbie snacks."

John winced and thought of the cut in his pay,
and replied with; "Sorry I'm here for the day."

Sam reached out and held him in a hug,
at that moment John knew it was her who he dug.

He wanted to ask her out but he was shy,
he knew he couldn't let this one get by.

Days passed quickly and they started to flirt.
Ignoring the customers shopping for frozen dessert.

Time went by and John hadn't asked her out,
he needed some advice to help him down this route.

Sam told him about going back to Mercer.

John went into the breakroom in quite a fluster
and addressed his co-workers sitting in a cluster.

"I want to ask Sam on a date,
but the words I can't find, I think I might be too late!"

"Just ask her out!" someone cried,
Johns look of frustration was certainly spied.

"I'll do it!" he yelled and turned on his heel,
to find the girl of his dreams and tell her how he did feel.

Samantha saw john walk down the baking aisle,
she knew what was coming and held back a smile.

"H- hey Sam..."

"YES!" she answered the question that hadn't been asked
putting an end to John's nightmare task.

"I'll go with you, you're so cute!
To hell with Mercer, I give it the boot!"

They wrapped together in an embrace,
cheek to cheek, face to face.

That was three years ago give or take a day,
now they've said their vows to love and obey.

That is their story and it has been told.
I'm glad I left Pennsylvania, it's too damn cold.
