How to SURVIVE
Born 2003, F, from London, CyprusTiger, the little American Indian, did not like being a child. He wanted to end his childhood by proving to his parents that he could survive all alone. So one day, his parents and the whole tribe realised that he was desperate. So they all left the village when he was sleeping. When he woke up, he realised that he was alone. He was scared because he didn’t actually mean to say that he could live alone. Tiger had a plan. He said to himself:
“I’m only 13! I could go into the forest and build myself a home out of wood and the roof out of dried grass and then when my parents and the tribe come back, they will think that I managed to survive alone and then I died or that I just left some where far, far away!”
So that was what he did. Three days went by quickly and Tiger had already built his little home. One day, he went outside to hunt for some food. And all of a sudden, he heard a noise coming from the bushes. Tiger was extremely scared!!! And then someone jumped out from behind the bushes. Tiger and the stranger both screamed! Then the stranger said:
“I’m so sorry! I did not mean to scare you! My name is Eagle and I’m running away from the cowboys!”
Tiger responded in a hurry:
“What?! There are cowboys chasing after us? No time to chat! Anyway my name is Ti-“
Tiger didn’t have any time to finish his sentence. They were being chased by cowboys! Tiger and Eagle started running away but they didn’t run fast enough. The cowboys caught the boys and took them down to see their leader. The cowboy leader decided to force them to do some things. And so he said:
“I have decided to make Tiger and Eagle change their names and become my slaves forever!”
So for twelve years Tiger and Eagle were not known as “Tiger and Eagle” but as “Billy and Brant” and they were still the cowboy leader’s slaves. They started to like the cowboy leader and they called him the C.L.C (Cowboy Leader Charlton). He was now like a friend to them. They sometimes called him “Old Pap”. The boys were no longer boys, they were men.
And one day, back at the Indian Tribe (where Tiger used to live), Tiger’s parents had come back. They realised that he was not there. Tiger’s plan had worked! His parents could not see him at all so they sent Tiger’s brother, Birdeye, over to come and look for him. Birdeye looked in the forest and saw the little home that Tiger had built. Birdeye had a look inside the little home to check if Tiger wasn’t hiding there. But rather then seeing Tiger, Birdeye saw someone else! The other person said:
“Hello, my name is Yikin.”
And Birdeye said:
“Yikin, is it really you? Are you really Yikin Trambony? The one that had to look after my brother Tiger?”
And Yikin answered:
“Yes it is me, and I know where your brother is! Just follow me and I will tell you what happened.”
Yikin started to tell Bird-eye what happened.
And he said:
“Once you and the tribe left the village, Tiger went straight to the forest and built himself a home and started living in there for fifteen years then he got chased away by cowboys and Tiger found a friend called Eagle. When the cowboys caught them they got taken to the C.L.C, cowboy leader Charlton. And the C.L.C made them change their names to Billy and Brant and he also forced them to be his slaves. And now Tiger and Eagle are friends with the C.L.C and they call him 'Old Pap’ which is a very stupid name. By the way, you know when I said that Tiger went straight to the forest and built himself a home? Well that was his plan in the first place. I’m very sorry Birdeye.”
Bird-eye responded, but he was very sad.
“Yikin, can I ask you something? How do you know?”
And Yikin said:
“I was sent to look after your brother for a reason. I was watching him. I know everything about everybody. Like, for example, I know that when you and the tribe weren’t here, you always pranked the tribe and you said that it wasn’t you!”
And Bird-eye said:
“You’re scaring me a lot! Could you please just stop spying?!”
Yikin laughed without responding. He just could not help it! He wanted to tell Bird-eye that Tiger and Eagle had started to catch the Indians. Bird-eye looked at Yikin. He knew that Yikin wanted to say something.
All of a sudden, there was a big silence in the forest. Then Bird-eye started to speak. He said:
“Where are the boys?”
Yikin said:
“The boys are at the C.C, the cowboy club, and they, they have started catching the Indians.”
Bird-eye started to cry and he said:
“Why did my parents and the tribe choose me? Why?”
He went off to look for Tiger and Eagle. But then he turned back and he started to head back to the Indian Village. He wanted to save his parents and the tribe to show that he was not a baby anymore and to show that his brother was one.
Suddenly he heard a girl’s voice.
The girl said:
“Hi, my name is Ivy and I do not like being here. Tell me what you’re looking for and I’ll find it. Oh, I get it, you must be looking for a cowboy called Billy, or was his real name Tiger? Whatever it was he’s very sweet and promised that I could become a cowgirl if I help do something for him. But I guess that I can’t tell you what it was because you may just walk away and tell the whole Indian tribe. So, do you feel like keeping a secret? Well I guess that you don't because you’ll tell everyone.”
Bird-eye was so desperate to find his brother and so he decided that he was going to fib. He told Ivy that he was going to keep the secret. Ivy told him that the secret was that Tiger wanted her to stop Bird-eye and his parents from finding him. Three years passed and Bird-eye still hadn’t found Tiger. And I think that that’s how my story is going to end.
