The Third-Floor Bedroom
By Sophia Brites
Prologue
It all began when someone left the window open. They began to fly out, one by one through the third-floor bedroom window. There was nothing anyone could do. The owners had gone, and they left that window open. They all came out, no one able to stop them. It was all over.
Chapter One
Amanda was so excited to move to a new house. She saw many pictures of that house, and it was pretty bland. She decided that she could make it as vibrant as possible. She would make the living room red, the dining room blue, the kitchen yellow, and the bathrooms green. At least that’s what she wanted to do, but she knew life would be great there.
Hope was sad she had to move. She begged her parents to stay, but they said no every time. Then Amanda showed her the house online. It was beautiful. (To Hope at least.) Then she saw the third-floor bedroom. She called it as her room. It was plain out beautiful.
When they got to the house, David was disappointed. The house seemed so much better, when it was online, but David decided that he should make the best of it, because it was the only way for Hope.
Amanda ran inside too, so excited to fix this house up. When she got inside, the house already had all the paint, and it was exactly how she imagined. Confused, she murmured, “ Well now I don’t have to pay as much.”
Hope ran inside and went up the stairs to the third-floor bedroom. When she got in there, she saw that the window was opened. She wondered why. The room was very bland, much more different than what she saw online, but she just said “ Oh well.” And stared out of the window, enjoying the beautiful sight. Hope saw a white fleck in the distance and wondered what it was. “Maybe a bird.” She murmured. As she turned away that tiny white fleck disappeared, off in the distance.
Chapter Two
It was the first night at the new house, and Hope was excited. She was just so excited. She stayed up late in her room, gazing at the amazing night sky. She finally got tired and decided to go to sleep. She crawled into a sleeping bag, because Amanda did not get the bed up the stairs, yet. They were still working on unpacking kitchen, and living room supplies.
Amanda, only twenty-seven years old, dropped out of of college when she heard about a girl on the streets, ten years old. Everyone thought she flunked out of college, because she was not smart enough, but she just wanted to save that girl. David knew that, and he said he be there for her from start to end even though people couldn’t see that.
Hope held her hands to her mouth, trying not to scream. During the night her walls had transformed. They were purple to begin with white doves on them, but the doves had disappeared. Hope shivered; it was cold in her room. She then realized that her window was open. She tried to close it only to find that it wouldn’t. She decided to ignore it and go down to breakfast.
Amanda screamed when Hope came down. Her face was missing an eye, replaced by an empty eye socket. Amanda blinked, and Hope’s face was normal. “ What’s wrong Amanda?” She replied by saying she thought she saw a rat. Confused and scared, Amanda asked what Hope wanted for breakfast, and Hope replied, by saying in a strangled voice, “ Help me…” Amanda turned around and saw nothing, no Hope. “Hope where are you!” She shouted. Nothing. No reply. “Hope?” Amanda said again. “Third-floor…window…bedroom…” A strangled voice whispered in her ear. Hope suddenly found herself hanging, from the the third-floor bedroom window. She was hanging from her feet, and the house seemed so high up. She screamed her loudest but, she knew no one could hear her. It was over.
Chapter Three
Amanda bent down on the ground. She was too late. She has never cried so much in her life. “where did you go David! Why did you leave me at the worst of moments!” Hope’s limp body was deathly cold in Amanda’s arms. She laid Hope’s body on the carpet in the living room, and draped a blanket over Hope’s body.
The next day…
Amanda was digging a hole with a shovel. She was sobbing so hard. Dirt was smeared on her face, and hands when she was finally done. The sun was high in the sky, and as bright as ever. Amanda went inside to get Hope’s body, only to find it gone. To confused and sad to do anything she took a shower.
As Amanda took a shower, the water felt nice and cold. But after a while, she heard a small whimper, and her cold shower, suddenly felt warm and sticky. She opened her eyes. Hope was standing in front of her, jaw hanging open, with empty eye sockets and small cuts on her face. Amanda screamed so loud, she felt as if the windows, would break. Hope disappeared, but the shower still felt warm and sticky and Amanda looked at it to see what was wrong. She screamed yet again. Blood was spilling from the shower, slowly filling up the bath tub. She tried to stop the shower but it was jammed. She ran out of the bathroom, and slipped on clothes.
She heard the shower stop and she ran down stairs. No more blood, just water. Amanda sighed, happy things were over. She decided that she was going to stay in town for a few days with her mom. She packed up.and went to the front door. There was a face behind the door. It was locked from the outside. Amanda knew this was not right. She ran to the third-floor bedroom. room and locked the door. But Hope was there, whispering, “ Do not leave me.” Amanda screamed…
Chapter Four
Twelve years later…
There was a house for sale near Daisy’s. It had a sale sign on it, but in had the words ‘Sold’ on it in big red letters. Daisy walked over to the house with some banana bread she baked. She rang the doorbell. A nice old lady answered the door. “Hi there. Are you from this neighborhood?” She said in her small voice. “ Of course I am!” Daisy replied with her most enthusiastic voice possible. “ I just wanted to offer you some banana bread, and say welcome to the neighborhood!” Daisy said, again in a enthusiastic voice. “Oh thank you! please come in, come in. May we have tea together in the third floor bedroom?” The old lady replied in a nice, kind voice. “ Oh my! some tea? I would be pleased!” Daisy smiled, and together they went to the third floor bedroom.
One week later…
“Where’s Mama, Lavender? Have you seen her? I miss Mama!” It was the week after Charlie got home from his grandma’s, and his mom has been gone for at least a day. “ I don’t know where Daisy- I mean your mama is” Lavender replied. Lavender was eighteen. She called her mom Daisy because she didn’t like calling Daisy mom because she felt weird doing that when she’s almost twenty.
Lavender decided to go around the neighborhood asking people if they saw this person. (She had a photo of Daisy.) She did half the neighborhood now, she only had five more houses left. She went to the one all the way down the street. An old lady answered the door. “Have you seen this lady?” Lavender asked. The old lady had a haunted look on her face. “Go away. Never come here again.” She slammed the door shut. “ Hello? Uncle Nathan?” Lavender was on the phone, calling Daisy. brother. “ We’re having a crisis, Can you come over?” “Sure.” Uncle Nathan replied.
Chapter Five
“Thank You so much for coming over, Daisy has been gone for at least a week! I find it very odd.” Lavender was talking to Uncle Nathan at the dining table. “Glad you called. I can come over anytime.” Uncle Nathan replied, in his gruff voice.
"Uncle Nathan! Can we have roast beef for dinner?" Charlie asked in his most infant voice. "Sure thing Charlie, but we'll have to go to the store!" Nathan replied. "He can stay with me if you want." Lavender suggested. "No way, not after what happened with Da-Daisy” His voice cracked when he said Daisy. Lavender felt real bad for him, even though she was filled with sorrow to.
It was at least a month ago, when they found her, on the driveway of the house one-nine-eight-two, at the end of the street. The third-floor bedroom window was open, with Daisy right beneath it. She was missing her arms and legs, and Lavender had to admit it was scary. They called nine-one-one, and the S.W.A.T. team came, knocking down the door. They never came out, and today the door is up and perfect and it’s like nothing ever happened.
A year later…
Everything has been fine so far. Lavender, she went to college, Charlie, he started kindergarten, and Uncle Nathan, he became a full-time parent. Charlie claims to be doing a fundraiser at school, and Lavender decides to help. She offers him twenty dollars from her savings, but Charlie says he wants to go around the neighborhood, selling cookies. Lavender hung up the phone. It was almost Christmas. She knew exactly what to do.
“Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la!” Uncle Nathan was singing a Christmas carol when Lavender got home. Charlie ran up the hallway shouting her name, and Uncle Nathan came lumbering from the kitchen. All seemed well.
Chapter Six
Charlie wanted to go sell christmas cookies around the neighborhood. Uncle Nathan refused, but then Lavender said she could go with him. She still has four days to spend with them before she goes back to college. Charlie and Uncle Nathan both noticed that Lavender has been talking on the phone a lot. They have heard her say words like “Honey” “Sweety” and others too.
Today’s the day. Thats all Lavender could think of. Today’s the day. Today is the day. She decided to break the news to Uncle Nathan during breakfast. Charlie ran down the stairs. “Lavender, I need to ask you a question.” “what is it Charlie? Lavender asked. “Why are you always on the phone?” Lavender’s face was surprised. She had not expected that. “Well Charlie, you should know better than that, asking nosy questions. Why would ever even ask that! just why are you so nosy. Just why.” She was walking away now saying the things half to herself.
There were pancakes flying around the room, syrup splattered on the plates. It was the morning before christmas. There was so much energy going around the house. They had sped through breakfast, giving no time to tell Lavender about her ‘thing’. She decided to pull uncle Nathan over just before he went around the neighborhood singing carols to everyone.
“Uncle Nathan?” Lavender asked nervously. “Yes?” He replied. M-m Michael is coming over today for the Christmas eve dinner with his family!” Lavender shouted in a speedy voice. “That’s fine, but who is this Michael.” “You will find out at dinner, he’s coming at seven.” Lavender sounded relieved when Uncle nathan said that. She ran to her room, shut the door and called . But then she realized she should call her friends and share the news.
Chapter Seven
Uncle Nathan rushed around the kitchen preparing the food. Charlie was setting the table. Lavender was chopping up vegetables. It was six forty-five. “We better get ready while dinner’s cooking!” Lavender shouted over the sizzle of the vegetables. She ran up stairs and put on her nicest dress.
A little while later, they heard the doorbell ring. Lavender ran down to get it. It was Michael. “Lavender! You look great!” “Thanks.” Lavender said. “Let’s go on a walk; dinner isn’t ready yet. A few moments later they were walking down the street. “How about you go down to that house and ask them if they have seen a small girl with pigtails walking around this neighborhood.” Lavender asked. “Is that a dare, ‘cause I’ll totally do it. Michael replied.
Michael ran up the steps of the house while Lavender hid behind a car close by. She listened to Michael, as he talked to the old lady. “Have you seen a little girl with blonde curly hair, at least four feet?” Michael asked. “Oh my, it’s awfully cold out can we discuss this inside?” The old lady asked. “Um sure…?” Michael said. They went inside. Lavender never saw him again.
She ran home crying. When she got home, Uncle Nathan was running around like a crazy man. “What happened they both said at the same time. “You go first.” Lavender said, while still crying. “Well, I was showing Michael’s family around the house, when they both started to scream and I passed out and woke up in the kitchen, and they were gone.” Lavender looked terrified. She started to speak. “I dared Michael to knock on someone’s door, and he did and they offered him inside because it was so cold, and I waited a little bit, then I heard a scream and Michael’s body fell out of the third floor bedroom window, all mangled, so I dug a hole and put his body in there and covered it up.” She burst out crying again, and ran to her room.
“Uncle Nathan? Where are you Uncle Nathan, and since when did we have a high up room with girly stuff, Lavender doesn’t live here anymore. Charlie wasn’t afraid in the room; a kind old lady was there with him she said everything would be alright, so Charlie trusted her. She gave him tea, but Charlie didn’t care; he was hanging out a window, very high up. He screamed so loud, but it was useless.
Chapter Eight
“Where is Charlie!” Lavender was screaming at the top of her lungs. “Why does everyone have to disappear!” She was sobbing. Uncle Nathan started talking. “You know, why don’t you go back to college, get your mind off of things.” Lavender screamed at him. “Why don’t you go back to college! You’re, just like, telling me to get out of the house! You know what? Fine! I’ll leave, and never come back! And I mean never come back!” She ran out the front door.
Four years later…
He found Charlie in a closet whimpering. He was in shock, and he said he had a terrible dream, where he fell from a third-floor bedroom window. A old lady had been with him in the room, saying everything would be all right, then she said hope would throw him out the window, and that’s when he screamed. He had saw a little girl with a dent in her head, as if she fell. Then right before he touched the ground a small bird whispered in his ear, “They will be back soon; go to the Brook Stream National Park, discuss the problems with the trees.” Confused Charlie hit the ground and woke up.
When Lavender got the phone call about Charlie, she ran to the hospital. She burst in and said “Let be visit Charlie Ri now!” She started to cry. “Please…” A Man at least a year older than Lavender said, “Calm down. Don’t you know he’s fine?” Lavender couldn’t stop crying. “I last saw him four years ago, and know when I get to see him again he’s in- in the hospital!” She burst out crying again. “You have to calm down, or you’re going to scare the patients.” Lavender started to shout. “Where is he! Do you know where? Please bring me to him! I- I…” The room spun around her, and Lavender fainted.
She woke up, in a hospital bed. Her head hurt and the world around her spinned as she tried to sit up. A white bird was on the edge of her bed. She heard a voice, but she could not understand it. She thought it was the bird. She tried to sit up, to get a closer look. As she sat up, she got more dizzy, and fainted, yet again.
Chapter Nine
The day after Charlie got back from the hospital he went to school. Even though he missed four years of school, Uncle Nathan insisted on putting him in fourth grade. For some odd reason Charlie felt as if he knew everything. When he went into the classroom, everything looked familiar. Charlie sat down at seat by a girl, and in a blink of an eye they were friends.
“What happened?” Lavender woke up in her college dorm, her friends standing over her. “You passed out after your first drink. We didn’t know what to do, so we brought you to your dorm.” Lavender felt confused. She looked out window. At least a dozen white doves were perched on the roof across from her dorm. She ignored it as if it was normal.
Lavender has been studying to be a interviewer. She finally got an assignment out of school, that she was supposed to do over April Break. She had to go around the block interviewing as much people as possible.
It was the first day of April Break. Charlie was going to sleepover at his friend, Riley’s house for the first time. They had just met on the second day. Riley absent on the first day. Charlie asked why, and Riley just answered “Personal.” Charlie didn’t know what he meant by that, but he didn’t care; Riley respected Charlie when he said he didn’t know what four times four was and just replied by whispering in his ear, “I stayed back a grade.” Then Charlie felt the same respect for him. “now we both have secrets; I don’t know my times table, and you stayed back a grade. Guess we’re even.” From that day on they were best friends.
“What is your first and last name?”
“Chantry Moses.”
“Are you married?”
“No.”
All Lavender could think of is if she could get a good grade on this. She really wanted to work for NBC News. It was her dream job, ever since she was six. “Do you inherit anything from long, long ago?”
“What kind of question is that?”
“Sorry I’m getting off track. Do you know any interviewers that I could visit?” “Yes their name is Jones Richard.” Lavender thanked her and walked away.
Chapter Ten
“Whoa look at that bird!” Charlie was taking a walk in Brooke Stream National Park. Riley was running up behind him. “I don’t see anything.”
What but it’s right over there! Look!” He pointed in the direction of the ‘bird’.
Suddenly Charlie heard someone speak. “Have you come with news Charlie Jones? Is it something important? The special ones never come here.” The specials ones? What is he talking about? Charlie thought, then said, “I have to use the bathroom, I’ll be right back.”
Lavender wa interviewing the last person. She was gritting her teeth; this was the house where Daisy and Michael died. Why am I doing this? She thought. Then she rang the doorbell. The old lady answered the door. “Hi I’m Lavender, from Reid University. I working as an interviewer. May I ask you some questions?”
“Sure thing Lavender. But can we talk inside?”
“No thank you. I’m perfectly fine right here.”
“But I insist. it’s awfully cold outside.” She started dragging me inside.
“Lord help me.” Lavender muttered.
Charlie climbed down a steep slope.
“I remember now. The bird told me to come here. They said talk to the trees. I didn’t know what it meant. But I understand now. you are a voice from the trees that will help me and my family. Charlie felt calm. He didn’t feel scared at all. “You are Wrong, little one. I am not the trees,” a white dove came down from the trees. It had no eyes or face. “I am one of the protectors.”
The inside of the house was beautiful. Vibrant colors, and everything was just perfect. Lavender was sitting at the dining room table with the old lady.
“What is your first and last name?”
“Amanda James.”
“Do you have any kids?”
Amanda gulped. “Yes. Her name is Hope.”
“Are you married?”
“No.”
So far everything seemed fine. No problems at all. I need to get out. I need to get out. I need to get out. That’s all Lavender could think of as she forced questions out of her mouth.
Chapter Eleven
The ‘dove’ made a small caw. “The third floor bedroom is where it all you can find out everything…” The bird flew away, but he could still hear it. “Just trust your instincts. I know you will know what to do.”
“But… Oh bird can’t you just tell me what’s going on!” Charlie was confused and lost and thought. He slowly lumbered up the steep slope. “Charlie! Charlie where are you!” It was Riley calling his name. “Over here! I’m over here Riley!” he said got to the top of the slope.
“No I really don’t want some tea, I am allergic.”
“Oh, but you really must; It says its gluten free, and non-gmo!”
“No thank you, and I really must leave!”
Lavender tried to run to the door, but it was shut, and locked. “No, please…” “Everything is going to be fine, darling. Hope is going to help you. She coming right now.” Lavender screamed and kicked down the door. She had done years worth of karate. It had finally come in handy. But before she could go anywhere else, a small white bird flew through the open third-floor bedroom window. It landed on Lavender’s shoulder. “It-it can’t be!”
The old lady was smiling, “You may leave, Lavender.” Lavender ran down the stairs, and out the door. “I think I want to be an artist.” Lavender muttered.
A day has passed since Charlie saw that ‘bird’. He tried not to think about it, but he couldn’t help it. One day, he blurted it all out in the classroom. His responses were, “Are you crazy!” “That is not possible!” ”Liar, Liar! Pants on fire!” Charlie was glad they thought he lied. He did not want to go to the school therapist. That lady was Weird. He thinks it is the lady who lives down the road. Then Charlie realized that was the lady who lived down the road, and that was the lady who had supposedly killed Daisy, and Lavender boyfriend, Michael. Charlie was creeped out.
It was Saturday, April twentieth. Uncle Nathan decided to go around the neighborhood selling banana bread. Charlie asked to come along. “Sure thing kid.” His answer was simple, but he had no idea that what was coming up is not. “Uncle Nathan? Do we have to go around the whole neighborhood?”
“Yes of course we do.“ Uncle Nathan was looking at the houses. Charlie got scared and ran home. Uncle Nathan had no idea why, but he just went on selling bread. Charlie kept on running afraid of what was going to happen.
When he got the house, he screamed, and so did the girl.
Chapter Twelve
“Charlie calm down! She’s my friend no one is breaking in!” Lavender had went to the store, and when she came back, Z0ë had been waiting in her car. Charlie stopped screaming and went to his room. “I’m so sorry Z0ë; I didn’t know he would react like that.
When Charlie came down, Lavender was there. Even though he was confused at why she was there, he shouted “Lavender! I’m sorry.” He ran up and hugged her. “Well anyway, this is Z0ë. We’re friends. In fact I met her yesterday.”
“C-can I talk to you privately? Lavender?” He told about everything that happened at Brook Stream National Park, and what he saw when he came home. “Wow.” Lavender told him about her scary time at the house, because he had that terrible dream about it, and was gone for four years. Charlie looked stricken. Then he fainted.
“I’m so sorry Charlie.” Lavender couldn’t stop talking to Charlie. She and Uncle Nathan carried him up the stairs. “You just had to tell him, Lavender, you just had to tell him." Uncle Nathan had gotten home just after Charlie fainted. “Excuse us, we will meet in just a sec.” He told Z0ë that it was ‘personal things’ then left to help Lavender. "He's in fourth grade, for crying out loud! Oh and Zoë is coming over today, because we are both staying here, and she's going to drive me to college everyday. She owns a car." Lavender was smiling. In fact she was grinning from ear to ear. "Who is this Zoë you are talking about." Uncle Nathan was staring at Lavender suspiciously. Lavender said in a simple voice, "She wants to be a interviewer too. She came into class today and I helped her, because she didn't what we were doing. Now she knows everything. Oh my gosh I just forgot, We are starting an internship in summer! I am soooo excited!. And that was Z0ë right down the stairs.” They put Charlie in bed, and went back down to talk with Z0ë.
“Are you there birdie? That person scared me. Please help me…” Charlie was walking around, in a forest. It was at least midnight; twelve o’clock. “i’m scared… I’ve never been here before.” There was a rustle in the bushes behind him. “Wh-who’s there. P-please just come out. I’m scared!” Charlie started to cry, he started to whine, he started to sob. He couldn’t help himself. “Hush little one we will come soon.” The voice was from afar, but it made Charlie feel better. But then the girl came again… Charlie screamed, then woke up someplace else.
Chapter Thirteen
“Thank you soooo much, Zoë.”
“Isn’t that what friends are for!”
“Of course!” Lavender and Zoë were having a happy conversation; they had no idea what was coming up…
They heard Charlie scream, or what they thought was Charlie; he screamed in a high pitch scream like a girl. Lavender said she would be right back, and ran up the stairs. A girl with brown hair, green eyes, and was about the age of Charlie, replaced Charlie in his bed. Lavender was taken by surprise. The girl said “I-I’m Hope. Do you know anyone named Amanda?” The girl asked the question as if everything was normal. Nothing was normal. Lavender thought nothing would be normal again. “Hold on a sec sweetie. Did you say Amanda?”
“Y-Yes.” Lavender stared at her as if manners weren’t real.
Charlie wandered around in this familiar house. He couldn’t speak. he felt as if he had no vocal cords at all. But he could think. He could think a lot…
What is this place? It seems so familiar. Then it hit him. This was Amanda’s house, it was the one he had the dream of. That terrible, terrible dream. Suddenly he could speak. “Hello? Is anyone there?” Charlie walked down the stairs. Amanda gasped. “What-what happened to Hope?” Amanda looked scared, but she calmed down. “You are Charlie aren’t you?” Yes, yes. I see now. Hope wanted to switch.” Charlie had a sudden craving for souls. “Feed me souls our I eat you!” Charlie started barking directions at Amanda. She ran and made a phone call. “Twelve.” She said as if everything as normal.
“Alright Hope. Let’s get you home.” Lavender was leaving the house with Zoë and Hope as if everything was normal. It was not. They went down the street. “Here it is, Hope your home.” Hope stared at it blankly. “This ain’t my home, my home was in the middle of the woods.” Lavender just stared at Hope. “You said Amanda James right?” Hope nodded. “Well then this is it, come on just knock on the door.” Hope looked up at Lavender. “Alright.” She said.
Charlie liked to hang on the ceiling. It was fun. Yesterday, he ate his very first soul. It was disgusting. The doorbell rang. Amanda rushed to get it. “Hello?” Amanda started crying. “Hope!” She exclaimed and grabbed this very familiar person. “Thank you so, so much!” She closed the door. “Charlie come down from there.” Hope looked pretty as a real girl. Charlie liked her. But he also hated her. Amanda had told him that in his dreams, Hope had ‘switched lives’ with him. He stared at her for a while. He slowly climbed down from the ceiling. He punched her in the face, and shrieked at her, “GIVE ME MY SOUL BACK! I WANT TO BE A REAL BOY!” Charlie grabbed her and threw her in the the third-floor bedroom.
Chapter Fourteen
“Uncle Nathan! Can you make us some eggs!” It was a early morning in Georgia, just about nine o’clock. Lavender and Zoë had set up a prank for Uncle Nathan. They had turned the really hot water into really cold water, and the other knob was still cold. And their shower was, a room with just a shower, like the room was the shower. They had set it up so that he could not unlock the door, and he could not turn of the water, This would be funny. “Alright kids, but first I am going to take a shower. Can you wait?” The girls giggled. “Sure we can.” They replied.
The plan did not work. Charlie tried all night to enter Hope’s dreams. He did not do it. He hated being a spirit. He felt as if he was hungry, but he was not. He felt as if he was dirty and needed a shower, but he didn't. He felt no emotions at all. He only shouted at Hope, but that didn't mean he was angry. He wanted to have his feelings back. Now. He decided to look through Amanda’s library for a solution.
Lavender and Zoë sat at the table, happily eating eggs. Their plan had worked. In fact, Uncle Nathan was still shivering. He had put on a cat and pants, to retrieve his warmth. “Wait a sec! Where’s Charlie!” Zoë looked surprised. “I- I completely forgot!” They started to frantically run around the house shouting his name. “I can’t believe I forgot! Even when Hope was in his room. I can not believe it!” They stopped running. “Let’s search the neighborhood.” As they walked out of the house Zoë said, ‘I can’t believe Nathan didn’t noticed anything!” Lavender looked surprised. “He has hearing aids, that he sometimes turns off.” Zoë mouthed the words ‘Oh.’ They slowly walked down the street in silence only talking when they asked questions to their neighbors.
Chapter Fifteen
They started to fly towards it, from every location. No one could stop them, no one could see them. They were silent as they flew, even their wings made no noise. The leader, one of the first protectors, came up front and signaled the other protectors where to go. This was an emergency. They had no idea that if they flew out the third floor bedroom window, chaos would happen. It was their duty to protect the humans from the demons. The leader had spoken to a small boy in the woods. He said there was trouble. The leader flew to his location. It was the house. He saved a girl who was in danger. He knew what he had to do. They must do their jobs. It was the worlds only hope. He did not need all of them only for the third floor bedroom. He sent some to Africa, some to England. Now he was ready, now he was close. Finally they were in the neighborhood. they went down to the third floor window. he told the strongest of them to knock. Something banged on the window. It was Hope. she was trying to scare them away. She did not want to die.
Charlie had gotten to her. He was human. But something felt wrong. He felt a strong sort of power coming from up stairs. He ran up the steps, only to find ‘demon’ Hope banging on the windows. He shouted her. “Stop! They are here to help.” The white birds with no faces were surrounding the house. Hope stopped and slowly unlocked the windows. She stopped reaching up when she heard a knock on the door. Charlie ran down, and opened the door. “Lavender!” he hugged her, just as Hope leaped down the stairs, and knocked her out. “No!” Charlie screamed and ran up the stairs.

The Third-Floor Bedroom(Sophia B)
