Flies performing aerobatics.

It was a hot and sticky day. Four flies were performing miniature aerobatics just beyond the glass of the window, where a white cat was asleep on the sill, her tail whisking to and throw from time to time, and thus inspiring ripples into a relaxed spiders web, which itself cast a light trembling shadow onto the dusty pane. Across the meadow, where a light breeze inspired waves across the unkempt grass, the arc of the horizon framed a sea of turquoise blue, a lone tree breaking the view, as if placed there by an artist, as an afterthought to their composition. It was almost four o’clock, and a heat haze shuffled the air in silver flecks above the nose of a red car parked below. I gazed out upon the scene, and took up yet another pencil to sharpen, my usual way of wasting time before I grudgingly get down to find something else to amuse me, instead of actually working, after breakfast. Working? Is that the correct description of what I do? Probably not. I suppose that work comes into it somewhere, but where, I really could not say. A typical day - is there such a thing?- starts slowly, proceeds slowly and then jerks to a stop at some point where I get bored with ‘serious’ stuff and my mind wanders into a more interesting phase. It has always been like this, the possibilities of life are much more exciting than the intricacies of doing work, and frankly, I have no need to work really, so I think, instead. But then, thinking is also work, I think. Although, as nothing active is visually taking place, few folk will acknowledge this, often assuming that laziness has set in. And quite often it has, but laziness conserves energy, which must be a good thing too. Who really wishes to waste energy, when it is much better directed to being saved for some more important application? Running out of energy is a constant fear, as without the energy and application, I would never get any work done, should I ever start on any. And application is another thing, as applying energy to thinking has a negative effect on one’s ability to operate at full throttle, especially on those things which are so important in life, such as observing flies performing aerobatics, lazy cats on window sills, spiders webs on neglected dusty windows, and the unchanging horizon on a hot day, viewed across a grassy meadow, and where the air ripples in the heat are constantly reflected from a bright red sports car. Well that’s it - work finished!
