Case 7 - To Frame a Cop
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesCaptain Graves called J.P. Bullet, Harvey Lucas, Antonio Perez, Rebella Howard and Tina Cassidy into his office. A sophisticated crook had been robbing stores by cutting the phone lines and then using glass cutters to make entry into buildings taking the loot and then leaving. Captain Graves assigned the case to the Special Investigation Department.
J.P. was walking down the hall. Officer Lawrence came up beside him. “I can tell you right now who the thief is, Lawrence.” “Who, do you think it is?” asked Lawrence. “The crook is none other than Rebella Howard. She use to be jewelry thief and she has been playing the four of you, so you would trust her,” said Lawrence. “Do you have any evidence to prove she was the thief?” “No sir,” said Lawrence. “Around here, we don’t accuse somebody of doing something without evidence,” said J.P. “Don’t believe me but when you find out it is her, I am going to tell you I told you so and rub it in all of your faces,” said Lawrence.
J.P. was suspicious of Lawrence, so he decided to follow him. Lawrence went to Rebella’s house and dug a small hole, buried some stolen jewelry and left.
After Lawrence buried the jewelry, he called Alister Crane to tell him that he had buried the stolen jewelry in Rebella’s yard to frame her. “Very good, now convince those police officers to search her property. Pretty soon Rebella Howard will be out of the picture,” said Alister with an evil laugh.
J.P. returned to the 169th Precinct. He called the others into the detective’s office. “Lawrence is trying to frame Rebella,” said J.P. “Let’s arrest the little rat,” said Rebella. “Not yet, let’s play his game and see where it leads us. Tina, I want you and Rebella to go to Bronx and stay at your parent’s house until me, Harvey, and Antonio can find out what is going on.
Tina and Rebella went to Bronx. “This is where you used to live?” asked Rebella. “I sure did. This is my old home, said Tina pulling up to a house that was beginning to fall down. “This place looks like a city dump,” thought Rebella. Tina knocked on the door. Lilly Cassidy opened the door. “My baby girl!” said Lilly with excitement. She hugged Lilly. “I am taking a vacation, so I thought I would come for a visit. I want you to meet my friend Rebella. Could she stay with us?” asked Tina. “Any of your friends are welcome to stay,” said Lilly.
Tina and Rebella went upstairs to Tina’s old bedroom. They set their suitcase on the bed. “You are going to like it here and we are going to have so much fun!” said Tina. “I am sure I will” said Rebella sarcastically.
Lawrence called Alister Crane. “We have a problem,” said Lawrence. “You know I don’t like problems, Mr. Lawrence and do you know what I do with problems?” asked Alister. The tone of Alister’s voice scared Lawrence. “No,” said Lawrence. “I get rid of them,” said Alister. “Sir, I am not sure how you want me to handle it,” said Lawrence. “Are you so incompetent that you need me to come do the job myself?” asked Alister. “No sir. They moved Rebella to another location so it will be hard to pull off another heist,” said Lawrence. “I paid good money to bribe people to get you into the police academy, now use the skills you learned to solve the problem,” said Alister slamming the phone down. “Why do I always end up with incompetent idiots,” said Alister.
J.P. Harvey and Antonio were in the detective’s office. “Harvey, Antonio, I want you to go home and get some sleep. Officer Lawrence is on duty tonight. “I thought he was on day’s shift,” said Harvey. “He was but he asked his superior officer to let him work graveyard to try and catch the jewelry store thief. He is trying to frame Rebella, and I want to know why,” said J.P.
Tina brought a bowl into the bedroom. “What is that?” asked Rebella. “It is for a facial mask,” said Tina, who started putting it on her face. “It looks gross,” said Rebella. “Come on, try it,” said Tina. Rebella put it on her face. “Now what,” said Rebella. “Just sit back and relax,” said Tina.
Harvey and Antonio followed Officer Lawrence. “I just wonder how many nights, we are going to have to do this,” said Harvey. A call came over the radio of a break in at a jewelry store. When Harvey and Antonio got to the scene they found that the telephone wire was cut and someone had made entry with a glass cutter. It was just like the other robberies. Harvey called J.P.
The next morning J.P., met with Captain Graves. “Captain, Officer Lawrence is trying to frame Rebella. He buried the stolen jewelry in her yard and got someone else to do last night’s heist,” said J.P. “Where is Rebella?” asked Captain Graves. “I sent her and detective Cassidy to a safe location,” said J.P. “Do you have enough evidence to arrest Lawrence?” asked Captain Graves. “If I had a search warrant and could search Rebella’s property, I would have what I needed,” said J.P.
Tina and Rebella were eating breakfast with Tina’s parents. “You know, that facial actually worked on my skin,” said Rebella. “I used to do it all the time, but now I only do it every once in awhile,” said Tina. “We need to hang out more,” said Rebella. Tina had a surprised look on her face. “I have a confession. I think if I had grown up like you did, from a poor family rather than a rich family I might have avoided a life of crime. When you don’t have anything, it does not bother you when you see something to look at how pretty it is and walk away. When you come from a family like mine anything you see, you want, and you do anything to get it,” said Rebella.
Tina’s cell phone rang. She saw it was J.P.’s number, so she answered it. “They had a break in the case. J.P. needs us at the office.” “Sorry, mom and dad but we need to go,” said Tina. “Don’t be sorry for needing to go to do your job baby,” said Lilly. “It was nice to meet you and thanks for your hospitality,” said Rebella. Tina hugged her parents as she was leaving.
J.P. got a search warrant to search Rebella’s property. He requested Officer Lawrence to assist in looking for the stolen property. J.P. and the other officers went into the house. Lawrence went to where he buried the jewelry and started digging. “Looking for these?” asked J.P. holding up a piece of stolen jewelry. J.P. arrested Lawrence.
Lawrence was processed and J.P. interrogated him. “Who robbed the jewelry store last night?” asked J.P. “I don’t know, but I bet it was Rebella especially since you discovered the stolen jewelry on her property. J.P. went to the door. “Tina come here a minute,” said J.P. Tina came into the interrogation room. “Tina where was Rebella last night?” asked J.P. “She was in Bronx with me,” said Tina. “Now I know what you are thinking. You are thinking I am trying to protect Rebella by creating an alibi. J.P. opened the door again. “Rebella come here for a minute,” said J.P. Rebella entered the room. “Where were you last night?” asked J.P. “I was in Bronx with Tina,” said Rebella. “Now who robbed that jewelry store, last night?” asked J.P. “I-I-I don’t know. Up until last night I was the only one robbing the jewelry stores. Alister was trying to get Rebella out of the way. There was not supposed to be any robberies last night,” said Lawrence. J.P. started laughing. “What is so funny?” asked Lawrence. “The mess you are in,” said J.P. “What do you mean?” asked Lawrence. “Alister hired you to frame Rebella when he found out we took her to another location then that meant that you did not do your job and Alister turned on you,” said J.P. “What are you going to do now?” asked Lawrence. J.P. pulled out his handcuffs. “Rebella would you like to do the honors,” asked J.P., handing her the handcuffs.
Rebella went home to unpack. As she started towards the house she noticed something sparkling on the ground. It was a pair of 3.23 ct. diamond earrings. She picked them up. She was tempted to put them on.
Rebella took the earrings down to the precinct so they could be returned to their rightful owners.
The next morning Rebella, Harvey, Antonio and Tina were getting coffee. Rebella was kinda down. “That was the most beautiful pair of earrings, I have ever seen. J.P. came in to get a cup of coffee. He patted Rebella on the back. “I am very proud of you,” said J.P. He poured a cup of coffee and left the room. “Tina, what are you doing this weekend?” asked Rebella. “I don’t have any plans,” said Tina. “Do you want to hang out, put pjs on, do facial, and talk about boys?” asked Rebella. Antonio and Harvey looked at each other. “That sounds like fun,” said Tina. Antonio and Tina left the room. “I got something for you,” said Harvey. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a little black box and handed it to Rebella. She opened the box and gasped. “These earrings are beautiful!” exclaimed Rebella, “I know they are not like the ones you had to turn in, but I saw them and thought they were as beautiful as you,” said Harvey. “Oh Harvey! They are beautiful,” said Rebella. She gave Harvey a hug. Tina was standing in the doorway. “Harvey has a girlfriend! Harvey has a girlfriend!” teased Tina. “Shut up Tina!” said Rebella and Harvey together.
