Case 15 - Life on the Street
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesTina Cassidy was sound asleep dreaming sweet dreams when her alarm clock went on. She reached over and turned it off and dozed back to sleep. A little while later, she glanced at the clock. “Man! I am going to be late for work,” said Tina. She jumped out of bed, put her jeans on, put her badge on her pants pocket, and rushed into the bathroom to fix her hair. She barely arrived at the 169th precinct on time. She looked down and realized she had not changed her shirt and went to work in a sleeveless pink tank top. “Oh man!” thought Tina, to herself. She was fixing to walk out the door, to go home right quick, and change. Inspector J.P. Bullet came in just as she was turning around to walk out the door. “Good Morning Sunshine! You look very beautiful this morning,” teased J.P. kissing her on the cheek. He took a few steps and turned around and came back. “I forgot you don’t like being kissed like that,” said J.P. and he kissed Tina on the lips. “I overslept then I got in a big hurry and I forgot to change my shirt,” said Tina looking embarrassed. “Here, put this on then go home and change,” said J.P. taking his jacket off and putting it around Tina. She put J.P.’s jacket on and went home and changed. After she changed clothes and was getting ready to go back to work, she smelled of the jacket. What are you doing! She thought to herself.
Tina went back to the 169th precinct and handed J.P. his jacket back and thanked him for letting her borrow it. “I am going to go get a cup of coffee and be right back,” said Tina to J.P. She went into a room beside dispatch to get coffee. Inspector Rebella Lucas was pouring a cup. She saw Tina and took out a styro cup and poured Tina a cup. “Can I talk to you in private?” asked Tina. “Sure,” said Rebella and they stepped outside. “I did the dumbest thing this morning,” said Tina. “What did you do?” asked Tina. “I forgot to change my shirt before I came to work. J.P. let me borrow his jacket long enough for me to go home and change. When I finished changing, I - I - smelled of the jacket,” said Tina hanging her head in shame. Rebella put a big smile on her face. “That look scares me,” said Tina. Rebella patted her on the back. “You are head over heels in love with him,” said Rebella. “I-I-I kinda like him and he is cute,” said Tina. “Girl, you are so much in love with him that you are beginning to talk like him,” said Rebella. “What do you mean?” asked Tina. “What did you just say,” said Rebella. “I said that look,” she paused for a moment “Oh-my-gosh that is exactly what he would say,” said Tina. “Exactly,” said Rebella starting to walk back into the precinct. Tina stood there with a confused look on her face.
J.P., Harvey, Rebella, Susie, and Tina were in the detective’s office. Officer Mallet opened the door and stuck his head in. “J.P. there is someone here to talk to you. They are in interrogation Room 3,” said Officer Mallet.
J.P. and Susie went to Interrogation Room 3. There was a young lady in her late twenties waiting to speak to them. “I am inspector Bullet and this is Detective Young,” said J.P. The young Lady introduced herself as Candice Harper. “I have done something real stupid and now my daughter’s safety is endangered,” said Candice. “Tell me what happened,” said J.P. “My daughter is five years old and some of her friends had email accounts set up so they could email each other back and forth. I set up an account for my daughter so she could email her friends. Somebody got her email address and sent her this,” said Candice handing J.P. a copy of the email. J.P. read the email. Susie was looking over his shoulder reading it. “That is sick”, said Susie. “What do I need to do?” asked Candice. “I need you to give us permission to use the email account and don’t set anything else up until we see if this is a random case or there is someone out to get your daughter,” said J.P. Candice handed J.P. a piece of paper with her username and password on it.
J.P. and Susie went back to the detective’s office. Susie had an angry look on her face. “What's wrong?” asked Tina. “The case we are fixing to start working on. This sick low-life perverted piece of trash is trying to solicit a five year old girl,” said Susie. J.P. set the email on the desk. Tina reached across and read it. Her face started turning red. “Why would anybody write this?” asked Tina. She passed it over to Harvey for him to read. He passed it down to Rebella for her to read. “Ok, we need to come up with a way to find this creep before he hurts someone,” said J.P. “I have an idea,” said Rebella. She went over to the computer and wrote a reply to his email. A few minutes later, she got a response back from the suspect. She wrote back again and asked him to meet her. The suspect quickly replied back and gave an address to meet.
Rebella went to the meeting place. J.P., Harvey, Susie, and Tina stayed out of sight but were ready to move in when the suspect showed up. He never showed up.
The next morning Rebella had an email. The suspect apologized for not showing up. He claimed he had a business meeting to attend and wanted to know if Rebella would still meet him. Before Rebella could respond to the email J.P. came into the detective’s office. He sat a case folder on the desk. “We now have a missing person. Georgeyanne Wilder, she is 18 years old and works the street. Her mother said she did not come home last night,” said J.P. “Where were this child’s parents?” asked Harvey. “Her parents are divorced and her mom also works the streets and allowed her daughter to do it as long as she was home by midnight,” said J.P. “That has got to be the sickest thing I have ever heard,” said Harvey. “J.P., I got an email he said he was on a business trip,” said Rebella. “Do you think the two are connected,” said J.P. “I sure do,” said Rebella. “I have an idea. But you are not going to like it,” said Tina. “What?” asked J.P. “What if I went undercover and talked to some of the girls working the street and see if I could get a lead,” said Tina. “You're right, I don’t like your idea, but it may be the only way we can get this dirt bag off the streets,” said J.P.
Tina put on a short top, shorts and boots. For her protection, she wore an ankle holster with a revolver which was concealed by her boots. She walked down the street and was very nervous. She even began to regret volunteering for the assignment. She saw a girl named Misti working the street. Tina went over to where Misti was standing. “I have not seen you before,” said Misti. “Oh, I usually work uptown but there were too many cops hanging around,” said Tina. “Oh, okay, I am Misti,” she said shaking Tina’s hand. Tina told Misti her name and the two started walking along. “So why did you start working the street?” asked Tina. “For money, I can make more money on the street than I can working a regular job,” said Misti. Tina did not say anything. “So why, do you work the streets?” asked Misti. Tina did not know what to say, but what Misti said sounded good. “Same Reason,” said Tina. They walked down the street a little further. “Have you worked with my cousin Georgeyanne Wilder?” asked Tina. “Oh, yes, I just saw her the other night. She got in a car with Vernon Seaborn. He is a regular down here. He picks up girls and they are never seen again,” said Misti.
J.P. came through the neighborhood to check on Tina. When he stopped Misti came running up to the car. “I want that girl over there,” said J.P. pointing to Tina. Misti went back and told Tina that he wanted to see her. Tina went up the car. “I got a lead. Georgeyanne got in a car driven by Vernon Seaborn. Supposedly, girls that Vernon picks up are never seen again,” said Tina. J.P. took out his wallet and gave Tina a $20 bill. “Here’s a tip,” said J.P. taking out a $5 bill. She put the money in her boot and walked off.
The next morning at the 169th Precinct, J.P. asked Harvey to check and see what he could find on Vernon Seaborn. Harvey came back into the detective’s office a few minutes later. “I have an address,” said Harvey. “Let’s go,” said J.P. putting on his jacket. J.P. Tina, Harvey, Rebella, and Susie went to the address. “Do you think he is home?” asked Harvey. “One way to find it out: Rebella, see if you can find out if Vernon is home,” said J.P. Rebella walked down the street. She tried to find some place out of sight but could get a visual. She could not locate a good sight, so she went and knocked on the door. “Can I help you?” asked Vernon. “I am new here and I was looking for Maplewood,” said Rebella. “It’s right down the street,” said Vernon, pointing the direction she needed to go. “Thank you,” said Rebella and she started walking down the street. Vernon closed the door. When Rebella was far enough down the street where she could not be seen, she called J.P. “He’s there,” she said. J.P. and the others moved in and made entry into the house and arrested Vernon without an incident. “Where is Georgeyanne Wilder?” asked J.P. “She is out there in the storage building,” said Vernon. Rebella escorted him to the car while J.P. and the others went into the backyard. Harvey picked the lock and opened the building. When they opened the building, they found Georgeyanne and seven other girls locked in the building.
Back at the 169th Precinct, Tina handed J.P. his money back. Rebella, Harvey, and Susie had a strange look on their faces. “It is not what you think,” said Tina. Rebella put a smile on her face. “That look scares me,” said Tina. Nobody said anything. “All right if you want to see it,” said Tina and she started kissing J.P. Harvey, Rebella, and Susie was looking at each other. “You could have done better. Let me show you,” said J.P. putting his arms around Tina and kissing her passionately. Rebella motioned for Harvey and Susie to follow her and they left the detective office. “They are gone,” said Tina when J.P. stopped kissing her. “I Know,” said J.P. who kept his arms around her. “I was just admiring your beautiful eyes and smile,” said J.P. Tina blushed at what was said.
Harvey, Rebella, and Susie were getting coffee. “Are you thinking what I am thinking?” asked Harvey. Rebella and Susie shook their head yes. “They are in love with each other,” they said together.
Vernon Seaborn was found guilty on eight counts of kidnapping and one count of soliciting a minor. He was sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
