Case 18.5 - Lost
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesInspector J.P. bullet, Harvey Lucas, Rebella Lucas, Tina Cassidy, and Susie Young were on a scene of a bank robbery. In looking for clues Officer Mallet came across a Jack-in-the-Box and brought it to J.P. “I don’t like the look of this,” said J.P. turning the handle. The box popped open and out came the jack with a note attached. He took the note off the Jack. “You are challenged to a game of locate the stolen loot. Go to Jersey City Park. Signed Hyena,” said J.P. “I remember that rat. Brandon’s henchmen stole a safe; Hyena and his crew stole the safe from them and challenged Brandon to a competition. The winner would get the contents of the safe and the loser would leave town. Through trickery, Brandon got officers Baldwin and Stan to help him win the competition and take down Hyena,” said Rebella. “What happened to the contents of the safe?” asked Harvey. “Brandon picked up a sack that he thought was the contents of the safe and made his getaway. Baldwin and Stan found another sack. The sack that Brandon found had a sandwich in it and the one that Baldwin and Stan found had the contents of the safe,” said Rebella.
“I and Tina will go to Jersey City Park and see what kind of game Hyena’s playing. Susie, you will be encharge until we get back,” said J.P. “Me, sir?” asked Susie nervously. “Yes,” said J.P.
J.P. and Tina went to Jersey City Park. One of Hyena’s henchmen was sitting on the bench pretending to read the newspaper. When he saw J.P. and Tina, he got up and started following them. J.P. and Tina found a painted yellow line in the dirt. The henchman walked up to the yellow line and stopped. He reached in his coat and pulled out an envelope and handed it to J.P. and then he just stood there like a bump on a log. J.P. opened the envelope which had a piece of paper with more instructions. “Follow the orange arrows on the tree, but be aware of booby traps,” read J.P.
J.P. and Tina started following the arrows. The henchman followed him. It led them out of the park and into the woods. They came up on a jack-in-the-box. J.P. suspected it was a trap and they started running in a different direction away from the jack-in-the-box. The henchman sniggered and reached in his coat and pulled out a remote controller and pushed a button. The jack-in-the-box opened and out popped a jack holding a flag that said boom.
J.P. and Tina stopped running. J.P. looked around with a concerned look on his face. “Don’t tell me we are lost,” said Tina. “I think, we are lost,” said J.P. “What are we going to do now?” asked Tina. J.P. took out his phone and called the precinct.
“That was J.P., they are lost in the woods,” said Harvey. Everyone in the detective’s office looked at Susie for instructions. Susie was nervous but knowing she was encharge of the Special Investigation Division and her superior officer was depending on her, helped her overcome her fear. “Harvey, you and Dowzer will go into the woods and do a ground search. Rebella, you will go in Chopper 1 and will be doing an air search. I will set up the command post. That's your assignment, let’s roll,” said Susie. Captain Graves was coming into the precinct as everyone was running out the door. He stopped Susie. “What is going on?” asked Captain Graves. “J.P. and Tina are lost in the woods at Jersey City Park. I have ground and air support on the way to look for them and I will be setting up the command post,” said Susie confidently, losing her nervousness of being a leader. “I will call the Jersey City Fire Department and have them respond in case you need additional resources,” said Captain Graves.
J.P. sat down underneath a tree. “This is no time to stop and rest, we need to find a way out of these woods,” said Tina. “What is the first they teach you when you are lost in the woods,” said J.P. Tina thought for a moment. “Stay where you are at when you realize you are lost,” said Tina. She sat down beside J.P.
An hour passed which seemed like an eternity and there was no indication that anyone was on the way. “I wish Harvey was the one encharge instead of Susie. She is probably still trying to figure out what to do,” said Tina. J.P. put his arms around Tina. “Don’t worry, she knows what to do,” said J.P. “I hope you are right,” said Tina with a sigh. Tina laid her head on J.P.’s shoulder and closed her eyes.
J.P. heard something in the distance. “Tina! Tina! Wake up,” said J.P. “What is it?” asked Tina in a semi-confused state from being woken up. “Listen,” said J.P. “That sounds like a helicopter!” said Tina.
Rebella was in the helicopter looking through binoculars. She spotted J.P. and Tina and got on her ht radio. “Command Post this 5-George 32, I have a visual on the missing party,” said Rebella. Susie acknowledged Rebella’s traffic. “Pilot, take us down,” said Rebella. The pilot went as low as he could. “I can’t land,” said the pilot flying past J.P. and Tina. The pilot turned around and kept looking for a spot to land. Rebella thought for a moment. She reached in her backpack and pulled out some rope. “Pilot get as low as you can and hover over them, said Rebella. The pilot turned around and got as low as he could. Rebella opened the door and tossed one end of the rope out. J.P. caught the rope and handed it to Tina. She climbed up the rope and into the helicopter. Rebella lowered the rope again and J.P. climbed up it and got on board. Rebella closed the door. “Command post, this 5-George 32 be advised we have the lost party on board,” said Rebella.
As the helicopter was flying to the command post Rebella noticed a car with Hyena standing beside it. “5-George 32, be advised we have a visual on suspect,” said Rebella. Hyena saw the helicopter. He got in his car and drove off at a high rate of speed. “Pilot, follow that car,” said Rebella. She notified the command post that they were in pursuit of the vehicle.
“Pilot, get us as low as you can and hover over the roof of the car” instructed Rebella. The pilot had a confused look on his face but did what he was told. When he got over the roof of the car Rebella took her seat belt off and opened the door. She jumped on top of the car. Tina unbuckled her seatbelt and leaned over to see the action. “It is amazing how she does that,” said Tina as she watched Rebella break out the back glass and got in the car with the suspect.
Rebella was lying flat in the back seat. She rose up and tapped Hyena on the shoulder. “You are under arrest,” said Rebella. She instructed him to pull the car over. He complied with her instructions and then she instructed him to get out of the car and put his hands behind his back. She handcuffed the suspect and put him in the back seat. “She took out her ht radio. “Command Post this is 5-George 32, I have the suspect in custody. You can release chopper 1 and all personnel,” said Rebella.
The next morning at the 169th Precinct Susie went into the detective’s office. “I am fixing to submit a letter to Captain Graves regarding your job performance yesterday,” said J.P. Susie had a worried look on her face because she was afraid she had done something wrong. J.P. handed her a copy of the letter. “This is your copy,” said J.P. Susie read the letter. “This said that I demonstrated excellence in a leadership position in the field and that you recommend me to be third in command of the Special Investigation Division,” said Susie who was getting excited. “I am very proud of you. You were put in a serious situation and you were able to resolve the situation,” said J.P. “But I was nervous,” said Susie. “Everybody’s going to be nervous. The main thing is never letting being nervous cause you to panic,” said J.P.
Hyena was found guilty on escape and robbery charges. He was sentenced to an additional 35 years in prison.
