Case 31 - The Escape
Born 1983, M, from Atlanta,Texas, United StatesField Commanding officer Rachel McCabe was at her breaking point. She knew it was a race against time to try to locate Kathleen Diamonds and Tiffany Shofner. To make matters worse Mayor Shofner was pressuring her to find Tiffany faster. The stress and aggravation of the situation was more than she could handle. “I give up! Do whatever you want to!” hollered Rachel as she stormed out of the detective office.
Everybody in the detective office was surprised at Rachel’s reaction. “I’ll go talk to her. Susie you are in charge,” said Inspector J.P. Bullet as he walked out of the detective office. “Oscar, you and Harvey go back to the mayor’s office. We are going to see if the kidnappers call back with more demands. Rebella and Conner, I want you to go back to where the exchange was suppose to take place and see if you can find any clues, said Inspector Susie Young.
J.P. and Tina went to the Pizza Ria for lunch. “I need to go wash my hands,” said Tina. “I will get us a table,” said J.P. He was fixing to sit down and noticed Joseph Marion sitting at a table by the window.
Joseph Marion was J.P.’s partner when he started working at the 169th Precinct. Joseph was injured in an automobile accident and had to take a leave of absence. He was able to return to work but they had already hired Rebella Howard to replace him.
Joseph saw J.P. He got up from the table. “J.P. Man!” said Joseph as he kissed J.P. on both cheeks. “Knock that off! What are you, some kind of Frenchman?” said J.P. wiping his face with his arm. Tina came up to where J.P. and Joseph were standing. “Tina Cassidy, it is so good to see you. I remembered when you first started working at the 169th precinct, you annoyed the crap out of Ola by saying 'oh my gosh!' when you were talking to callers,” said Joseph hugging Tina. “Actually, I am now Tina Bullet,” said Tina showing Joseph her wedding band. “You two got married? J.P. you dirty dog,” said Joseph.
Joseph sat down and visited with J.P. and Tina while they ate lunch. Joseph told J.P. and Tina that he was now a detective with the Trenton Police department and was in New York City trying to locate Al De Meola who was Alberto Marquez’s running buddy.
“J.P., could Meola be behind Tiffany and Kathleen’s kidnapping?” asked Tina, as J.P. was driving down the road. J.P. thought for a moment. “You might be onto something,” said J.P. He took out his cell phone and called the precinct and talked to Susie. He asked her to see what she could find out on Meola.
Susie came into the detective office and handed J.P. the information she found on Al De Meola. Rachel was standing behind J.P. looking over his shoulder reading the information along with him. “What do you think?” asked J.P. to Rachel. “He looks like a prime suspect to me,” said Rachel. “We need to try to locate him and even if he is not involved with Tiffany and Kathleen’s abduction we can turn him over to the feds,” said J.P. “Rebella, I want you to go on Chopper One and start an air search. J.P., Tina, Susie and Conner I want you to start a ground search,” said Rachel. They left the detective office and on the way down the hall. J.P. stopped them. “There is something we need to take with us,” said J.P. Everybody looked at each other trying to figure out what it would be. J.P. went into the dispatch office and took a set of keys out of the drawer. He unlocked a door to a room that was beside the radio room. He went in and unlocked a gun cabinet and handed Tina, Susie, and Conner a shotgun.
Kathleen Diamonds and Tiffany Shofner were tied to a chair in a bedroom. They overheard Al De Meola’s plans to ambush City Hall and the Mayor’s Office. “We have to warn them,” said Kathleen trying to get herself free. She kept working until she got herself untied. Then she untied Tiffany. “How do we get out?” asked Tiffany. “Get ready to run,” said Kathleen picking up a chair and throwing it through a window. They escaped through the window and climbed over a fence to safety.
Kathleen and Tiffany had successfully escaped and were running down the street as fast as they could. Neither of the girls knew where they were at. “What do we do now?” asked Tiffany. “We keep walking until we find someone to help us,” said Kathleen.
Kathleen and Tiffany kept walking until they came upon a service station. “I bet they could get us some help,” said Kathleen. They went inside the service station and Kathleen asked the clerk if she could borrow the phone. He handed Kathleen the phone and she called Rebella’s cell phone.
Rebella was in Chopper One looking for Al De Meola when her cell phone started ringing. She took her cell phone and looked at the name and number. “Murray Store 113, that's odd” thought Rebella as she answered her cell phone. “Rebella, we need help,” said Kathleen. “Kathleen stay where you are at,” said Rebella. She called J.P.’s cell phone. “Kathleen is at Murray Store 113,” said Rebella. “I am on my way,” said J.P.
J.P. and Tina arrived at Murray Store 113 where Kathleen and Tiffany were waiting. “They are going to ambush City Hall,” said Kathleen excitedly. “Who?” asked Tina. “The two guys that kidnapped us,” said Kathleen. “Where are they at now?” asked J.P. “I don’t know the address but we can show you,” said Kathleen. They got in the car with J.P. and Tina. When they arrived at the house where the girls had been kept, it was on fire. “I am going call it in,” said Tina. “I’ll call Harvey and warn him that Meola is on the way,” said J.P. After the fire was extinguished the Fire Battalion Officer came up and told J.P. that they had located two bodies in the house.
Joseph Marion was visiting with Ola when J. P., Tina, Kathleen, and Tiffany walked into the 169th Precinct. “I am fixing to be heading back to Trenton, if you are ever that way be sure to look me up,” said Joseph, who was fixing to kiss J.P. on the cheek. “Don’t even think about it,” said J.P. Joseph hugged J.P. instead “I will see you around brother,” said Joseph. Then he went and hugged Tina. “You keep him and ola straight,” said Joseph. “I sure will,” said Tina. “Oh, and when you are manning dispatch be sure to say, oh my gosh!” teased Joseph. Ola turned around in her chair and glared at Joseph over her glasses.
Rebella and Kathleen came into the detective office. “Now that you have graduated, do you have any plans to go to college?” asked Tina to Kathleen. “I want to go to the academy and be a police officer like my big sister,” said Kathleen, hugging Rebella. “But, I will have to wait three years before I am able to attend,” said Kathleen with a sigh. “You could start a career in law enforcement sooner,” said Rachel. “How’s that?” asked Kathleen. “You could apply to be a weekend day shift dispatcher. They are taking applications right now,” said Rachel. “Cool!” said Kathleen. “Just remember one thing, if you apply and get the position,” said Tina. “What’s that?” asked Kathleen. “Never say 'oh my gosh' to a caller,” said Tina. Everyone in the office laughed at what Tina said.
