The Messenger
Born 1974, M, from Rabat, MoroccoPeter was immersed in his usual administrative tasks when one of his colleagues showed up.
" Some news as usual," his colleague said.
"Please, don't. You always bombard me with bad news in the morning," Peter replied in disappointment.
"I think I do well when I bring you some news."
" You don't, you just make me feel low. Always bad news!"
"It is you who classifies the news as bad."
"Can't you make the difference between bad and good?"
"Why should I make such an effort?"
" To save me the trouble of receiving your bad news!"
" I am not an analyst. I am a messenger. Carry and convey, that's all."
"Thank you for the effort."
"I am at your service, sir."
"But I found the whole effort pointless since there is some media outlet that does the job well."
" I do accomplish the final step of their task."
"To be honest, I got fed up with your news. Stop, please."
"I can't. It is beyond my control. Have you ever heard of news that stopped spreading among people? Never happened before!"
" look for someone else who is interested in your news."
"I didn't find anyone like you. You are a good listener. you are positive and serious, too."
" So do you want to punish me for being kind to you or do you enjoy spoiling my positivity?
"You always misunderstand me. I am showing my deep gratitude by doing this favour."
Peter asked to be transferred to another department to get rid of his colleague. Unfortunately, he found some other person doing the same assignment there.

11/27/2023Wow Aziz, well deserved story of the day. From the title " the messenger " I would never have guessed that it would have been about a gossiping person, here I was thinking its religion based until going through only to find out its one the general issue nicely depicted. Well narrated!!.

11/27/2023Nicely written and a good point. Many people have their own agenda and it doesn't always include kindness. The three-point test before speaking: 1) It is true/factual? 2) Does it need to be said? 3) Will others be hurt by my comments? A good filter for our brain before we open our mouth! Thank you for story ~

11/27/2023A truth in this story. Many people can't refrain from spreading bad news, gossip or negative reports. The ending is also very truthful. Congratulations on Short Story Star of the Day!

11/26/2023Bad News is always more 'NEWS worthy' than good news, apparently, which is why there are so many who like to 'share' it, unfortunately.... Happy short story star of the day, Aziz.

11/25/2023He would never find a safe place in the world from such people as some of them were born to do that by nature. The best solution is to ignore them and never let any news to effect our positivity.
